Roster management watch

Two down, four to go.

These departures leave USC unofficially with 89 scholarship players on the roster for 2012 including the incoming freshman class.

Maybe somebody in the media can get a clever quip from Spurrier about that.

A few more DUIs or Disorderly Conducts and Spurrier would’ve probably been inclined to keep ’em around a bit longer.

if I was a Gamechicken with low grades who was buried on the depth chart, I’d start packing now.

    Unless it’s for Appalachian State.

Maybe someone will key a professor’s car and get kicked off the tea….
Oops, that doesn’t even get starters kicked off over there. Suspended, sure, but we wouldn’t want to actually not allow a football player to play just for threateningly destroying a Faculty member’s property.

In all seriousness, that is the most disturbing aspect of the Garcia fiasco. I can’t believe he was allowed to remain a student within the University of South Carolina University system, much less still at USC, and still the highest profile athlete there.

I always thought it was the night he got arrested for underage drinking (he was out in front of his dorm with a cooler, so he wasn’t even trying to hide it), then a couple of hours later he pulled the fire alarm in his dorm and got busted for that too. Neither of those offenses, taken alone, or even on different occasions, were serious at all. The fact he did them both in the same night that tells you all you need to know about Garcia.

Notwithstanding that, Steven was never afraid to undertake a mission:

“Upon entering Garcia’s hotel room, they are said to have discovered the quarterback in a highly-intoxicated state in the company of five different young women – two of whom were completely naked.”

We suspend them at UGA, meanwhile at SC they seem to just fade away.

In other news, we’re down to 73 (or 77 if you want to count the former walk-ons).

This is the first year I have ever been glad to have “self imposed probation.” The ships we have open and the talent we will pull in this year will give us the foundation for SEC championships for several years to come. We will have a class of 30-33 this year and turn away some very good talent in the process.

Maybe the USC atheletic dept. hired a GT grad to keep up with their numbers. Reggie. He was only off by 1 when he threw that ball out of bounds.

    • Neat little accounting trick. They only count the total number of scholarships at the start of summer practice. That way you can have as many as you want from signing day until the players report for summer. Gives you all of spring and summer for players to be dismissed for things they do or decide that it is in their best interest to leave the program.
