Aaron Murray, Georgia: Entering his junior season, Murray has thrown for more than 3,000 yards in each of his first two seasons. He also has 59 touchdown passes to his credit. If he hits the 3,000-yard mark again in 2012, he would become the first SEC player in history to throw for 3,000 yards in three consecutive seasons. Peyton Manning didn’t do that, and neither did Danny Wuerffel, Eli Manning, David Greene or Couch.
So what do you think? “Something else to pin on Bobo”? “Mason would have done it, too”? “Yeah, but how much of that was against ranked teams”?

I’m glad you take on the Bobo haters, because I see so much of it, and hear it from my friends so often that you’d think everyone in Bulldawg nation agrees with the sentiment that Mike Bobo is just a terrible offensive coordinator. He may not be God’s Gift to OC’ing, but the guy’s pretty solid in a lot of ways.

I agree Will. What we have is a good O-Coordinator who also happens to be a DGD born and bred. Which counts a lot in my book. It doesn’t hurt that I actually like PA offenses. What we lack is a good running game which would set the O up a lot better and hoping the stable of RBs UGA has this year will do just that.

What we lack is a good O-line to set up a good running game. We actually have had decent backs (some didn’t work out for personal reasons). If we can just get a little improvement in the O-line……

True woods, but Murray does not play in a wide open passing offense. He plays in an offense that would have looked normal in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and the 00’s.

He did though…clearly Murray is only this good because Mason is on the sideline coaching him up. Really Bobo gave QB coach responsibility over to Mason. Thats why they are going to let him redshirt this year, so we can get another free year outta him before we start paying him and fire someone else. How sweet is it having an extra coach? These guys are brilliant and have completely beat the system. I hear that Grantham gave over DC to Jarvis after the first 2 losses too.

It finally hit me! I know what Murray is. Murray is that PGA Tour player who is 12 strokes back heading out early Sunday morning. He throw up tons of birdies with his 9:00am tee time. But when he is in the hunt he posts a Sergio- like 76 and throws up on himself. That is AM.

Your earlier comment usinf the word “hollow” seems much more appropriate for a SD post to me. And never, never compare a DGD like Murray to the whiny, sniffling baby that Garcia has become. It is not usually acceptable to pull against golfers, but I do love very much to watch him make a quad and miss cuts. Pompous A-H who follows in his hero Seve’s wake.
Whether people judge AM fairly, or wish we had (fill in a name here), the guy is a warrior and loves the R&B. Might be what your issue is with him. He hasn’t been dealt the strongest hand with RBs, nor OL, but he has achieved a lot and allows gives his all. Like everyone else, I would love to see fewer turnovers….but then, I cannot think of a single QB for UGA (or any other team I want to win) that I couldn’t say that about.

That’s funny, you two still remember that loser? Have to admit he didn’t make that big of an impression on me to think his “legacy” would survive several months. The only thing I will remember about Stephen is he made a fool out of Spurrier who sold his soul for the fool and got nothing to show for it. It was when I realized Steve had lost the “it” he once had. I think the decline steepens for him now. Even the better Gamecock fans were embarrassed for SG being let back on the team, players cannot respect a coach after that.

This has to be the stupidest thing I’ve read this month. And it’s about golf, which makes it even worse.
Now I don’t follow golf, but does it count against a golfer when the ball goes into the hole, but inexplicably pops back out? (Numerous drops, see SECCG) Howabout when his playing partner kicks his drive into a fairway sand trap? (Special teams nightmares)
I could go on, but golf analogies aren’t my thing. And football apparently isn;t yours.

I like Murray, but I have trouble blaming any problem he’s had on his receivers. There have been some bad drops, yes. But he also randomly misses wide open, easy passes. Happened a few times against Florida last year. Hopefully that goes away (and so do the occasional drops by his receivers).
If Murray stops randomly missing easy throws and cuts down on the turnovers (fumbles and INTs both), he may very well have a Heisman season. Can’t wait. Hope we can protect him this year.

Not like Murray played one year with 2 backs that were only able to play in the same game 3-4 times due to suspensions/injuries. Or that he played with a true freshman starting RB because the 2 backs mentioned before flunked out and quit due to having to work to be #1. (This is not a hate on Crowell post…more of a hate on the RBs who dicked us last year by failing and quitting.)

Last night I watched a replay of the 2009 Auburn-UGA game. Those 2 RBs ran all over the War Tigers. Frankly, I wish we had them last season when Crowell got injured. Might have beaten LSU and MSU if we had.

I think comparisons to annual total stats from the period before 2002 when a 12th game was added and bowl stats were counted are going to be a little flawed. Not taking anything away from Murray and Bobo, who have done a lot to be proud of the last two years, but they’ve got 2 extra games to work with.

Aaron’s problem isn’t that he doesn’t score touchdowns, it’s that a lot of those touchdowns are for the other team.
In my humble novice opinion the guy could throw for fewer yards and touchdowns and still win 12+ games if he just cut down on the turnovers. Keep the interceptions under 10, stop fumbling so much, and the guy will put us in position to win a championship.
And while I’m playing armchair quarterback let me also throw in don’t let your mechanics break down under pressure and don’t try and win the game all by yourself. That’s usually when Murray does what Bobo and Richt refer to as “turning a bad play into a catastrophe”.
All that being said the guy has the potential to kick some serious ass this year, even if people hell bent on bashing the guy can’t see that. (lookin’ at you skeptic)

You just gave us the Aaron “Sergio Garcia” Murray that I described. The pick 6’s. The fumbles. The break down in mechanics. See how it all adds up. I really want the kid to do well. I want him to thrive. However, for reasons unknown the kid falls apart in tough situations. That is not a surprise to anyone, you even said as much. So until he proves me wrong, I will refer to #11 as Sergio.

Murray only has 2 weaknesses: He takes too many sacks, and he has cold streaks where his throwing is not accurate.

Good question. The Hudson Mason crowd is made up of the people who always think the back up is better, but Metz actually has a ton of talent. It’ll be interesting to see what he does for LSU this year.

From what I read/heard before Mett was kicked off the team is that he had the bigger arm but was slower than molasses in the pocket. My guess is that he probably would have taken a lot more sacks (you have to admit that Murray gets out of trouble with his feet sometimes) and probably thrown as many picks overly relying on his cannon arm. If we can protect Murray and have a decent running game I think you will see those INT’s and TO’s cut down tremendously.

Am hoping he ups his runs driven in when less than 2 runs behind or ahead.
Up and down the field but the cold streaks and (even inUF game 0 fer 9 at one point i believe) the propensity to disappear along with the rest of the offense.
Get rid of the vanishing act and the turnovers and we will be a pack o’ dogs tearing up some roosters, cats, reptiles, and loose tusked pachyderms.
