Things are looking up for the McGarity Master Plan:  Georgia is no longer hawking 2012 season tickets.

    I thought our schedule was bad.

    I just looked at your schedule for the first time. You guys essentially have two good home games (UT, GT) and, other than the rivalry, neither of those teams have been big draws for a few years now.

    I can’t imagine paying for season tickets for that.

      I am looking forward to the Vandy game. That’s going to be a lot of fun. I see another State of Tennessee Football Championship for the Dawgs this year.

        I think Vandy will be fun for the more-than-casual fan, but I don’t expect the players to have the same emotional perspective as some fans.

    the slate of games this year is fine. Vandy, UT, GaTech are solid games…Ga Southern will be fun. Buffalo, you got to get the season started with a cupcake…and that only leaves FAU..might be nice to get someone a little higher up the food chain, but it’s fine.

    tailgating will still be a blast regardless of who the other team is, if the games are at noon I get to eat dinner in athens….

        What is that amazing about being happy about attending UGA games…

        Note to GTP fans..if your tailgating experience has diminished to the point of you not enjoying your trips to athens, stop by our tailgate. Cold beer, loud music, pretty girls, and the best BBQ you are going to find in athens.

        Oh and I left out Ole Miss…even better schedule.

        Remember Macon, this poster not only wants to play 12 cupcake games if it makes a voter place the Dawgs on top of the ratings, I believe he would take a group of felons and put a gun to their head to make them vote that way. He is truly a “the end justifies the means” guy who would sell his soul for a piece of glass. From reading his comments, nothing is too drastic for this guy: lousy noon games against Division 3 teams, overlooking any type of illegal behavior, cheating on tests…..nothing. Just win baby!

        He isn’t the typical dawg phan, but there is a small minority who feel this way. I suspect most grew up in the ESPN era. I think the comments regarding tailgating and the Athens experience overlooks the paying customer who makes that special, and they are being given less for their dollar. How long does that last? And what is the logic for defending the consumer getting less? I don’t know another consumer group that says “please give me less and charge me more, I love being hosed”.

          Come on, Mac. That was a completely unfair twisting of the man’s words. Nowhere in his comment does he mention or imply anything related to the difficulty of the schedule or it’s impact on the Dawgs win/loss record. His point is that any excuse to go to Athens is a good one. There’s no where he, I, or you would rather be than in Athens on gameday, regardless of the opponent. I tend to agree with you that I’d rather have a stronger schedule, but I also see his point.

            oh and I would love to play LSU > BAMA > Atl Falcons > Green Bay Packers > 85 Bears > that 90’s Nebraska team , the Miami Hurricanes All-Time rooster for NCAA 2010, Auburn, Tech, Tech, Auburn

            but they dont let me pick the schedule…actually for the last couple of years they havent even bothered to ask for my input. So I take what I can get, I enjoy the hell out of it, and lament all the things I would have done differently when the season is over.

            Puff, the opening statement (“the slate of this year’s games is fine”, etc.) is a continuation of other comments from him that playing a strong schedule is not something he is in favor of. That was the basis of my comment. Certainly being on campus tailgating in late October/early November in the cool, fall air is something we all lust for. It would be much more thrilling if an exciting game was looming….even if there were risk to losing it.

            I understand there are fans who prefer that, but I will always scoff at them, or fans of other programs who want an entitlement trophy. Just a different perspective….and nothing I feel about the integrity of behavior changes either, although it is a reference to a recent discussion about disciplining athletes not covered in this thread. The common theme is “whatever it takes, I will bend over” so I do feel the observation is both valid and relevant. But you will never see me on the other side of the gameday experience, or what it could be. We all fantasize about those
            days. One of my earliest was actually Old Miss….but they had Archie Manning at QB that day. You need a couple of those big home games against quality opponents per year, sometimes three, imo

              Mac, the SEC schedule is set by the SEC office. Can anybody help it if some of the teams in the SEC are not as good as they once were? Ole Miss used to be good but now they aren’t. Whose fault is that? McGarity’s? The OOC schedule is a different issue and one which somebody could legitimately complain about, but even then like it or not GT is an instate rival and nobody is going to change that, so we only have 3 OOC games to work with annually. One cupcake is dropping off next year and Clemson is coming on the schedule. Relax and quit being such a curmudgeon.

                The Clemson series is only for 2 years. Then it’s back to 3 cupcakes and a cloud of dust. This schedule structure is the stated preference of our AD for most years (he wants to schedule a 2 year series like Clemson or Ohio State every 8-10 years).

                And if our mandatory OOC game was a really big program, I’d have no problem scheduling 3 cupcakes. But it’s freaking Georgia Tech. They average out to be a middle tier ACC program.

                Also, McGarity has gone on record saying he doesn’t want an extra conference game, so I wouldn’t be so quick to give him a free pass on the conference schedule. He needs to either push for an extra conference game or schedule a quality OOC game. What we’re getting this year and will be getting most years going forward is pure crap.

                  First law of economics: If you don’t like the product don’t but it. If enough people feel the same way and stop buying tickets then the UGA President and AD will have to put forward a better product. It really is that simple.

                Fully aware of who sets the schedule (save that bit of wisdom for the SC fans) but having a 9th conference game helps insure fans will have a better game than the boring collection of teams McGarity plans to bring into Sanford in coming years. It is because of the ups and downs in program strengths in various cycles that having a stronger OOC schedule and an extra SEC game should be McGarity’s position…if he really cared what the fans think.

                As you said, if you don’t like it, don’t buy the ticket….I don’t. I think selectively picking the games you want to see is the better plan for me. I have enjoyed it more this way but appreciate those who feel differently. Even you should be saying “thank God for JAX this year” because it is the most attractive game/venue on the 2012 schedule.

    I don’t know what I’m missing here, but they’re still hawking them. The only difference is they’re now hawking them to Hartman Fund donors AND the general public. I got an email this morning asking me to buy extra singles.

    I honestly can’t believe people actually bought these things at full face value. I’m a season ticket holder and love to go to Athens for games as much as just about anything, but there’s no way I could bring myself to pay $280 to watch those seven games from the 600 section. I really can’t imagine the experience is the same from those seats, which are practically in the North GA mountains.

    I’ll just say this – I had the chance for the first time to buy season tickets this year (even before all the extended deadlines). And I couldn’t bring myself to shell out the $560 for that schedule compared to what I know I can scalp it for. However, that doesn’t mean the UGA police won’t be harassing my tailgate at 645 for early setup on Saturdays this fall.

    Now if we can just get someone to share cut-off scores for the Missouri and other road games. Seems that in the past we’ve had some idea of where those numbers might end up by early July. I’m worried Missouri may end up like Colorado and we get shocked with a much higher cut-off than was the case for Arizona State and Okie State.

    I let mine go as well. Had em since 82′. I ‘ll be scalping from here on out. Just could not bring myself to pay the $$ for that schedule and not knowing if we would enough guys to dress.

    The schedule is awful. Buffalo and Florida Atlantic, in the bottom 100 of ranked football programs this year. Wont even go. And half of those who do will leave 5 minutes into the third quarter. I’m ok with Southern every once and a while, but McGarity ought to be embarrassed. If we’re gonna play pasties, at least play patsies where I know someone who went to that school … Furman, Tulane, Duke. When strength of schedule matters, this sh!t ain’t gonna fly. And it should fly now with us season ticket holders.
