SEC, you’ve been warned.

James Franklin, at the unveiling of Vanderbilt’s spiffy new unis – at a Barnes and Noble! – took the occasion to throw down a warning to the rest of the conference.

“You guys saw last year, we’re not gonna take a backseat to anybody.  You come into Vanderbilt Stadium you better be ready for a fight…  Change is happening.  The culture has been changed.”

If by “fight”, he means having to deal with a mouthy head coach after things don’t go his way on the field, consider us served.

What a toolbag. If there’s an upside, though, I don’t remember looking forward to the Vanderbilt game this much in a long time.

Yes. This. Before, beating them always felt like so unsatisfying. They are perennial bottom feeders, after all. But now they are perinnial bottom feeders with a mouthy shithead for a coach, and beating them will be a lot more fun.

Hey, does Tech know Vandy ripped off some uni designs from them? Hideous…

James Franklin is like that drunk uncle that would show up to family gatherings. He goes on and on about how he’s the man until grandpa backhands him across the face.

Actually, that B&N is their bookstore. I guess they just do things differently at Vandy.

Oh, how I would love to see Josh Dawson sack Jordan Rogers — the crowd would go nuts! “It ain’t braggin’ if you can do it” (Dizzy Dean), but Vanderbilt can’t do it. I think Derek Dooley’s quote says it all. And, I think Gravidy hit the nail on the head — it’ll actually be fun to “beat the shit out of Vanderbilt” this year. Can’t wait. Go Dawgs!!!

hey now. Duke won an ACC title under SOS, didnt they? I mean, it IS the pre FSU ACC, but it’s still one more conference title than the Dores have. Or will ever have.

as for the new culture in Nashville, all I can say to Coach Franklin is the same thing I’ve said to the nerds at Tech the last 3 years: Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

It is hard for me to hear anything Franklin says because I’m trying to figure out how a Vandy can beat UGA on a regular basis in two of the men’s big three. The men’s baseball team and the men’s basketball team records against Vandy the past few years is shameful. And last year in Nashville pointed out again how the Dawgs struggle there. S&C and game coaching were never more on display than that 4th quarter. What Franklin is saying we may not have your budget, facilities, and fans, but we can damn sure play with you. The answer. Some people in Athens need to get it going.
Erk Russell made every SEC team coming into Athens feel the pain and the dread. Does not happen anymore.
Uniforms. At least we are not going through that damn crap we did against Boise and the Dome. Embarrassing and shameful.

Why do you insist on bringing up baseball all of the time? This is a football blog. Please consider your cohorts.

I’ve seen several basketball references here and comments on other sports, too. Baseball is the 3rd biggest sport in college. At least he didn’t talk about how South Carolina won the College World Series twice in a row and was runner-up this year but how UGA won the College World Series several years ago and then went in the tank thereafter. Will’s comment was only a passing reference and a perfectly legit comment as part of a longer post.

We made a lot of errors. “Georgia had another dreadful performance on special teams. In addition to the blocked punt, the Bulldogs missed two field goals, allowed a 96 yard kick return touchdown, and once again fell victim to a fake punt that set up another Vanderbilt score. If not for the Commodores’ four turnovers, the Bulldogs would have likely been in a world of trouble.”
IC -10 carries and 35 yards. Vandy ran for 200 yards on a D that held UT/UF/UA to 51 yards rushing. They had Florida on the ropes and came within a fumble at the goal line of beating the Hogs. “Dores played over their heads all season and Dawgs, Gators and Hogs played flat against them.

Thanks for saying it. The Dawgs were a shoestring tackle (from the punter) away from losing to Vandy. It is a little silly and a lot sad that Vandy is now a rivilary game. The Dawgs are at an all-time high!

Whoa…. did I just get “shanghaied”?
Per the ‘Dores: somewhere out there is a Skeptic Gator, Skeptic Hog and Skeptic Vol. All those teams struggled against Vandy. Hogs were in the top 5 at one time. Tough to get up for every game I guess.

Not sayin’ this is fact. But if one were to believe in recent trends, Vandy beats the Dawgs this year. Go back and look it up. 2006 = Loss. 2009 = Loss. 2012 = ?. Richt ain’t scared to lose to Vandy. Just say’.

    • Apparently you didn’t get the sockpuppetry warning about repeating tired and boring arguments?

We get it, you’re disappointed in the big 3 men’s sports. Actually, we totally understood it the last 594 times you brought it up at this blog.

While Will certainly does not need anyone to put words in his mouth, least of all me, I think I understand his point. And so should everyone else. He is (like everyone here) extremely passionate about all things Red & Black, yet extremely disappointed in the product recently displayed on the diamond, court and gridiron. He is merely asking fans, the athletic department and coaches to step it up. It is time that everyone demand excellence (if not merely competitve squads) for the big 3. I believe Will is calling all to action. I may be wrong here, and if so I apologize to Will. I believe the guy has been on to something many of us (myself included) have been ignoring for sometime now. While I am sure he does not agree with many of my opinions regarding our football program (read Mark Richt), I do agree with him. Keep bangin’ that drum man! One day people will be able to hear the music. Hopefully before it is too late.

Wait a minute. You’re saying we’ve won five in a row against them in football, but we lost in BASEBALL??!??!!1!?

I’m outraged. If we can’t win every game in every sport, then I have no interest in calling myself a fan.

Did our women’s golf team at least beat them? PLEASE SAY THEY DID!!!
