Fire up the telly

… the SEC has released its early season broadcast schedule.

No prime time for Georgia:  Buffalo kicks off at 12:21;  Missouri is the ESPN2 7:45 game; and (somewhat surprisingly) FAU starts at 7:30.  I guess the bright side to that if you’re a Georgia fan is that you won’t fry too much in the summer sun.

Florida has a 3:30 slot, but it’s not against Tennessee.  It’s against TAMU the week before.   For the first time, CBS passed on the meteor game, electing to grab Alabama-Arkansas instead.  Another tradition sacrificed for scheduling’s sake.

the hits keep coming. 7:30 for FAU is going to be a lot of fun. I will be in Winder @ bbq contest for the Mizzou game and should be able to get home before the game starts..nice.

I think it was scrificed due to the meteor game now being a mediocre game!

    • ‘Bama-Arky was moved because of scheduling. UF-UT used to be the primary show that week.

I think I would lay the blame for this on UT for sucking eggs the last few years rather than the TV networks.

On another note regarding UT, I heard the other day that they have only sold around 60K tickets for their homes games and are having to package Bama and Florida tickets in with other games in 3 game packages in an effort to sell more tickets. My how the mighty have fallen.

I’m not really throwing any stones from our glass ticket sales house. It’s getting harder for many schools to sell tickets. In Georgia’s case, the cupcake scheduling isn’t helping. I’d imagine that Tennessee offering up several cupcakes on the slate to go along with their shoddy record the last several years isn’t really exciting many people about plopping down their money when they’re sure they can scalp before the game for a fraction of the cost.

Tennessee sold the three-game mini-packs in 2010 as well. They can at least force the opposing fans to purchase three tickets if they want to secure a guaranteed seat ahead of time.

I wonder who gave them that strategy? ;-)

7:30 for the FAU game is definitely nice. Maybe they listened to the fans for once?

Maybe. Then again, our game is the only game in week 1 that is kicking off in the early afternoon.

Think Game 1 is the SEC Network game … Also a school can only PPV one game / year that is in conflict with a network TV game.

And the ticket manager … there are still seats avail for that game & this def makes it more marketable.

FTR – I consider a 7:45 kickoff on ESPN2 for the Georgia @ Mizzou to be “prime time” even if the networks don’t. A lot more eyes will be watching then than would be were it at 12:30 on the same network.

Also, Mizzou is Central, so that’s actually 6:45 local time for the game. That’s definitely prime time for us dawg exiles in Texas.

Exactly. All but the first 15 minutes of the telecast are in prime time. When you consider the toe will meet leather at about 7:50, the overwhelming majority of the game is in prime time.

Agree with Hobnailed, it doesn’t matter which station number it is, fans will watch the better game, or the one they have an interest in. I don’t think many cable or satellite services have ESPN without The Deuce any longer so same number of households, plus all bars will have available games on their screens.. Time slot and availability is the key, so that is Primetime to me as well.

I will be in the stands for the home games but watching Missouri on the telly. I probably need to find out where the DAWG radio station is so I can mute the sound.

I am OK with the time for the Florida/Tennessee game. I got tired of baking in the Tennessee sun every other year.
