On another note, the canceled Georgia-Ohio State series may not be dead yet.
The reason for canceling it had been that Ohio State didn’t have room on its future schedules because of the planned scheduling agreement between the Pac-12 and Big Ten. But that was canceled last week.
McGarity said he planned to place a call to Ohio State to renew talks.
“I may call them on the way home,” McGarity said.
To be perfectly honest, I’m surprised he hasn’t done that already. In any event, I hope it leads to something good.

A home-and-home with Ohio St would be amazing. I was already getting anxious for that and it was still 9 years away when I first saw it. It would have a ‘major bowl / national championship’ type of buzz, to kick off the season. I would love to see the Dawgs invade the Buckeye’s home turf almost as much as I would love sitting in Sanford Stadium watching Georgia host Ohio St.

Yeah, it would be great. I suspect the B1G is going to a 9 game conference schedule and the SEC will probably follow suit. I would love it to happen, but I think no one will make a move until this whole SOS is clarified. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it will happen.

I said when it as announced that it was all for show and it would never happen. Still feel that way. It is completely off strategy for McGarity.
We are about 20 times more likely to move to a nine game SEC schedule than to add OSU. And if we do go to 9 we dang sure aren’t playing them.

Perhaps Greg should worry less about the 2020 schedule and more about beefing up the 2013 and 2014 schedules, since strength of schedule would seem to be a factor once again once we start dealing with a playoff selection committee?

2013 and 2014 won’t be a problem. We play Clemson and GT in addition to what will be a tougher SEC West rotation. It’ll be a very difficult schedule.

I’m all for it. If we schedule home and homes, I think they need to be blockbuster games or rivalry games like Clemson. We had little to gain by playing Colorado, Arizona State, and Oklahoma State.
I still believe that playing huge out of conference games is a good thing for the program and not a roadblock to success. At various times in the past, it has worked very well for Notre Dame, Alabama, Penn State, Miami, Florida State, and USC. And it’s working very well for LSU right now.

Play ’em at a neutral site as a season opener. Georgia Dome would be ideal but I would be fine with Nashville (Titans Stadium) which would be more of a true neutral site and still be a reasonably drivable for fans of both teams.

Yes, and Oregon would have been great too. I really hope IF the osu series gets done it is home and home, not a neutral field. The real fun is going to the other school’s home field and experiencing the way they do Saturdays. Can’t get enough of that.

it’s not a bad idea in the abstract, but why would either UGA or Slowhio State want to play that game in middle Tennessee? It isnt a fertile recruiting ground for anyone, much less either of them. It’s not overly convenient for either fan base, and it’s not like there are any magical things to see in Nashville, especially for UGA fans who already go there every other year to see the Vandy game.
The only thing is really has to recommend itself is that it’s not a UGA hotbed, from the OSU standpoint. From the UGA standpoint, it has zilch to offer, seems to me.

This is so out of character for McGarity that I feel he is just “exploring” this to quell the negative feedback from fans who realize they are spending a lot of money for 1-2 decent home games a year, and this year it falls short of that. I never thought the original tosu series would be played, and I doubt this one ever comes off either. Who knows where CFB will be by 2020? Hopefully with four 16 team conferences and play limited to the 64 teams in those conferences. That is all that will insure better games, and a true NC.

Surely by 2020 little Timmy will be out of a job – the Urb can bring him on as an asst lb coach or whatever, and we can beat the both of them again as we endzone dance at the horseshoe! Sounds great to me!

It’s not out of character for Mcgarity at all, he’ll just be smarter. We’ll need to see how he rotation falls so we can schedule it when we play ole miss or miss ST from the west. Damon had us scheduled to play Clemson in 2014, when we were supposed to have bama and lsu on the schedule.
Mcgarity has never said he’s against those games. We just don’t need one every year.

OSU and Michigan losing PSU as a competitor would be akin to us losing Florida and benefitting from all those players and recruits. I’ll pass on playing them any time soon.
