UPDATE: Here’s a gem from the underlying story to Dyer’s dismissal.
According to a Jonesboro Sun report written by Matt Roberson (subscription required), the dismissal is likely related to a March traffic stop in White County. Dyer was pulled over by an Arkansas State Trooper who found marijuana and a gun in his vehicle. Video of the traffic stop was obtained by The Sun through a Freedom of Information Act filed by the Searcy Daily Citizen.
It is unclear who was in possession of the gun and marijuana, per the newspaper’s report. Trooper Royce Denney issued Dyer a speeding ticket and no charges were filed stemming from the discovery of the handgun or drugs. Per The Sun Denney is currently under investigation for his handling of the stop.
The Sun has details of conversations between Dyer and Denney caught on the officer’s in-car video camera. (It’s worth the $.99 one-day subscription fee.)
“You’ve got a career ahead of you, but you’re being a total dumb ass right now,” Denney apparently says to Dyer during the stop.

So at least now we have video evidence of State troopers in other states handle star football players…In athens, He would have been charged with multiple felonies and taken to jail on the spot. Not a life lesson and a speeding ticket.

Exactly–apparently the police everywhere but Athens are allowed to use restraint and common sense.
I think there should be a limit though. Isn’t it just a little strange that no football player ever breaks the law in Tuscaloosa, even though they all come from the same pool of hooligans?

Well, you can bet that Dyer won’t make the same mistake twice as far as transferring to another 1-A program. Looks like his only real “punishment” is going to be finding a spot in a cushy 1-AA town for about six months with immediate playing time and then it’s on to the bright lights of the NFL! Instead of being stuck in Arkansas for two years, he’s free and clear after December.
Of course, the NFL’s going to have to take a long, hard look at the character issues involved … but come on, that’s never really stopped them before.

The State Boys got their wings clipped when they put cameras in the cars. Back in the day, they got more sex than anybody I knew. Women just loved that uniform so much until they would go 100 mph just so they’d get stopped by one them boys. I bet about 20% of the force retired the day they put the cameras in. So, it’s not like they don’t want to play around, it’s that they can’t play around.
And yea, I’ve heard that back in the good ole days they used to let Jake Scott among others slide a good bit in every corner of the state.

Welcome to the future. Giving it away for free on the internet has been causing newspapers to hemorrhage money for years. The smaller ones can’t make it work anymore. It’ll be interesting to see if people will be willing to start paying for what they’ve gotten for free for the past 15 years.

That used to be the case until recently in Georgia. The legislature recently passed a law that was signed by Governor Deal that requires law enforcement agencies to return all firearms to an “innocent owner” if possible after the completion of a case, and if not, to a gun retailer instead of destroying the weapon. “Innocent owner” means that if the perpetrator of the crime was not the owner of the weapon and the rightful owner of the weapon had no knowledge the gun would be used in a crime, that gun must be returned to the owner. At least, that’s my understanding of the new law.
