Wisconsin’s AD has a suggestion that should dismay every Georgia fan.
Wisconsin Athletics Director Barry Alvarez threw out Herbstreit’s name as a committee member.
“If I wasn’t doing what I was doing, I’d love to be chairman of that group,” Herbstreit said. “If there’s a way to do it and it’s not a conflict of interest, I would love to do it because I love the sport. I don’t claim to necessarily have all the answers or that I’m right. But at least I watch and I’m educated. I’m not just watching a highlight. When you’re engaged, it makes it very easy to have an educated opinion.”
And when you’re a former Ohio State quarterback, it makes it very easy to have a bias or two.
No wonder ol’ Herbie thinks it would be a good idea to keep the committee’s votes private.
And while we’re on the subject of keeping things private, how about Bill Hancock’s Joe Biden moment?
“The concept has been that each conference can decide what to do with its revenue,” Hancock said. “It’s sort of like states rights. The state of Alabama decides how it wants to manage itself.”
Ah, yes, states rights and Alabama managing itself. What could go wrong with that choice of words?

Kirk Herbstreit spoke of a conflict of interest. I’d be hard pressed to come up with a selection committee candidate who’s free from some degree of conflict. Herbstreit simply broadcast his bias on national TV.
The Alabama states rights thing is nice irony on 2 levels, the George Wallace and the Nick Saban levels.

Except for 2006/2007 when Herbstreit totally embarrassed himself, he has been pretty balanced in his comments and analysis of teams on a national basis. That is pretty commendable given where he grew up, and played. As mentioned above, where do you find someone who is without any bias, or that wouldn’t be criticized for their vote? At least Herbie gets to see all the top teams play in big games and has access to the coaches/practices. Since Erin Andrews will not be traveling with him this year, he should be more alert and focused on football.

Anything that is judged has some bias to it correct? Just like the polls? Just like some Olympic sports? Perhaps some fouls called in basketball or penalties in football? It’s human nature and while I understand the concern, its a non-argument to me. What are we going to do? In hopes of the probes sent to Mars to find life, ask them to decide?

Then there was the States Rights Party with Curtis LeMay as VP. He wanted everyone to get bombed back to the stone age. He was one helluva partier.
