“In fact, I wouldn’t be shocked if Dooley were named SEC coach of the year at the end of the season.”
I swear to God, I kept waiting for the punchline to drop in this John Adams piece about SOD. Only it never did.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

After the 2010 season and starting with two losses in ’11 one would have thought CMR would have had some COY love for winning the East!

The author obviously didn’t feel that Richt could improve on 10 wins. He went out of the way to not mention him. We should remember those nonthoughts when it comes time to laying the wood to their butts this year.

Well, he does have a lot of room for improvement, so he’s got that going for him.

“And even an 8-5 season would be a significant step forward.
Then, Dooley wouldn’t be known as the SEC coach with consecutive losing seasons. He would be regarded as the coach who had taken a once-prominent program at its lowest ebb and restored it to respectability.”
Given UT’s schedule, would 8-5 REALLY make anybody respect the job Dooley has done there any more? I know it wouldn’t impress me any.

I figure with Ga. State, Akron & Troy and the looks of the SEC slate SOD gets them to 7-5, at best. But I keep feeling like this is a dead even 6-6 team he has there, which will probably show him the door, through which UT can then welcome Sonny Dykes from La. Tech.

4 million buy out. Hmmm. He goes 7-5 he stays. If the juco kid is all that… they can get there. I think he lasts until his buyout gets to 2.5. Unless the Hillbillies get those stills stoked up again and generate some additional tax free coin of course. If SOD was all they could come up with post the mattress burning fiesta does another HC coach get the desire to dress in orange pants? I don’t think so. How hard was it to find a coach willing to step in after Papa Dooley? And the Classic City Canines were in much better shape than the Hounds of Knoxvegas are today. Vols “are in a tight spot”. Was SOD really HC material? Did Hammy think he was gonna catch lightening in a bottle when hiring young Dooley? Personally, I believe SOD’s HC crown is gonna get “tighter than Dicks hatband.” And although she would like to Babs can do little to change that.

Babs does not have time for this in a tight spot shit. She is a job creator and she did build that. If you keep up with this daily harrassment and interdiction incoming fire against Orange Pants, Babs is going to jerk a knot in your tail so hard that’ll you be writing like John Adams and singing Sweet Home Tennessee before you know it

Dooley goes 6-6, get fired and the next HC in KnoxVegas will be……Bobby Petrino. Take it to the bank.

I think your right but too soon. Dooley gets outta jail with a 7-5. 2013 will bury him.

On a related note, the ESPN guys are all going ga-ga over Florida, despite the fact that they’re clearly going to stink at QB again this year. The Big Man on Campus feature had the Gators as the nation’s ninth-best team.
Guess they’ve gotta ramp up interest in viewers somehow.

Good point. Plus the Gators also have a Sideshow Bob as a head ball coach to bring extra-added entertainment value to the product brand. Until last season, explosive temper disorder had been a missing ingredient from the league since Bo Pelini transferred from LSU to Nebraska.

Not to mention his winning percentage on picking and guaranteeing games to 11yr-old girls.

When evaluating Tennessee, you have to consider the state of the their program when Dooley took over. Recall that, then think ‘worse’.
As I’ve said all year, IMO Tennessee is the most dangerous team in the League, and the most underrated. And Florida isn’t too fat behind them.

The most dangerous team in the SEC? With a questionable running game, no pass rush, mediocre special teams and a secondary full of holes? Not to mention the inevitable personnel issues that come with switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense.
I had no idea it was such a down year in the conference. 😉

He’s right. UT ranked 116 rushing in 2011. So put it on the qb to sling it around against a NCS d backfield that broke school records last year with their ints. Not good….”this won’t end well” for the Hounds of Knoxvegas.

Tennessee also gives Scorpio Jones III a bad case of the nerves. So that makes at least two on here who won’t receive dead flowers from Babs
