One reason I’m willing to excuse somewhat the disinterested play we saw at times last Saturday is that I suspect the staff has focused on the Missouri game longer and harder than they’ve let on publicly. Which is fine – a win in Columbia will make everyone instantly forget about yielding 23 points to a MAC squad.
And the coaches don’t seem to be missing any angles, either.

If I remember correctly, didn’t Richt mention how well Faton Bauta(sp?) was doing playing Franklin? And this was during preseason. So I’m hopeful that we have been focusing more on Mizzou, and that’s why we looked so flat last week. And that looking ahead pays off on Saturday.

Besides Alabama did any team really look that great in the opening week of play? Gators, Gamecocks, Commodores, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, etc. all looked pretty bleh. I guess you could say the Vols played pretty well.
I am more concerned about the O-Line injuries and Malcom Mitchell than I am how we looked against Buffalo.

But that cupcake (SE La.) might well have been On-the-Road hoboes for the week preceding the game, what with the after-effects of the hurricane throughout the Gulf coast. So there is a mitigating factor to the beatdown, I think.

SELA indeed did not practice leading up to their game with Mizzou. They also are one of the worst FCS teams around.
Seriously, if we had swapped opponents with Mizzou, everyone would be looking at things differently.

SE La. was 2-9 in 2010 and 3-8 in 2011 playing in the Southland Conference. They got beat by Southern Miss last year 52-6. Lost to NW State 51-17. Lost to Sam Houston State 38-9.
Just sayin, OTHER cupcakes beat up on that cupcake last year.

I agree. SEL is a cupcake and was in a horrible situation. Still UM looked good. But if you read their blogs, they are sweating out their O line.
I feel good about UGA’s chances to make a statement. Need to. Anything less than a blow out will be an excuse to drop the Dawgs lower in the polls….(now at 7 after a win).

Let’s see: Mizzou is unranked because they haven’t played an SEC opponent yet. If it’s close (and it will be) that means, by winning, we go to 10th. My advice to anyone who will listen is to forget where we are in the polls until the SECCG. Polls are constructed by fans like us and generally reflect some interinstitutional beauty contest politics.
Maybe we should take a “loner” view and just support the Dawgs with all we have and try to understand the team’s emotions through thick and thin. That way they can have their cake and we can eat it too.

All of our hand-wringing, bloviating and analysis, all of our collective wisdom and enthusiasm or lack of either or both, count for zilch-point-shit.
Things are what they are and will be what they will be…so yeah, Cojones, we’re being “real” when we just support the Dawgs and take all the good we can out of it and accept the bad without getting crazy.

I concur — this polling any more is beyond subjective now. What would that be, beyond subjective, anarchistic? Don’t know. But the way it seems to be colored by certain broadcast networks works squarely against coaches/institutions/(dare I say) players that have a broader view of the role of athletics. Maybe that is high-minded delusion, but I have grown to accept of UGa’s stiff resistance to temptation.

Check out http://www.rockmnation.com for good blogs and commentary from the Mizzou side. There seems to be some handwringing over the performance of their O line. Also, there is a lot of concern about the Tiger version of Joe Biden…he’s been hidden from the media until the game. Overall, they are very un-cockfanish in their expectations. From what I see they respect UGA, are expecting a hell of a fight, and are very aware of the suspension situation.

Richt’s “apparent slip” about what Bauta was doing on the scout team is very interesting, but I wonder if it means that Richt has finally tapped into his inner Dooley (Vince) and Bowden (Bobby) in a very misdirectional way. The non conversation about suspensions and the “Bauta slip” could mean the emergence of a new side of the evil Mark Richt…the tricky Richt?
I don’t know, as circumspect as Richt normally is with his public pronouncements….to make that slip…..seems out of character to me.

I imagine the CSS comment was something like “I wish I had half the assets on offense that you do, Mike.” Texas scored a whopping three points on offense up there last year.

I’d rather we talked to Manny Diaz and found out how he held that offense to 17. If we do that on Saturday, I think we win pretty comfortably.

LeMay could replicate the quickness, but not the size or bulldozer factor. Bauta is bigger and still pretty fast from what I understand. He probably does give you the best idea for how a guy that size moves.

Senator, your thoughts about preparation came to me in the same manner on the weekend. We most certainly would have prepared for Mizzou over the summer, just as they have spent most of their time on us.
Wouldn’t one think that we would be better prepared for Zordich’s runs than we were? Olivers jaunts were no secret as well. I felt leery watching our D line watching their RBs running past. It meant to me that our preparation wasn’t enough for the D to recognize the running patterns of another team and it wasn’t intentional. It certainly didn’t jive with player quotes of playing hard, no matter the team.

The QB runs on Saturday weren’t designed runs but rather scrambles when the pass play broke down. From what I have gathered from interviews and such is that they didn’t expect Zordich to be much of a running threat. Rest assured they do expect Franklin to run and will “spy” him with either a LB or S.
We didn’t blitz hardly at all against Buffalo and give their O line some credit for blocking well. Just because they play in the MAC doesn’t mean they are a HS team.

I had mentioned this the other day in a response to Macallan I believe, it was our playcall and dline that made it easy for them. Grantham explains it better on his interview after Tuesday’s practice. We were man 2 deep a lot. The d-line didnt gap protect or whatever enough. Kinda hard to do though when its 4 on 5 I suppose. I dont know I dont coach, just kinda makes sense to me.

I spoke to Jarvis’ uncle on Sunday. He said that they have been preparing for Missouri all summer long. Jarvis told him that he has seen so much Missouri film, he was sick of it. Jarvis seemed very confident that they could shut them down. His uncle also said they did not begin preparing for Buffalo until last Monday. So that would explain a lot.

Don’t forget that Buffalo had all summer to prepare for us. Give them credit for working us hard. Those guys didn’t have quit in’em.
I apologize if someone mentioned it, but I didn’t see one reference before or after the game about playing a team whose mascot is our mascot’s namesake. Bulldogs were bred to hold Bulls by the nose and control them.

I think those are just spreadsheet titles that have been left unchanged.
But the UA-A would seem like individual tackles plus assists to equal total tackles. And the UB would just be another column dedicated to use for statistical analysis.

to AlphaDawg, he was suspended, along with 3-4 others, for the first quarter for being in the car with Crowell. He did play some snaps later with one sack. I have some pics of him from the game, he still looks quite the part.
