Absolutely Love It. This play completely shifted the momentum and game in GA’s favor. Arguably one of the more important plays of Richt’s tenure. Good for you Richard Samuel!

Once again the much maligned, often forgotten, Richard Samuel comes thru big. The turning point of the game. If RS can’t make the tackle he probably would have got the 1st down. RS is a DGD!

While we’re on the subject of DGD, good on you Marlon Brown!

Having witnesses so many successful fake punts (Florida and WVU in 2005 & SC last year) this tackle was as satisfying as any play I can remember for a while.

The score doesn’t tell the story. We were chewing nails in the stands at that point in the game. The UGA crowd blew up with that play and stayed loud through the final whistle.

    Solid win!

RS4…nothing we say here will be worthy of what you did there, except…. Thanks man.

That’s a lot rosier picture picture than Richt collecting his play call sheet from hash marks a season ago.

this. fake punts you used to be automatic against Georgia. RS IV fighting off two blockers for the tackle summed up the game.

Was thinking the same thing. I can’t remember the last time we stopped one. I can certainly remember game ending (West Virginia) or scoring (South Carolina) conversions when the other team runs a fake.

What I can’t stand about Mark Richt is his total lack of emotion.

Things like this happen when you’ve got top-flight starters on special teams.

RS the fourth will always be a DGD to me. Selfless, team player, clutch plays. Loved the hug he got from Richt too. Priceless.

I thought that hug was great. It’s not often you see CMR run on the field to hug a player like that.

+1000 It was not a token hey nice play hug … Richt grabbed a hold of him and just wrapped him up for a long time. Given what we know about each of those men, I would guess that CMR has a lot of admiration for RSIV as a man & was ecstatic to see him make such a great play. CMR said it was the biggest play of the whole game.

  11. What fresh hell is this?

Absolutely awesome. Nobody deserves recognition more than Samuel after all he’s been through. I do believe he shed a double team to make that tackle. Hopefully this will become a historical play in a historical season.

They actually had three blockers in the area. The punter got a little in front of them and they managed to get in each other’s way just a bit. But RS deserves all the credit for sniffing it out and not giving them a chance to block him. Hell of a play. We made the big plays, they didn’t=21 point win.

the power decided it was a good time to flicker out on the 4th down punt at our house…

also, on the flipside, I wish I could’ve seen richt’s face on MM’s punt return decision.

From Seth Emerson’s article on locker room interview with MM:

He said he was 80 percent with his sprained ankle. So was he surprised he was allowed to return punts?

“No, but they probably won’t let me back there no more.”

I’m sure he was pumped, I mean isn’t this like the first successfully defended fake punt in his tenure at Georgia? Thank god it was 4th and 11. Not trying to be debbie downer, but do you think Bama or LSU would be this pumped about beating an unranked opponent? I know this was kind of an odd situation with all the hype, but it’s a little scary that we were sort of on the ropes against a middle of the pack Big 12 team. On that note, I heart Jarvis Jones and that WAS a great play by DickSam despite being blocked.

What you fail to realize is that we are not on Bama’s or LSU’s level yet. But they didn’t magically get great overnight. It was a building process. We are in the middle of that same building process. Last night was a huge step in the right direction. Mid pack Big 12 team or not, we lose that game two years ago. In fact, we DID lose to a last place Big 12 team two years ago. So, lets be happy about the strides that have been made over the last 2 years and quit groveling at the feet of Bama and LSU. It’s sickening.

If Bama or lSU were playing in a game and had to come from behind twice to win the game…….Heck yeah they’d be pumped!

Did anyone see Richt’s reaction when our kicker made the 50 plus yarder and while celebrating attempted to pick up the holder and failed?

As bad as we looked last year in the 2nd half at times, we’ve looked so much better in the 2nd half of both games this season.

+1 to our strength and conditioning this year. We looked like we could have played another 2 quarters. Them……not so much. Hopefully this keeps up.

Congrats to RSIV! I really thought he should have gotten some carries in the 2nd half to pound on that Mizzou line some. I’ll blame Bobo for that. 😉
