I always got along well with Aubies,,,,,,until 2010. It was my favorite rivalry, all that CFB should be but that was lost, imo. I still have some friends who are Auburn fans and we stay away from football discussions for the most part now. I have told them I cannot/will not pull for their team, even when they are playing OOC games. They are the only SEC team I hope loses every single time they step on the field. Only thing better than this 0-2 start for them would be for Emmert to go Penn State on them and give them the death penalty. Actions should have consequences, since the NCAA and SEC wimped out on their duties, perhaps karma will intervene and punish them.

Happy for Blair Walsh, a good kid who had a tough Senior year at UGA. Can you imagine what his life would have been like at a place such as Alabama last year? And speaking of ex-Dawgs, I hope Logan Gray liked that 4th quarter.

Also happy for him, hope he continues to show what he was before the senior year collapse. I understand how a technical adjustment could solve the problem but the MN coach said it was a quick. simple fix. Even without a ST coach, couldn’t we have had a “consultant” come in and help? About halfway through the season last year he said his old kicking coach had explained his tick to him and it was all OK. Turned out not so much. These things happen. See Uggla, Dan.

Yes, that was the rumor, maybe even fact, but the Vikings coaches fixed him. This quote from Marshall is SCARY! This is one instance where we the fans are smarter than the coaching staff. Can we get a quick clinic on timing, for goodness sake?! A real, paid for clinic, from a coach and not players trial and error? Please!

What’s scary is that he said he was worried about the extra point getting blocked. Someone needs to explain to him that the closer in he is, the less chance it gets blocked due to the higher trajectory.

Please, allow me to indulge in a little what-if-orizing:
His problems didn’t necessarily have to have stemmed from a single issue just as the solution may have eliminated more than one problem.
Kicking, I have heard, is mostly mental. If a savvy ST coach came up with this timing thing, legitimate or not is irrelevant, he could have suggested to Blair that therein was the problem, and not all this other silly stuff in his life, head, etc. His kicking was in his head, he could say, it was purely technical. Blair could have then processed this information as such, fixed it, ignored the ephemera in his head and gone on about being a great kicker.
Glad for him. I just don’t think it was as simple as merely a timing issue. Treating the symptom corrected the problem.

I agree, much more mental than physical. As a golfer, and former kicker, when you miss a shot/kick in one direction it is easy to lose the confidence to trust that is might have just been a fluke, one time thing. The tendency is to tinker with your mechanics and make a slight correction. After a few of those, you sometimes cannot get back to the starting point, even if you want to. Or, it could just be mental, losing your confidence can cause you to be a little tighter and less fluid. Either way, I am happy for him and wish he could have made that big kick against Michigan State rather than saving a pro team that played like they deserved to lose yesterday. Blair Walsh, DGD.

I think kicking is a lot like golf. It’s a mental thing. As the Golden Bear once said “the most important six inches in golf is between your ears.” Phil just changed his putting grip and he is putting better than he has in years. Was anything wrong with the old grip? I don’t know, but he won four Masters with the old grip. Maybe he lost confidence in the stroke and a coach made a suggestion. Just a little thing but old Phil is smiling and having fun on the coarse again. Maybe when Blair made a change and started hitting kicks in practice he started having fun again. I imagine missing a gimmie FG feels like missing a two foot putt. Trust me, it ain’t no fun at all.

3 Masters and 1 PGA for a total of 4 major championships. A little discussed fact about Phil: If he had parred the 72nd hole at the 2006 US Open at Winged Foot he would have won the last 3 majors played at that time, meaning that he could have then won the modern day professional Slam by winning the next major, the British Open. Alas, he double-bogeyed the hole instead and went into a funk the rest of that year.
