I know she is the wife of a coaching legend at the University of Georgia, but I have (and for the most part always had) a strong dislike for Barbara Dooley. This story doesn’t help that perception.

I find it hard to believe that Barbara Dooley, who is not uneducated about the slings and arrows of college football, would alter her relationship with Robinson because his hat got in the way of Bray’s hand.
I know Bobra is a very….uh….active? Momma, but this tale would seem to warrant further scrutiny.
And more importantly, even if the story is true for the reasons stated, who gives a fat rat’s ass.

I don’t know Barbara Dooley but have crossed paths with her. She use to run. As a family (wife and two sons) we have done a few of the Athens 5K races. At one race my youngest( maybe he was 6 at the time) wandered up to Barbara while his mom and I were getting our numbers pinned on. He asked her if she was still married to Coach Dooley now that he had lost his job. I didn’t realize he had walked up to her until I heard her howl with laughter. My wife went and rounded my son up and chatted with her. Barbara made a point after the race to find my youngest and ask how his race went.

Great story, AHD. And Barbara doesn’t bother me that much. But I grew up in a family with lots of southern women of all ages. I can relate to her antics.

Kramer demonstrated his lack of vision when he led the BCS process, it needed to go deeper, and so does this next step. When you don’t get legitimacy because you didn’t factor in the need for adequate representation you leave the door open for another expansion. For those worried about too much expansion, it comes from not doing things right the first time. With 120 teams, two entries wasn’t enough. With 6 “power conferences”, neither is four.
BCS was better than the prior system (which was no system at all), this expansion to four is better than two, taking it to eight would have taken all the ammo away from the need for further expansion. If it expands again, and it should, it will be because the leaders ignored the root cause for why it was necessary to expand this time. When you have a leak, fix the entire problem or you will need a plumber again.

I know you are consistent in that stance, and it is basically true for the conference leaders, but that isn’t what has driven the fan discontent for decades. And I know how many votes fans have, zero, but the unrest has contributed to the expansion too because the system was really screwed up when no one even made the effort to get highly rated teams together due to bowl alliances. I am sure we are stick with this for at least a decade unless the SuperConference idea becomes a reality.

Mac, he is absolutely right about the root cause of all this, and with the WWL acting as numero uno shill for the “conference leaders”, as soon as there is an opportunity for more money there will be further changes.
I disagree there was massive fan discontent, I am comfortable believing this massive objection to the then system was mostly a media product.
Most folks, I think, enjoyed the argument they could carry over until the next football season.
The whole “who is number one” is just an income generating subject, like Christmas has become…. The only time the process produced a clear champion was l980.

On this blog, you are right, the majority here prefers no increase in playoff teams at all, but nationally a large majority favor a playoff. Not only in polls, but on mesage boards and talk shows. I don’t think it is a media fabrication at all. While understanding it can go too far, I am just amazed at the responses here. Do not understand how CFB fans can oppose a true playoff. But enough of that, we have a real title that must be won on the field to concentrate on. Playoffs will take care of themselves one day, unfortunately it missed most/all of my lifetime.

Mac most of my friends are avid college ball fans and none of them, none, gave a damn about a playoff and could not understand the stink about one they read or heard about in the media.
Unless and until the scholarship limit is raised by a good bit, there can not be a fair playoff in football. Oh you can have something they say is a playoff, but it really is not, what it is is a kind of last man standing kick boxing contest.
I guess my friends and I were never interested in what other people said about which team was the best team….if you watch a good bit of football you know.

But seriously, I wouldn’t mind playing Washington or Georgia. I like the idea of an early Big Ten / Pac-12 matchup, and Georgia just because they always seem overrated early in the year, and would be a nice win on the resume.

2007 – began #5 and finished #18 after bowl win against UF (who finished 3rd inthe East); started 0-2 after losses against App St and Oregon
2008 – began #24 in Coaches Poll (NR in AP) only to proceed to go 3-9 in Rich Rod’s first year
2009 – began NR, creeped up to #23 after 4 weeks, only to lose 7 of their last 8 games
2010 – began NR, creeped up to #19 after 5 weeks, only to lose 6 of their last 8 games, including blowout loss to Miss St (finished 5th out of 6 SEC West teams) in Gator Bowl
2011 – began NR, finished #13 (huzzah!); did not play SEC team
2012 – began #8 only to lose 2 of first 4 games
I actually don’t mind Michigan one bit. But why they gotta be talkin’ unprovoked smack about us?

He may need to be referred to the “overrated/underrated” site where they track such things. Amazing how Americans believe anything they hear on radio/TV, or read in print without challenging them. Long history of that ,and it isn’t limited to those Michigan fans who have spent most of their lives in football fantasy land. When the Big 10 FINALLY stopped hiding behind the Rose Bowl and began playing other conferences they have been exposed.

Not the brightest group, but we have spme pretty stupid posters on our boards as well. I don’t really get the “outside the South comment”. Forgetting the obvious mistakes about where we have played away games, so playing Clemson isn’t a foreign environment? And they conveniently forget Evans went specifically to Big 10 teams trying to line up a home and home and was basically shut out. I think Big Blue owes us a return trip already. What a bunch of goofs.

In that case you need a drink. Being that worried in the face of great happenings is depressing. There is a time to worry, and times to celebrate. Don’t listen to him, celebrate, drink to our success and leave to just a little time to fret. Got to have some balance, SJ3 is right to have concerns, but not to the extent of never letting it go. There are many more positives than negatives with this team, and they don’t look like the type of group to overlook anyone on the way to their objectives.
The dice will roll each Saturday, and sometimes they take funny bounces, but there are a lot more ways to win than to lose this year. This team may stumble, that is OK, they have already shown me they are a group to stand behind and support. (Not sayng anyone who worries isn’t a supporter but you have to reward a group that is doing so much right, not nag them about every little thing.) Good leadership on both sides of the ball this season, they seem mature.
