One more happy stat

This one kinda snuck up on me, but Aaron Murray now ranks third nationally in passer rating.

Clearly it is too bad we kicked Mett off the team and Bobo is an idiot for not playing Hutson Mason.

    2nd in yards/attempt.

This offense is so damn balanced.

Murray really was undone by his freshman season. He had the best season of any QB since David Greene – of course improvement from there will be modes. Stafford did it the right way – be absolutely terrible your freshman year, improve to flashy mediocrity as a sophomore, and THEN have a very nice year. If Murray had taken reins during any one of Stafford’s years, we would just be over the moon, but because we can’t help but compare him to himself all we can see if a guy who ‘can’t win the big game’, ‘is too amped in the first quarter’ and ‘doesn’t make smart decisions’.

The truth is, compared to the average QB at a top-tier school (including those at UGA of recent vintage), NONE of those things are true. The last one is particularly silly. Yes, Murray throws interceptions like everyone else, that’s why you have stats like passer rating and td/int ratio – to evaluate the frequency of those INTs objectively (and news flash: a turnover in the first quarter of a loss is ultimately every bit as devastating as one in the fourth quarter, it just doesn’t feel like it).

And as great as his Frosh season was statistically (and what little, if any improvement he showed his Soph season besides passing TDs), his junior year is looking even better. He likely won’t stay at 180+ passer rating all season, but he should easily finish above 160, possibly even 170.

Geno has 20 TD and 0 INT’s in 4 games. That pretty damn impressive as much as they throw the ball.

“SEC – Year of the Quaterback” may not be dead yet. 3 of the Top 10 are from the SEC and 4 of the Top 11. However, the Big XII has 5 of the Top 10, 6 of the Top 13 and 7 of the Top 20.

If Tyler Wilson could just carry his share of the load…… Those Arky people are great snakeoil salesmen. Have they ever had a QB or defense that wasn’t going to be the best in CFB? Top 10 last year my arse, SC gets a schedule dodge every year with them.

They were mostly legit under Petrino, but for all his flaws, that guy is a great college coach. The idea that losing him and plugging in a stop-gap like John L. Smith wouldn’t hurt them was ludicrous, though I don’t think anybody expected the fall to be so steep.

Don’t blame it on them, Mac, with Petrino and Wilson, they were a pretty good offense but no defense, none…it is amazing nobody seems to have noticed all that motorcycle momma stuff before the pre-season bullshit started. That’s one of the reasons I don’t get all giddy when the stats come out.

Surely, for this we can blame Bobo. And I won’t even get in trouble.

It is still impressive, but hed moves down to #8 when compared against 1-A opponents.

Connor Shaw at 78.1% completion. I see the 5 yard underneath routes open all day long for him…

I know it’s early, but who thought a month ago that Jeff Driskel would be higher than Landry Jones, Zach Mett, and Tyler Wilson.

If Murray sticks around to throw 18 more passing TD’s (I’d be fine with him doing that this season), he’ll be in first place for passing TDs in SEC history. Over Tebow, over Peyton Manning, over Eli Manning, over everybody ever.

Ah. So that was since 2000. My mistake.
He has 71 now. 88 ties him with Tebow and Leak. 89 ties him with Peyton for 2nd all-time. Weurffel has 1st place with 114 though. Within reach in 2 years, though.

“Tyler” is the most popular name for a QB on that list.
