It’s no big secret that Georgia at times looked out of sync on the defensive side of the ball against Tennessee. One reason for that is that the Dawgs had four players starting at their positions for the first time this season: Rambo at safety, Commings at cornerback, Ogletree at the Sam linebacker position… and Herrera at the Mike linebacker position.
Grantham is a big believer in getting the best eleven guys on the field, and that’s great, but there was also a price for that last weekend.
“Amarlo’s earned that right because of the way he’s played in the first few games,” defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said. “As a coach we tell players if you make plays, we’re going to find a way to get you on the field. He’s earned the right to play. …We’ll stick with it and continue to work it.”
Herrera, a 6-4, 245-pound sophomore, leads Georgia with 36 tackles.
At “Mike,” he’s asked now to signal the plays to the defense and identify formations.
“It was a little different at first trying to feel my way out,” Herrera said. “After a few minutes, I got in the flow of it.”
I’m certain things will improve as the defense adjusts to the moves. The question is whether things will improve fast enough. Like by this coming Saturday.

Folks…losing 82 is a bummer of the first degree.
I am sure there is a thread of truth in the Senator’s supposition the defense will settle down. I noticed more looking around at the other folks on defense than I usually note, which is an indication there was some settling in going on.
Yes, we have other receivers who may be able to take up the slack, but can Murray get comfortable with them in three days?
I sure hope the answer to the above is positive, because this is a really big game.
I am beginning to realize it may very well be only those of us who have the long view of things Dawg can fully appreciate the significance of the out come of this thing.

Scorp, I’m one of the “little guys”. I will be hunkerd down in front of my TV in my camper. My wife will not disturb my “hunkering” and will excuse my outbursts, both positive and negative. My practical side tells me that my projected emotions will not help the Dawgs one bit, but since I’m going to have them anyway, why not strain to project them into the williamsbryceosphere where the Dawgs will be fighting for our way of life over South Carolina’s way of life? Yes, I will Scorpio, Yes I will sweat from every pore of my being to help the Dawgs. Wheather it helps them or not, I’ll strain to do this…I can’t help it because everything is at stake here.

I watched the replay of last year’s game last night. He dropped one early that would’ve given us either 6 or a close 1st & G. I can’t remember if it was either a made field goal or the missed one that came next but either way. It hurt.

Anyone besides me feel both the defense and offense now have great motivation and a reason for focus in this game adding to our edge? Not under any delusion this could be a tough game, nor that it could go against us, but I think the intangibles are sliding our way. As much as I hate giving the home team any edge by playing at night, I am really glad this is the nightcap/primetime slot for what is a very exciting SEC matchup. About time we were the spotlight team, and we are damned worthy of this.

When i read this my thought was”at least playing time is based on making plays,not seniority”. Have more faith in the 11 best players than the old system of playing upperclassmen when more talented players watched from the bench.

My problem was that the TV and radio were sooo out of sync that it was just distracting to do the TV/radio thing. I am amazed the radio guys don’t make more of an effort to sync their delay to the tv pitcher, as more of us would tune in…maybe they can’t for some tech reason.

That is my thought as well, and I have a high degree of certainty it will happen. Defense has carried the O for almost every year of CMRs tenure, they and Grantham have to be very embarrassed about the performance this year. The band’s back together again, time to live up to that reputation, been humiliating for them this week. Plus, the offense could use a lift with a man down this late in the week. Confident we will see last year’s defense (Top 5) this weekend.

I am concerned about 3-4 turnovers in our own backfield / pick 6s compliments of clowney and Co. We have seen that formula lead to an L in similar situations as this before… Even when the defense played well. Offensive line play of UGA is also key here.

This Saturday will be very revealing about our OL. They have been getting lots of props nationally, and I think we are all very pleased with how they have performed versus expectations. I hope they are still getting praise on Sunday, if they are things look very good for the Dawgs in 2012.
