‘Cocky talk

Gotta admit this was pretty nervy:

But when a threatening comment is made just outside a locker room less than an hour before kickoff, it will resonate and reverberate as loudly as any stadium roar. This is what happened Saturday night on the field at Tiger Stadium just outside the chute that goes to LSU’s locker room, according to LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger:

“We’re coming for you, 8,” a South Carolina player told Mettenberger, who wears No. 8.

“You’re not going to make it through the game,” South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney said.

You know, when you’ve got a team that’s sleepwalking through its schedule, as LSU had been lately, the first rule is don’t do anything to wake it up.  Especially when you’re traveling.  Well played, gentlemen.

Afterwards Clowney said that some of his teammates didn’t play as hard as they could have, you know, maybe they were scared.

I hate that…I honestly wanted SC to win. I know that our best chance at the SECCG was for SC to lose, and I find comfort in the fact that their loos is good for us.
But, on a totally different level, I just like the idea of someone that beats us down, looking really good in their other games and beating everyone else handily. It makes us look ‘not as bad.’

Granted I am easy to confuse about football, since I mostly only walked by the Arena and all…but Ida thought South Carolina winning makes us look better.

Course the view from the second tier is always a little confused.

Yeah, that’s what I was trying to say. I know that with their loss, we have a chance at the SECCG now, but if SC just whipped everyone all year, I feel like it would make our loss a bit more palatable.

Except, lets be honest the only reason SC whipped us so badly is they got up early and had home field. If they had played LSU at home, they win that game. In College football, home field matters, when you have loud fans anyway.

The only reason they beat us is because they were more man than us. Did you see the play of our offensive and defensive lines? We could have left them both on the bus.

  3. What SC did a week ago was unsustainable. It was like when we went to LSU in 2008 and lit the place up firing on all cyclinders. Then came home to black out against Alabama. West Virginia is the latest flame out. Playing at 110% week after week is impossible. Clearly SC was not as good as they looked on the 6th and we aren’t as bad as we looked.

Clowney didn’t look too good on that first drive of the second half when LSU ran right at him time after time. You think the Gators won’t pay close attention to that?

I think the 2008 LSU game was after the Bama game.

The way to handle Clowney on pass plays is to run the play action right at him, with the full back coming at a full head of steam. Trying to put a slower and less experienced lineman to pick him up as he comes around the edge is a waste of time…Run right at him until he feels like there’s a contract on him…it can be done.

I wouldn’t call it lighting the place up in Baton Rouge, 2008. We gave up 38pts. Just so happens they gave us that game by giving us two defensive touchdowns. Let’s remember that LSU is a better team than we are playing at home…. that’s why USCe lost to them. I think we could play USCe 10 more times and we’d lose 8 of them.

Georgia had good yardage on their very first play from scrimmage. The second play they ran a stupid trick that put them in a hole. SC’s first deep pass was intercepted by Georgia, only to be taken away during the tackle. SC leads a charmed life against UGA> I think SC was a better team and better coached and deserved to win…but it should have been much, much closer. I don’t know if UF’s O line can match up with them.

You guys think it’s negative around here lately? You should check out some other blogs. Here’s a nice rant from a Texas site:

    No mas

I haven’t read a single comment here, so excuse me if this is redundant.

I am done with Mack Brown. DONE.

I have been one of his bigger apologists the past 14 years. I’ve had season tickets that entire time. I have been to three Rose Bowls. I have been to 27 consecutive OU games. And I am done with you, Mack. DONE. You have shit the bed against OU too many times, and you can’t win shit w/o Black Jesus. And as I watch Tech thump WVA, I realize that the bubble has burst.

Mack, you make me embarrassed to be a Longhorn. I have eaten shit from OU fans one too many times. No man is irreplaceable, and it is time for you to step aside.

DeLoss, my remaining season tickets will be in the mail to you on Monday. I hope you choke on them.

I think most Gamecock fans hate the gimmicky uniforms. The *only* thing I can say in their defense, is that they will be auctioned off to raise money for Wounded Warrior Project – which I think we call can agree is a worthy cause. Doesn’t mean I don’t hate the look, however.

The LSU defense shut down the zone read and Shaw’s running, and Lattimore for the most part. LSU’s D also flys around the field the whole game – something UGA doesn’t do. Our D this year is very similar to Donnan’s D in the late 90’s – NFL starters everywhere but no killer instinct. Bunch of front runners…we have to get ahead for our guys to keep their interest. Man, I wish we played like LSU’s D. Did I mention I love how LSU plays defense?

Did not watch the game intensively, but I thought one thing that LSU did was they brought pressure up the middle and pushed the pocket back, not from the edge; this kept Shaw from getting a lot of running lanes.
Jarvis could bring the pressure from the edge against a poor/banged-up O-line like Missouri’s, but the South Carolina tackles just bounced him and naturally pushed him to the outside, opening up big running lanes. I think bringing pressure up the middle, rather than from the edge, will be the key to controlling Driskel instead of getting torched like Vandy did last night….

Why cant LSU find themselves a decent QB? Scares me to think of what they would be with a good QB!

Not dangerous enough to beat MSU. Or Georgia. Or Florida.

Tenn got 7 off of special teams and more than 200 from the rushing attack last night and still found a way to lose. I think they lose to Alabama and SC, and then Dooley has to hold them together for the remaining 4 gimmes. If they don’t show up for either Kentucky or Vandy, he’s gone.

It would be nice. SC will be at the end of a Georgia-LSU-Florida string and their 8th game in a row. Vols, on the other hand, will be coming off Bama. So it will be sloppy, and sloppy tends to favor the underdog. That’s my optimistic spin, at any rate.

  12. Spurrier cemented his status as the largest dildo in a profession of dicks with his post-game interview. How many ways can a coach throw his team under the bus? “My QB must have got hit in the head. I kept asking my coaches, ‘Did he get hit in the head?’ He was confused. He threw the ball down the wrong sideline and cost a touchdown. I don’t know what he was thinking. Now, any questions?” (paraphrasing)

Old ball coach tells the half time girl, “did a poor job of calling plays”. “We are going to throw more in the second half”. Better than Bobo who never knows. One pick and another set up a score. The old ball coach loves the game, and his teams have a plan and roster management.

If Shaw hits those two deep routes, they win. Spurrier knew it, and he reacted how he normally does when a QB makes a crucial error – put more pressure on the QB until he either redeems himself or makes an even bigger mistake.

This is really the first time Shaw has had to deal with being tossed under the bus, a Spurrier QB ritual. I could see Spurrier mismanaging the situation badly enough to cost his team more games.

  18. I had no idea how perfectly this schedule works out . We play UF the week after they play USC and the week after we play probably the worst team in the SEC. Florida wins but Dreskel gets the shit beat out of him… how perfect is this set up. We get the head to head with UF and we get the honor of have Alabama kick our ass in Atlanta. Spurrier buys the Cocks a ring for beating UGA 3 years in a row but not a championship ring. I’ll live with this because nobody is beating that Alabama team….NOBODY.
