Pat Dye is back with the man talk.

Except this time it’s directed at Auburn… more specifically, at Auburn’s quarterbacks.  Here’s what he mournfully told Finebaum, who must have had the mother of all erections listening to it:  “Unless one of them stands up and becomes a man, and I haven’t seen it yet, I don’t think we stand a chance. Not against a good football team.”

But wait!  There’s more where that came from.

“Mississippi did a smart thing when they went and got a junior college quarterback. He ain’t no great quarterback but he’s mature. He’s man enough to take the criticism that comes with the position. If you can’t take it, it makes a coward out of you. To me, that’s the problem we’ve got right now.”

Dye may say he’s standing behind Gene Chizik, but when you’re pointing to Ole Miss as a model to be followed, let’s just say it’s hardly a ringing endorsement.

  1. I feel sorry for Chiz. Watching him have to stand at that News Conference and defend himself and the team is sad. You fire CMR guys would have him hanging from the nearest tree and post, “The Boys of GTP Did This.”

If you want to feel bad for the coach of Auburn, be my guest. Me, I’m enjoying watching the fall of a man who led one of our biggest rivals to what I will always believe was a sham of a championship with a bought player.

An ex-coach, maybe anyone, who calls out college athletes in the media, questioning their masculinity, isn’t a man himself. Dye is an old fart and a tool. This is almost as low as calling someone out by name anonymously on a blog post (mirror meet face).

Who keeps asking Dye questions and why?

Finebaum has Dye on regularly as a guest. Many of Dye’s comments originate there.

Dude, I am really sorry you know this, since it indicates you may expose yourself to that show…bad idea, only adds to your angst.

If you listen to foolish things, said by fools….well….that shit is contagious, you know?

Why do I get the feeling Pat Dye has a steamer trunk full of lingere, dresses, costume jewelry and other pretty things? I have visions of him watching games in full on drag.

Dude has some serious gender issues. Anyone who is that perpetually consumed by questions of others man-hood is almost surely fighting his own internal identity.

Sure hope you don’t apply that pseudopsychology to our monikers here.

It seems to me what Pet may be saying is: “Yo, Chiz, you hired an OC that runs what you got nobody on your team to run…how come you didn’t go get a JC quarterback who could run it ?”

Which seems to me a valid question…if you interpret Pet the way I do.

It makes me uncomfortable to call Pet a dumbass, since I share a degree from the same institution, although his class standing was considerably higher than mine.

🙂 No worries. The difference with Pat is I don’t give him enough credit for attempts at shtick or irony. He genuinely seems to be over compensating.

Granted I have not been around Pet in a while, but he used to know exactly what he was doing, knew exactly what he was saying and how it would be received by the folks he was really talking to…sides, this “Man Up” stuff got a lotta ink the first time.

Trust me, Ole Pet ain’t got no sexual identity issues.

Clearly, all of this was tongue-in-cheek.

That said, Pat clearly has run out of ideas and analysis as everything always hinges on manliness.

Sounds like Dye is channeling his Inner Pulpwood: “Our quarterbacks? They ain’t nothin’ but a bunch of pussies…”

Or his inner Butkus. “Quarterbacks? The’re pretty boys. When we are bustin’ our butts in practice nobody can hit them. They get the big contracts and the glory. They get the women. When I get a shot at one of them I make him earn every damn bit of it.”

Pat Dye earned his degree from UGA pre-Jan Kemp. Not trying to imply anything with that, it’s just a simple statement of fact.

If you are not implying anything why say it? When you say his degree( and mine) are pre-Kemp, the obvious implication is that there is some difference. No other way to read it.

If you are implying Georgia is tougher academically for football players, post-Kemp, that would certainly be correct.

However, if you are implying with that reference that Pet could be a dumbass, despite his degree and high class standing, I would argue you are wrong.

But then I would have to, would I not?

Of course I was implying something. It was a joke. I was joking that you can go ahead and call Dye a dumbass because his degree could very well have been earned because of football acumen. Again, it was a joke, I don’t actually believe that.

And, Scorpio, unless you were a UGA athlete, pre or post-Jan Kemp has nothing to do with you and your degree.

He sounds sad because he’s thinking about all those wasted years…without his favorite pair of pants.

Pat was a good football player in those years when even I got a cuppa coffee with the Dawgs…he worked at and succeeded at coaching but his ego got stroked by Sonny and company and his leaving resonated in his mind as “they” got rid of him. His solace, even in the old days, was a good drink..and many of them. He should have just faded away and mubbled to himself instead of to Paul Finebaum. Give it a rest, Pat.

Conversations this past weekend with a retired SEC football official (25 yrs) that Coach Dye was a great guy but once the game started was completely gone during game time. Had to count on good asst coaches to make on the field decisions. The official said he witnessed some of Dye’s practices and they were the most physical he had ever seen. The official was a former Ole miss player.

I gotta tell this tale….Awbun is deep in Bama territory about the eight….the clock is winding down, if Awbun scores, they win….which is fairly large in that state.

Pet is jumping around, windmilling his arms, hollering at players, coaches, running up and down the sidelines trying to get a play in, trying to get a player in

Meanwhile, Pet’s offensive coordinator has his arm around the shoulder of this big tight end named Lawyer Tillman. The OC whispers, Lawyer grins and sprints onto the field waving his arm at the quarterback.

The OC stands with his arms folded over his chest…Pet is screaming in his ear….the OC nods at Pet….Pet is screaming, the stadium is rocking, the ball is snapped and Lawyer Tillman starts one way, turns back the other way and takes the hand off to dance into the end zone.

Pet is screaming, dancing, arms up, fists clenched….tears running down his face.

The OC is standing, his arms folded over his chest, smiling slightly, nodding his head as true, unadulterated pandemonium breaks loose around him.

Thus began a streak of four Iron Bowl wins in a row for Awbun…a fairly large deal in Alabama.

The OC…that would be Pat Sullivan, the second greatest football player to ever play in the SEC…and the man who would have been Erk Russell’s OC at Georgia.

I had the distinct privilege to observe that little scene live on the field from just behind the Awbun bench there in Legion Field.

That’s what I think about when I think about Pet.
