War for the Oar is a ridiculous student body trophy trade. Thank the maker they don’t make us endure the trophy transfer AT the game. Apparently, they’ll do it this week some time; one student body president to another.

The Oar is supposedly encased at the Student Center during the year when we have it.
The trophy was definitely exchanged at the game, since I saw our students carrying it over to the team bus at the stadium.
The Oar has been around for at least 5-6 years as the game trophy

Consistent with Florida football tradition, the oar dates back to 2009. At this early stage, we should just name it the BankofAmerica oar, or Netflix oar.

Looking at the Jordan Reed fumble again, I’d say Jarvis had stripping on his mind, as compared to a reflexive play. Reed was hanging the ball out and Jones grabbed the optimal place on the wrist/hand.

Jarvis is a genius player. As an instinct, he knew there were 2 UGA defenders to stop Reed from TD…and that if Jones tackled Reed from behind, it would only serve to push the ensuing pile into the endzone. Thus, he went for the strip and let the other 2 UGA defenders push him back away from the goal line. The stuff of legends.

When I watch the jordan reed play I can’t help but wonder WTF tree is doing in coverage?? He’s in perfect position to make a play on the ball and doesn’t and then seems to make no effort to tackle the guy. I know it worked out but damn he looks bad right there.

Ogletree was called out all week by ESPN’s Trevor Mattich and he showed some examples of Ogletree playing soft to support his argument. Ogletree seemed to be more aggressive Saturday, but he was getting beat and missing tackles all day. As well as the D played, Ogletree was a guy who continues to disappoint. Expectations were obviously much too high for him.

And on the other side of the coin, how did Jarvis get back to catch up with a pass play in the secondary , run the receiver down and strip the ball before he can cross the goal line? How did he get back there so quickly to win the game?

If he goes pro I can’t imagine him going in the first 2 rounds. LB’s aren’t drafted that high in large quantities to begin with. More so a guy that doesn’t appear to grade out very well.

I was thinking about Tree a little in that light – the guy hasn’t really played a lot of ball for us – missed 6 games last yr from injury, 4 this year due to his second off-field behavior-related suspension; played some safety his freshman year, but wasn’t the full-time starter until at least halfway through season – I hear people talking about him being a “first-rounder” but I don’t see that happening this year.
O-Hell Thurman, an off-field “troubled” linebacker a few years back, went midway through Round 2, and he was basically a can’t miss prospect.
I suspect we’ll have Tree back next year, but you never know.

I’m so confused? Are you guys trolling? Tree might have had a bad play or two, but he’s also racked up 40 tackles in just 4 games. For those keeping track, that’s an average of 10 tackles a game.
The ticker at the bottom of the screen on ESPN on Saturday kept showing proposed draft positions, and Alec was the 3rd LB taken, behind Jarvis and another person, of course.

I thought my post was straightforward enough – I like Tree, think he’s a good ballplayer, etc., just saying my personal suspicion is he won’t be a first-rounder – for the reasons I posted.

Looks like me he attempts to make a play on ther ball, but takes a bad angel. This then put him in a bad position to make the tackle since the receiver spun inside and not out. It happens. No different than talking about the several missed takles on the clip for Mitchell. Funny thing about sports is that the guy on the other side is always trying to win too.

Ogletree is playing soft. He takes plays off and doesn’t hustle to the ball. Watch him let up before the play is dead, happens alot. He and Gillard aren’t what we thought. Brandon Smith was leaped over and didn’t want to hit Burton. Gillard gets eaten up by blockers and can’t shed them. Christian Robinson is slow. The rest of the defense played lights out abd Jarvis Jones is one special player.

The Oar started in 2009 and will continue to be displayed Georgia side up on the 3rd floor of the Tate Center.
Made from an old cypress tree on the state border, it is one of the nicest rivalry game trophies out there.

Couple of things I’d like to mention.
1. I couldn’t be happier with how this team is handling adversity. There was a time when the team seemed dysfunctional to the point that Shawn Williams calling out the team would cause us to play pissed off but unfocused. We obviously don’t know what goes behind closed doors, but I saw a team that let his comments be exactly what they needed. Seems like it’s been a long time coming.
2. The defense seemed to be the kind that Grantham said he wanted back when he was hired. The kind that win or lose, you’re glad you don’t have to play them again. These guys seemed outright ferocious and left an impression on Florida. I could just be biased and/or hopeful that I’m right though.
3. Malcolm Mitchell sure does know how to redeem himself.
4. As much as I loved to see Boom fuming at that kid early, just because it ws funny, I liked Grantham unleashing his own can of whoopass on that kid that got the personal foul penalty, because that as stupid, stupid penalty. Senator, if you haven’t seen either, make sure you catch them both on the replay.

I thought Muschamp’s hateful profanity-laced sneer at his own player was so bad it will probably hurt recruiting for FU, to tell you the truth. Grantham looked fine, clearly in the heat of battle and making a point.
On Shawn Williams, my only regret is that our coaches can’t seem to get our guys to respond similarly….

I don’t know… if a recruit is offended and won’t pick our school by seeing one of our coaches getting on a player’s ass in whatever fashion, I just assume they go somewhere else anyway.

Agree with you and Heyberto. D was delivering brutal hits and rushes to QB had real intensity. I was in florida most of last week and read how some fu players watched replays of the UGA win from last year as motivation. I don’t think they’re going to want to watch us knocking the ship out of them on the replays from this years game, and I doubt they’d look forward to playing us again any time soon.

I love listening to the Reed play and you can hear the shift in cheering from the Florida side as he gets the first down and approaches the endzone, then to the Georgia side as the ball pops loose and the elation from our side when we recover.

Hypothesis times….I say that had Reed scored, The Junkyard stuffs the two point attempt. No way these guys, at the level they were playing, were going to let the Gators get the two. Florida would have moved early or fumbled or Driskell would have panicked. Then the blitz would have burried him in the backfield, or maybe a Florida running back would have been thrown to the turf near the sideline. The Junkyard was mean, mean, mean. I’m as certain of this as I am that Stever Spurrier threw his visor at the fumble, wherever his sour little ass was at the time. You KNOW that hurt him!
I repeat..the game was over even if Reed scored. Providence provided the ball flying out like that as heavenly icing on a delicious and wonderful cake!
