If Danny Sheridan didn’t exist, surely ‘Bama fans would have to invent him.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

If Arkansas is dumb enough to hire Butch Davis and his baggage train after all they’ve been through, they will truly be the worst run athletic department in college football.

Have sent a message to some Auburn insiders to see who they are considering.

There’s a substantial amount of Petrino love at Auburn, left over from when he was OC for Tuberville. Fits the narrative of their amorality too.

These guys have a well respected law firm in B’ham. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say. Good guys who were not pleased about the Cam Newton deal.

But they were pleased with the crystal trophy, right? Please excuse the snark, but I couldn’t resist.

🙂 They knew there would be negative consequences. They have seen some serious consequences ex: RIchard Scrushy.

This from my (too many) Auburn friends in Montgomery:
Petrino passes the eye test, but not the smell test.
If not Petrino, who would take the job, at this point?
They are saying that they believe the field of candidates narrows quickly if they pass on Petrino. They covet his wins but loath what he brings. Most have “checked out” of caring about this year, instead, trying to enjoy the social aspects of football Saturdays and praying that some miracle will happen in the future.

Charlie Strong would seem like an obvious short-lister. Would they go back to Gus Malzahn? Would Gus go back to the Plains?

Strangely, Malzahns name makes them stare off into space with a look of dumbfoundedness. Malzahn’s departure was personal to many. It’s like “he didnt want to be there, so, good riddance”. Why in the sam hell they still look affectionately at Petrino is beyond me. I’m like Joy, though. I don’t know any decision-makers, but most don’t seem to think the time is right for Petrino.
After all, they are Family. And no one smells less like family than Bobby P.

I challenge the prefix “a”. It should be “im”.

There’s a lot less Petrino love at Auburn than you wish there to be.

Isn’t Danny Sheridan the guy who claimed to know the identity of Cecil Newton’s bag man from Auburn?

Yes, he came out at SEC media days with Finnebaum

And quickly shown to be a rumor-baiting blowhard. Too bad, he comes off as so wise and deep-voiced assured, much like “Mr. SEC”. After wading through their molasses, you find mud underneath your feet that doesn’t wash off easily. Wonder how many in-the-know early releases we will get from those two this year. Did either one pick the Dawgs, Sat? They join their ESPN buddies while reveling in their “expertise”.
Only Schlabach among the high profile writers picked us. Thanks for the film ahead of time, Bluto.

Another reason to call back coaches from recruiting? You will not be the coaches when these guys sign their LOI’s.

Are there any Auburn or Tennessee pre-commits you would like to see reconsider their decision and make a trip to Athens?
We have three home games left for visits.

Um I don’t hear Bama fans singing his praises or clamoring to claim him. I guess he ok as an oddsmaker but lately he seems to be an Internet troll that has sprung to life.
Me also thinks without Bama, Saban and our ilk, some blogs would have a lot less to talk about.
Have a great day,

BD, you think Sheridan showed up at the Tuscaloosa Quarterback Club unannounced, or was he invited?

Well, he’s the oddsmaker for USA Today – and I think a UA graduate – so I can see why he was invited. If I had to guess, I would I say he’s been invited for years. Only lately has he taken on the roll of trolling the boogs.
Heck, I hope his rumors are true concerning the barn, but I don’t particularly care for his style. From what I can tell, a lot of other Bama fans don’t either.

I agree with BD. He is a hack. Most Bama fans don’t care what he has to say. It isn’t 2010 anymore, and the Newton story is old news. If anything we hope that the 2010 season will buy Chizik another year

Response from my friends at Auburn: “We are as confused as anybody else. Win the NC, 3 great recruiting years, and now this year. I think it is a combination of a lot of things (very your group, no real senior leaders, changeup of defenses and offenses and coaches fro them, and then one of those deals that when things go bad the players then start thinking it will keep going bad and look for the worst to happen instead of the best and of course play that way and it happens!) And of course the jury is still out on Chizick. The concern of course is that if you fire him, who is out there that you can replace him with(the proverbial “home run” coach like a Saban or Meyer)…and there’s not. The other possibility is an “up and coming coach” but then you are sort of starting over with recruits. So I guess we will just wait and see. As with most schools (at least Ga and AU and others) the true fans stick with them through bad times and good times..” More to follow…(info overload)

“By the way, what is the word on Richt? I sure am hearing a lot of grumbling about him and how he can’t get them to the next level. Sounds like he may have worn out his welcome with some.( ungratefuls there( I just added that in) Back to quote” That would be another tough decision to make and you guys would have the same issues as AU. If you replace him, maybe worse because he still does pretty well each year (kind of like Tupperville did with us.)

This guy’s just a scumbag. If you have the goods on the supposed Newton affair, spill it. If you don’t, then it’s time to move on. And now to sling more rumors around about Auburn and recruiting… if you’ve got the goods, put it out there, and do it on the record. Otherwise, shut your mouth.
