So, you’re telling me there’s a chance.

My favorite division in college football today is the ACC Coastal.  Behold, the power and the glory:

ACC – Coastal W-L PF PA W-L PF PA STRK
Miami (FL) 4-3 231 209 5-5 285 312 L1
Georgia Tech 4-3 278 209 5-5 382 302 W2
Duke 3-3 156 219 6-4 307 326 L2
North Carolina 3-3 216 212 6-4 405 257 L1
Virginia 2-4 141 187 4-6 246 293 W2
Virginia Tech 2-4 146 181 4-6 266 250 L3

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m rooting for Georgia Tech here.  Nothing would please me more than to see a 6-6 team playing for the ACC championship after a season-ending loss to its in state rival.  I imagine the self-rationalization on StingTalk would be epic.

The Jackets are going to need a little help, though.  They’ve got to beat Duke and then hope the Blue Devils take out Miami, since the ‘Canes hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.  That’s a lot to ask out of a mediocre Duke team. But if it happens, it would be Chantastic.

    Epic awesomeness!

The ACC….WHEEL of destiny! Man they all talked so much smack when the ACC expanded about how the ACC would overtake the SEC as the preminent football conference. That subject is pretty much deader than disco at this point.

Not me. I think it would be even funnier for Duke to win the division because, it’s Duke for God’s sakes. It just proves that the entire conference over there is evenly shit.

    Go Devils

That’s called parity, friend. I’m sure our boys are glad they don’t have to go through that meat grinder on a yearly basis.

Another great ACC Coastal fact: half the division is currently on some form of NCAA probation. Miami, GT, and UNC

… and I’ve seen in certain outlets that should the Canes win that thing at 5-3 they still may bow out as sort of a preemptive strike before the NCAA comes calling.

      Just like Jon was kind enough to post down yonder! {.sigh.}

The ACC dog died and the hunt was over when Vandy knocked off Division Champ Boston College in a bowl game a couple of years ago.

Not to mention, reports came out the other day saying Miami may recuse themselves from the ACC Champ (sic) game as more self imposed sanctions stemming from the ongoing investigation to the shenanigans of Shapiro. Would make it even sweeter, if a 6-6 GT lost their div. to a tie-breaker, and was *placed* in the conf. game due to Miami being Miami. Then they could upset FSU or get completely blown out, because either would be hilarious to me at this point. Think about a 7-6 GT getting bypassed for the Orange because they were unranked , or even better, getting to play in the Orange and getting curbstomped by a top 15 team on national tv. Its things like this that make college football so great..

They wouldn’t get bypassed. The BCS rules require the Orange Bowl to take the ACC Champion no matter what. Remember when an 8-3 UConn team got to go to a BCS game a few seasons ago and couldn’t even give a decent game to their opponent? It’s about the $$$ and the conference gets the dough–the ACC Champ has to go and they have to take ‘em.

Defense much? Leading team allows 31 ppg. That’s stupendous.

  9. I am not ashamed to admit it either. I just cannot believe the ACC is so bad or should I say equally yoked. Chantastic :)

In the interest of schadenfraude Schlabach and Edwards over in Bristol have this to say after this weekend – http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls/projections?season=2012&week=11

Schlabach has GTU playing USC(w) in the Sun Bowl, while Edwards has GTU playing USC(e) in the Chic-Fil-A bowl. Here’s rooting for a 6-7 GTU rolling into a ‘home’ game in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve against what would likely be an angry to be there bunch of Gamecocks.
