“Obviously we’re not where we need to be.”

It’s not good when they start pulling out the historical references to put your disappointing season in context.

A loss in the next two weeks would add another historically bad notch in the belt of the program’s recent struggles. Tennessee, its 49 bowl appearances third-most in the country behind only Alabama and Texas, last missed bowl games in consecutive years during a four-year stretch from 1974 to ’78. Those were Bill Battle’s final two and Johnny Majors’ first two seasons as coach, and Tennessee finished with a losing record only once during that drought.

The Vols are teetering on the brink of the program’s fifth losing season in the last eight years, and Tennessee last had three consecutive losing seasons in 1909-11.

That’s pretty sad.  UT is a three-point ‘dog at Vandy tonight, by the way.

  2. Hopefully the Commodores will get their 1st win at home against the Vols since 1982 and the Greek Tragedy that is Vandy football will end. There will be “an unhealthy amount of alcohol consume”. So say my sources.

    Wild Boys….Wild Boys….Wild Boys…Wild Boys!!!!

Somewhere, a shirtless Ed Orgeron is leading teenagers in that very chant this morning.

I have little, if any, sympathy for SOD with his penchant for talking shit about integrity, while aiding and abetting the curb stomping of an off-duty cop, signing a Deon Bonner, only for Deon Bonner to become the Deon Bonner he had proven to be previously and after all that re-instating Deon Bonner. The guy seems to be genuinely full of it on so many levels, not unlike his mentor Nick Saban who, with a straight face, at his post TAMU press conference this past Monday partly blamed the media’s over coverage and hype for the Tide’s loss. This after Nick allowed ESPN All-Access at practice. The guy never misses an opportunity to be in front of a camera or mic, but then complains about media coverage.

It began with the “proper shower detail” and was soon followed by Opportunityisnowhere, bamboo growing, the orange ceramic spaniel dog, and Babs defending her precious on the radio. Along the way player discipline was thrown out. Assistants abandoned the T for job security at other schools. Puerto Rican prom pants because the fall fashion statement for a UT head coach. Then the season’s pressure became so great inducing a stress fracture that required hip surgery. Yes SOD has a golden parachute like a Wall Street banker. He will soon be riding that gravy train out of Knoxvegas on plump cat head biscuits. I can’t help but think he would gladly exchange some of that gold he mined in them hills for a few more Ws and a much more pristine Wiki reference to his tenure. He just was not ready for prime time. The SEC will chew you up and spit you out.

I guess Jeff Dantzler’s soliloquies about what a great hire SOD was, about how he would take Tennessee to the top of the SEC, and would stand a good chance of being Georgia’s next coach missed the mark by a bit.

The SEC certainly chews up, but all of which asks how is The James Franklin Conundrum explained? I chalk a big bunch of the ’12 Commodore success up to some favorable matchups vs. reeling opponents. But still … probably 8-4 rolling into a bowl!

The Hillbillies are getting what they deserve. They’ll fire SOD, breaking their bank in doing so, then hire another ethically challenged mediocre HC. 3 years from now everyone will be saying the same things and that new HC will get fired, also with a golden parachute. Keep it up UT, you deserve what you are doing to yourselves. Stupid.

I never mind seeing a TN team lose conference games. They are down, keep them down. Their arrogant fans are still rationalizing how great they are and how they entitled they are to be good again….BS. Not a Jimmy Franklin fan but I hope Vandy curb stomps SOD and Barbs.

I am not not a James Franklin fan. He has made some monumentally stupid comments, but he is doing his dadgum job and bringing some pride to Vandy…I have to begrudge him some respect for that. And he does seem to love his kids, have a little humility, and be a pretty good sport when he loses…

ps – I also hope Vandy creams Tennessee tonight, because I think losing every week helps Tyler Bray build character.

A grreeaaatt BIG ole boy fell on top of Tyler in the game and he looked thoroughly bounced and trounced. The only beer bottles he will be able to throw thru windshields will be from inside the car.
