Boom goes the Sabanator.

Touché, Will Muschamp.

If Alabama coach Nick Saban doesn’t like the way the Bowl Championship Series is playing out, Florida coach Will Muschamp has a solution.

“Well, I can switch and go to Atlanta if he doesn’t want to go to Atlanta and play the Dawgs,” Muschamp said Monday. “Be careful what you ask for, Nick.”

Really don’t get all the whining from the SEC’s elder statesmen these days.  Which, to his credit, is why I find this Muschamp comment refreshing:

“We knew the rules of engagement when we started the season,” Muschamp said. “I’m not one that’s going to sit there and complain about it. It is what it is. We had our opportunity in Jacksonville, and we didn’t get it done.

“That’s our fault. Nobody else’s.”

Glad to see Muschamp close with that. When I first read his “careful what you wish for” admonition, my thought was, “back atcha, Big Boy.” ‘Cause while it might have required their 6th turnover for us to close it out in Jax, close it out we did. And there’s a big difference in believing you can win and knowing you can.

After the gift of the Magi that Saban got last year to get into the BCS title game, he should shut his mouth. If there ever was a game that meant zilch it was last year’s SEC CG in which the SEC West Runner Up got a bye. Just shut up.

Gift of the (SEC West) Magi:

Saban gives his most treasured shoe lifts to Les Miles for Christmas. Les gives Saban his beloved voodoo stick for Christmas.

The sentimental irony…Les is tall and doesn’t need the shoe lifts and Saban doesn’t have time for that Voodoo shit!

Holy crap. Saban thinks he’s going to lose. Why else would he already be whining about the SEC loser unless he thinks it might be him.

And what is this weird feeling I have for a Florida head coach? I think it’s… respect? Nah, that can’t be it.

Wellllll, let’s not get crazy. Saban doesn’t need any reason to whine. He’s a miserable prick and is only happy if he can be unhappy about something. Go back and look at all the rays of sunshine coming off his face after he won his first national championship at Alabama. The guy clearly knows how to enjoy himself. It could be that he’s so confident that he’s having to go out of his way to find something to be mad about.

I’m just wondering with all the consultants and analysts and Saban’s rep for planning ( ie. the storm and how Saban had conceived of a plan for any delay so that they came back firing on all cylinders so to speak ) …… was there an oversight per that particular event? and not to beat a dead horse, but I LOVE this line from the article:

“The 17-9 loss cost the Gators a berth in the SEC title game and a shot at the national title.”

After the game, Gator Nation tried to pretend it didn’t hurt because they didn’t expect to be unbeaten at that point anyway. BS. Win that game, and you’re in Atlanta and ranked #1 in the country right now over Notre Dame with an excellent shot at beating ‘Bama. Sorry about ruining your championship season, Gators. Payback’s a bitch.

After Jacksonville, I heard that so much. “Oh, well, we were playing with house money at that point, so no big deal.” Maybe so, but now that the guy in the next seat over has cleaned you out and is on the verge of getting comped the President’s Suite, how do you feel?

Isn’t that a wonderful feeling…I take great pride in the fact that not only does Georgia have a chance to accomplish all of its goals, but also that UGA single handedly destroyed Florida’s goals.

Just be glad that USC didn’t beat ND. If that had happened FU already would have a lock on the 2nd spot in the BCSNCG and we still would have to play our way into it. This system in place right now is stupid. At least maybe we can make it work for us this year, though. GATA.

Exact first reaction I had GoDawgs, almost to the word. Maybe he is growing up (except for some still silly sideline antics.) Whatever was responsible for the wisdom, that was a slam dunk in making Little Nicky look even smaller. Saban is acting like a whiney douche, very much like whiney Spurrier. What is it with the coaches with the big reputations? Makes me even happier to have Mark Richt on our sideline.

Too bad Muschamp’s comments likely will not keep ESPN from continuing to ask, “Which team has the biggest gripe about the BCS this year?” … which is apparently code for, “Tell the viewers again why Florida should be playing for another national championship.”

    Guys –
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but
this is just the tip of the iceberg. If this were 2014, the SECCG loser misses out in the 4 team playoff, simply because it has to play an additional game. So the playoff would likely end up with 3 teams (ND, Florida, and Oregon) who only played 12 games, didn’t win their conference, and only one conference winner (SEC Champ).

Bingo. Plus, Kent State may squeeze in and knock out a real team.

If you can ponder the unthinkable for a second, what if Georgia loses Saturday and Florida gets a BCS bid instead? Wouldn’t that sting just a bit?

      Like

      • Boz

Bro, that ship has sailed. Florida is guaranteed a BCS spot by virtue of finishing #3 in the rankings, which is a virtual certainty. Isn’t this the whole point Saban is trying to make?

        • Bryant Denny

You are correct concerning the automatic bid for top four in BCS; I forgot about that.

But my point is still the same. The loser Saturday is out of the BCS. If that happens to be Georgia, it would stink for UF to go to the Sugar ahead of the Dawgs.

I totally understand your point, and it would indeed suck for us this year, but your winning percentage still goes down – yes, you played an extra game that you earned because you are a good team, but a loss ought to have more negative impact than no game at all. Teams fall in the standings when they lose and the teams behind them have bye weeks, same idea.

Not sure that holds water, just a thought. It doesn’t seem quite fair, but frankly because Florida has no chance to win this weekend, it doesn’t seem quite fair to put this weekend’s loser ahead of them, either. I wonder if the Sugar Bowl should simply get one of the teams from the SEC Championship automatically – the winner if they’re not headed for a NC game or the loser.

If it happens to be Alabama, would it stink for UF to go to the Sugar ahead of the Tide?
I think it exceeds olfactory fatigue to lose to Bama. So we should start there. Spanking Clemson in the Peach is certainly not attractive. “It is what it is!”

Well…to be honest, if we lose Saturday, I’ll just slink back in my hole and I won’t really care about Florida, etc.

All this is an interesting argument (no matter who loses on Saturday), but I’m having a hard time getting fired up about it. Give me a month though, and maybe I could get fired up about Kent State.

I agree. The only thing interesting about all this is Bomb MFer coming out ahead of anyone in a public exchange. Saban’s point is certainly valid, his timing sucks, and he is just not the guy to make the argument after last year’s “queerness”, and how close it came to happening again this season.

One wonders if in the 4 team playoff scenario, if Florida would be the 3rd or 4th seed?

The loser of the SECCG would drop out of the top four, imo. (Channeling my inner Saban and inner Muschamp, I am not sure that is entirely fair, but “it is what it is.”) That puts Florida at 3 or 4 in the BCS. But I do not believe the criteria for selecting the four entrants is known as of yet. And I do know the whole concept of BCS rankings seems to be defunct starting in 2014. So the current and future BCS rankings might be a “mute” point in the selection criteria

One further wonders if there would be enough SEC backlash to put Oregon and/or KSU in the top four, to prevent two SEC teams from participating?

Anyway, Muschamp is right. We had our chance against Georgia. Hell, we had multiple chances in that game. We just did not execute at critical moments so we did not earn the right t be the SEC East representative in Atlanta.

Good luck to my friends over here, but I will be lying to you if I said I was rooting for UGA.
