Others receiving votes

My favorite Coaches Poll vote this year comes from Todd Graham.

Arizona State’s Todd Graham and Arkansas State’s Gus Malzahn should lose their voting privileges, immediately and forever.

Graham voted his unranked Sun Devils 20th, even though they went 7-5, lost four of their last six and beat one team with a winning record (Arizona).

He did not vote for USC, which was also 7-5 and beat his team by three touchdowns.

In fact, ASU didn’t receive a single vote in either the AP or Harris polls, and it had just eight points in the Coaches’ poll.

Six of those eight points came from Graham. The other two? From Malzahn, who used to work for Graham.

We already know Graham’s shameless.  At least he’s consistent, though.  (The only thing that would make this situation better is if he’d negotiated a clause in his contract that got him a bonus if ASU received more than 5 points in the last regular season Coaches Poll.  And I wouldn’t put it past Graham to have done that.)

Why not just go all the way and rank them number 1? Nobody can really do anything about it and the system is a joke anyway.

Coach’s Poll is so flawed as a concept that it is hard to even know where to begin ridiculing it. I think I heard it had to be in by 9:00 AM on Sunday morning, just think about that turnaround time, even for coaches based in the Eastern Time Zone. I personally watch games until after 1 AM every Saturday and don’t have to shower, meet the press, or take a flight home. And that is after watching CFB and highlights/analysis for over 12 hours. Add in the bias of regions and friendships and….ugh! Should have been discontinued long ago.

      This.

Oh weird, guy making millions with millions on the line did something within his power and rights under the rules to make himself look better, thus impacting his ability to make millions.

What’s more outrageous to me is that there are 60 (or whatever) other coaches voting and saying with a straight face they aren’t doing this to some degree.

I get the theory behind an informed populace and whatnot, but why not simply give these coaches an extra bunch of hours to swirl the events through their collective heads awhile? Submit the poll votes in the afternoon for the Monday paper.

Lone, you can’t change rotten. They also wait until the end of the season for you to see one set of votes. What plethora of Pome ‘d Rue is happening all during the season on that poll?

James Franklin had the best ballot with ND ranked 4th. Ha! I’m beginning to like that guy more and more (as long as we keep beating ’em).
