The enemy of my enemy… is still Notre Dame.

I know it’s been a rough year on the Plains and I know it’s a bitter rivalry, but if this story is true, some Auburn fans have lost their goddamned minds.

Ignore the game, wish for a meteor to strike the stadium, plan on attending a wedding – anybody’s wedding – that night, that’s all more than fine, but wear a shirt with this logo?

Ugh.  That’s just pathetic.

    Words escape me. Just wow.

  2. timphd

Even though I am tired of the coronation ceremonies for Bama as the “greatest dynasty of all time”, and though I feel the same about Saban, I couldn’t for any reason ever see myself rooting for Notre Dame. That is inconceivable. Can’t imagine any Barners doing it either. You are right Senator, they have lost their minds.

    • Macallanlover

The extreme edge of the Tide fanbase is as intolerable as any in football so I get how the FBomb crowd is making a lot of haters for them. That said, I think I heard yesterday they have lost 7 games in the past five years. If that is true, just wow. Hard to believe in this conference, in this time in CFB, that is impressive enough to consider as a dynasty. Hope we get stronger on rushing defense and strap them on again in Atlanta. Would love to be the team that knocked them off the throne next December. Just have to tip the hat. Damn, four yards away…….

    • Cojones

I rooted for ND in South Bend, not because of their fan intimidation, but because they played GT. If you think that is inconceivable, I question your hate.

Same year saw Purdue play them and rooted (to no avail) for Purdue.

  3. heyberto

Much like Tech fans, nothing gives an Auburn fan something to finally cheer for like pulling against your greatest rival.

    • heyberto

And this takes that to an idiotic level. How embarrassing.

    • JC

      That is very…..Techish…..

      • NO.. that is tacky. No class just rotten and low rent. Most people on the Plains don’t know nuthin about the Fighting Irish. General Dye would not like that so Tech would never do such an asinine thing.

        • AthensHomerDawg

Tacky? Pot Vs Kettle. Unfortunately, I see no difference between those people on the Plains and yourself madame.

Hey Bulldogs,…we just beat the hell out of you! Ramma Jamma Yellow Hamma, give em hell Alabama!”

          • From my Daughter, Alpha Chi at Alabama 5 years. She sent that to me. Sorry is anyone was offended. I was not. She is my Daughter.

            • AthensHomerDawg

Joy… I am gonna try and be polite here. Not a strong point. So here goes. This is a sports blog. GTP> This is not a forum for you to express your “daughters” rah rah per her team . K? This is not FACEBOOK. K? No one is interested in your post per your failed date and the individual who hit on you. K? Nobody wants to pet you. K? I don’t know why you post half the inflated look at me crap on this SPORTS BLOG that you do. There are plenty of smart women that post here. Follow their examples.
I have helped raise a niece that wanders around in some fantasy cloud just like you. It is called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histrionic_personality_disorder
I have a disorder of my own …… Its call LTBST or Low Threshold Bullshit Tolerance. We good. Now take your elephant and pony show somewhere else. You are ridiculous.

      • PTC DAWG

I agree, there are many GT fans would love this.

        • Nate Dawg

Dude, this screams tech. Although happy this past Saturday after our loss(their own game probably of no consequence), there are probably some techies who wish we’d won now so this could be theirs instead of the barns.

  4. JG Shellnutt

    That is…bonkers.

  5. Irishdawg

If we had won Saturday, Tech fans would already be wearing shirts like this.

  6. charlottedawg

I like Bama for the simple fact that Auburn’s their bitch.

  7. Brandon

Wow, queer eye for the Auburn guy.

  8. TennesseeDawg

That shirt would just inspire Alabama to beat Notre Dame 49-0

  9. Boz

The only thing that could have made that better would be to have the hat on backwards waving a towel

  11. Biggus Rickus

If you can’t beat ‘em…um, mashup your logo with their national title game opponent’s? That’s how that goes, right?

  12. Vindex

That’s the Auburn Family for you…the Jukes and Kallikaks of College Football.

  13. Spike

Another sign the apocalypse is indeed upon us.

  14. Bulldog Joe

Haven’t seen this kind of creativity from the Aubs since “Fear the Thumb”.

  15. Objective Bama Fan

I don’t know what happened to Auburn fans over the last 3 or 4 years, but, in my opinion, they have changed. They used to have more class. The Iron Bowl rivalry used to be fierce, but the fans respected the other team. It may be just a new generation of fans that show less respect, or it maybe the result of the actions of a few lunatic fringe fans.

    • Rusty

They sold their souls. I have no pity.

    • Krautdawg

Strangely OBF, I’ve had the same impression. In the 2000 to 2007 years Auburn was my favorite game of the year mostly because the fans were classier than the USC, UT & UF crowds. (Note: I’m a younger fan, so I don’t have the experiences of the 80s & 90s to complain about.)

Then came Cam, and everything changed. Why I don’t know, but I assume the inferiority complex your school outfitted them with has something to do with it.

      • Ben

We’ve been living in Alabama for about 5 years now, and when we moved I had a softer spot for Alabama (beating them three times in a row will do that to you) than I did for Auburn, but then 2008 happened. I hope our folks wouldn’t treat Bama fans the way we were treated it when watching it with some folks around here.

But when Newton got to Auburn and the Auburn family went “all in”, there was a change there, too. And it hasn’t been a good one at all. Like Krautdawg and OBF noted, it’s weird. They’re like a starved tiger backed into a corner. I don’t think that was the intention when Bama hired Saban, but it’s happened. And the folks at Auburn started showing their true opinion of themselves and ran off one of the only guys in the conference who’d been able to beat Saban before (BTW, we’ve got one of them, too).

  16. Ben

When Auburn played Oregon a few years ago, there were so many cars flying Oregon flags and people wearing Oregon gear. These two schools and fan bases really, really don’t like each other.

  17. Bob

I wouldn’t wear that shirt for anything. But I sure as hell could pull for ND and will. I could absolutely care less about anyone else in the SEC and their incredibly boorish fanbase. Bama will likely win, but I would relish them getting their butts handed to them.

    • mwo

True dat! My team is UGA and I don’t give a rat’s ass for any other team in the SEC. I am not an SEC fan, I am a Georgia fan. Cheering for Bama after a loss like Saturday’s seems about the same as telling the guy your girl just dumped you for to have a great time with her. Buck Fama.

      • The Lone Stranger

After rewatching that tragedy from Saturday, I will have to force myself to pull for Notre Dame if for no other reason than all the breaks the Bammers got during the course of the game. I will still get a modicum of satisfaction seeing Lacy truck Te’o hard however.

        • Cojones

“Bring out yer dead”. “Bring out yer dead”.
Lone, whack at me if it helps, but I sincerely want to see you through this grief. Just pile them on the cart and help pull the load to the next fan’s wake.

Rainy Night in Georgia and it’s raining all over the world. That dirge is certainly appropos.

    • Marshall

Obviously the big thing is recruiting. Another title would give Bama three of the last four. That would give them a huge edge. I won’t be actively rooting for ND but I will be pulling against Bama. As others have said, I am not a SEC fan; I am a Georgia fan!

  18. stoopnagle

I’d probably actively root for ND vs. Florida.

And then there is this: http://i.imgur.com/XJeHb.jpg

  19. Russ

Well, along with others here, I did pull for the Soviet Union against Georgia Tech. So I can sort of understand. But we’re talking Notre Dame! My shame would be too much to pull for them.

    • Pulling is one thing. Merging logos is another. I wonder how Uga would look with a hammer and sickle on his chest instead of a “G”. ;)

      • Bob

Senator, I agree. But don’t forget, it was only two years ago that Bama fans were wearing Tee Shirts that had the Oregon Duck yelling Roll Tide. This has been a two way street with these folks.

And there is nothing in the SEC as obnoxious and that displays poor sportsman ship than that classless Rammer Jammer at the end of all their games. Nothing would make me happier than hearing the Victory March as the time ticks to 0:00 in Miami.

      • Russ

        Yeah, good point Senator.

      • 81Dog

it would have looked damn good. Just sayin’. :-)

    • Good Dawg. We have to pull for the SEC TEAM in the National Championship even if it is SC.

      • Comin' Down The Track

Um, no we do not. I was not pulling for Auburn against Oregon. I would not pull for Florida, South Carolina or Tennessee ever against anyone… except for maybe… maybe Notre Dame; and I would not expect that of anyone here either. I, personally, do not do this SEC-or-bust thing. I want the Dawgs or no one.

        • BMan

In all games, no matter what’s on the line, I pull for the team I hate the least. This year, that would be Bama. In 2010, it was Oregon.

          • Comin' Down The Track

That’s me, too, and sometimes that line between hate and hate less is razor thin.
I got a lotta hate in my heart.

      • Peteydawg

That is silly. Sound like a damn kentucky fan, screw every team othe than us in sec. As soon as that game was over all I could think is god I hope ND beats Bama

  20. Ted

It’s better than the SEC circlejerk you’re always proliferating. I’m not a Notre Dame or SEC fan, and it makes infinitely more sense to me to root against your hated rival than to root for your rival, regardless of conference pride.

What’s embarrassing is the teams in the SEC that haven’t ever won shit talking like they’ve done something (and no, I’m not alluding to any one thing).

    • I don’t have a problem with Auburn fans rooting against Alabama. I’d be shocked if they didn’t. I just think this logo merging takes things to an embarrassing level.

As for “SEC circlejerk”, WTF are you talking about?

  21. Bryant Denny

Little brother’s tricks used to be kinda cute but now I just try to ignore whatever he does.

    • AthensHomerDawg

I think both fan bases in Alabama have gotten way over the top. I have tailgated with Bama fans and found them to be courteous. I’m sure that isn’t a universal experience. We all have our fans that we wish would stay home and act a fool there. However, I have to say that in the 90′s the Hillbillies were terrible. Even the waitresses would hassle and deride us.

      • Bryant Denny

The only fights I’ve seen at college football games have involved Bama – UT fans.

One of the reasons I hang out here is that I love talking and reading about college football. I don’t, however, like the religious aspect of it that permeates my beloved state. I read and post at BOL, but I just can’t hang out there very long because everyone seems to lose all perspective.

My all my good buddies are Auburn fans. We hate each others’ teams but we don’t talk trash and try to just talk about football.

        • After the ’82 Georgia-Auburn game, my friend and I went down on the field (those were the days). Best thing I witnessed there was a fight an Auburn fan was having with another Auburn fan.

          • PHDawg

I had no ill feelings towards Alabama until we moved here. In fact, my parents’ best friends lived in Tuscaloosa, so we used to go visit them often when I was young. Their children’s babysitter tutored football players to help pay for law school and we even got to meet some at a party once. Plus, my parents are FSU grads, so my first experience with Bama as an opponent was my senior year of college with the “man enough” game.

Then we moved down here, right as they started to gain in prominence. And spent the blackout game–literally 3 weeks after moving to town–being harassed by a Bama fan wielding a gorilla that played the Alabama fight song. That really planted the seed for the intense dislike I feel for them as a collective fan base now. The day after the game I heard a lot about how gut-wrenching it was, etc, but now the ugliness has started again. I ran into a fellow Georgia grad at the store yesterday and while she and I cried and commiserated together, she told me that she unfriended a friend on FB because they were posting pictures of Uga that made him look dead.

I grew up in Columbus, so I know a fair amount of Auburn grads and fans. I’ve never seen anything like that from any of them.

  22. burt

Fuck the barn. I hate those fuckers and I wouldn’t want them ever pulling for Bama for any reason.
    Bunch of shit fuckers.
I do have to admit that I tried pulling for them this year against LSU but I felt so dirty that I had to stop.

  23. BTC

I live and work in Birmingham. It’s going to be VERY easy to cheer for the Irish – or anyone else who ever plays Alabama. Anyone. Hands down my least favorite team. If they’re not yours, come spend a few days in the ‘ham (which is otherwise a lovely place).

  24. Comin' Down The Track

I finally figured it out. The Senator’s work and we fools in the ensuing comments are the Statler and Waldorf of the SEC blogosphere.

  25. Slaw Dawg

Normally, I don’t particularly give a crap who wins any game if my Dawgs aren’t in it. My attitude is sorta like King Kong’s with Fay Wray–when he sniffed a chick and it wasn’t his woman, he just tossed her from the Empire State Bldg; no malice intended, he just couldn’t be bothered. That said, I admit I rooted lustily for Nebraska when it played Tech for half a national title.

But that logo–Good God, Y’all! Just another reason to hate those nameless cretins on the Plains.

  26. Ben

You know, though, this guy should really be on the lookout around here…

    • AthensHomerDawg

“…..in the Cretin Community…” Perhaps there is some stimulus money under that tree. ;-)
You can’t make this stuff up.

  27. BMan

I ‘d like to see the logo merge Auburn comes up with when Bama plays the ‘Cocks, because that’s pretty much what I’ve thought about Auburn fans since 2010.

  28. Debby Balcer

I am rooting for Bama to blow ND out of the water because if we TCOB we should move up in the polls. If all SEC teams do that then it makes our SOS stronger.
