The enemy of my enemy… is still Notre Dame.

I know it’s been a rough year on the Plains and I know it’s a bitter rivalry, but if this story is true, some Auburn fans have lost their goddamned minds.

Ignore the game, wish for a meteor to strike the stadium, plan on attending a wedding – anybody’s wedding – that night, that’s all more than fine, but wear a shirt with this logo?

Ugh.  That’s just pathetic.

Even though I am tired of the coronation ceremonies for Bama as the “greatest dynasty of all time”, and though I feel the same about Saban, I couldn’t for any reason ever see myself rooting for Notre Dame. That is inconceivable. Can’t imagine any Barners doing it either. You are right Senator, they have lost their minds.

The extreme edge of the Tide fanbase is as intolerable as any in football so I get how the FBomb crowd is making a lot of haters for them. That said, I think I heard yesterday they have lost 7 games in the past five years. If that is true, just wow. Hard to believe in this conference, in this time in CFB, that is impressive enough to consider as a dynasty. Hope we get stronger on rushing defense and strap them on again in Atlanta. Would love to be the team that knocked them off the throne next December. Just have to tip the hat. Damn, four yards away…….

I rooted for ND in South Bend, not because of their fan intimidation, but because they played GT. If you think that is inconceivable, I question your hate.

Same year saw Purdue play them and rooted (to no avail) for Purdue.

I don’t know what happened to Auburn fans over the last 3 or 4 years, but, in my opinion, they have changed. They used to have more class. The Iron Bowl rivalry used to be fierce, but the fans respected the other team. It may be just a new generation of fans that show less respect, or it maybe the result of the actions of a few lunatic fringe fans.

Strangely OBF, I’ve had the same impression. In the 2000 to 2007 years Auburn was my favorite game of the year mostly because the fans were classier than the USC, UT & UF crowds. (Note: I’m a younger fan, so I don’t have the experiences of the 80s & 90s to complain about.)

Then came Cam, and everything changed. Why I don’t know, but I assume the inferiority complex your school outfitted them with has something to do with it.

We’ve been living in Alabama for about 5 years now, and when we moved I had a softer spot for Alabama (beating them three times in a row will do that to you) than I did for Auburn, but then 2008 happened. I hope our folks wouldn’t treat Bama fans the way we were treated it when watching it with some folks around here.

But when Newton got to Auburn and the Auburn family went “all in”, there was a change there, too. And it hasn’t been a good one at all. Like Krautdawg and OBF noted, it’s weird. They’re like a starved tiger backed into a corner. I don’t think that was the intention when Bama hired Saban, but it’s happened. And the folks at Auburn started showing their true opinion of themselves and ran off one of the only guys in the conference who’d been able to beat Saban before (BTW, we’ve got one of them, too).

I wouldn’t wear that shirt for anything. But I sure as hell could pull for ND and will. I could absolutely care less about anyone else in the SEC and their incredibly boorish fanbase. Bama will likely win, but I would relish them getting their butts handed to them.

True dat! My team is UGA and I don’t give a rat’s ass for any other team in the SEC. I am not an SEC fan, I am a Georgia fan. Cheering for Bama after a loss like Saturday’s seems about the same as telling the guy your girl just dumped you for to have a great time with her. Buck Fama.

After rewatching that tragedy from Saturday, I will have to force myself to pull for Notre Dame if for no other reason than all the breaks the Bammers got during the course of the game. I will still get a modicum of satisfaction seeing Lacy truck Te’o hard however.

Senator, I agree. But don’t forget, it was only two years ago that Bama fans were wearing Tee Shirts that had the Oregon Duck yelling Roll Tide. This has been a two way street with these folks.

And there is nothing in the SEC as obnoxious and that displays poor sportsman ship than that classless Rammer Jammer at the end of all their games. Nothing would make me happier than hearing the Victory March as the time ticks to 0:00 in Miami.

It’s better than the SEC circlejerk you’re always proliferating. I’m not a Notre Dame or SEC fan, and it makes infinitely more sense to me to root against your hated rival than to root for your rival, regardless of conference pride.

What’s embarrassing is the teams in the SEC that haven’t ever won shit talking like they’ve done something (and no, I’m not alluding to any one thing).

I think both fan bases in Alabama have gotten way over the top. I have tailgated with Bama fans and found them to be courteous. I’m sure that isn’t a universal experience. We all have our fans that we wish would stay home and act a fool there. However, I have to say that in the 90’s the Hillbillies were terrible. Even the waitresses would hassle and deride us.

The only fights I’ve seen at college football games have involved Bama – UT fans.

One of the reasons I hang out here is that I love talking and reading about college football. I don’t, however, like the religious aspect of it that permeates my beloved state. I read and post at BOL, but I just can’t hang out there very long because everyone seems to lose all perspective.

My all my good buddies are Auburn fans. We hate each others’ teams but we don’t talk trash and try to just talk about football.

I had no ill feelings towards Alabama until we moved here. In fact, my parents’ best friends lived in Tuscaloosa, so we used to go visit them often when I was young. Their children’s babysitter tutored football players to help pay for law school and we even got to meet some at a party once. Plus, my parents are FSU grads, so my first experience with Bama as an opponent was my senior year of college with the “man enough” game.

Then we moved down here, right as they started to gain in prominence. And spent the blackout game–literally 3 weeks after moving to town–being harassed by a Bama fan wielding a gorilla that played the Alabama fight song. That really planted the seed for the intense dislike I feel for them as a collective fan base now. The day after the game I heard a lot about how gut-wrenching it was, etc, but now the ugliness has started again. I ran into a fellow Georgia grad at the store yesterday and while she and I cried and commiserated together, she told me that she unfriended a friend on FB because they were posting pictures of Uga that made him look dead.

I grew up in Columbus, so I know a fair amount of Auburn grads and fans. I’ve never seen anything like that from any of them.
