There’s no substitute for experience.

As you hear about Mike Bobo’s coaching opportunities, you might want to keep in mind that his agent, Russ Campbell, until recently had also been Bobby Petrino’s agent.  Which means that (1) he’s got more time on his hands than he used to and (2) he certainly knows how to spin for a client.

I haven’t heard of any coaching opportunities with Bobo’s name attached. Are there some?

Well he is on a year to year with Georgia. So I would think there is an opp there for him to come back and finish what he started towards that elusive SEC championship.

Mentioned in connection with So Miss, but it sounded more like her was in the second grouping of interviewees.

If your agent has a Petrino in his client base, well, that would be a huge disadvantage when you interview. Those hiring offer two major things…facilities and a solid budget. Petrino had those in hawgland. Now Petrino gets pork rinds along with some Kentucky corn mash. Somebody else is probably cashing the payroll checks.

But into today’s college football coaching market all you need is two major skills. Can you walk the sidelines and scowl. Do not see much experience in Bobo in those two areas. CMR keeps him in a booth so he can limit the calls to the sidelines.

If I be his agent, here is my suggestion. Keep your butt in Athens in view of the fact your job is secure for awhile, you have a great state to recruit in, the facilities and budget in Athens is as good as it gets, and the two most important things…your wife and kids probably do not want to pack, unpack, and hear they have to go through that drill again in a few years when your hire decides to make a change [see coaching history at Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn, Cincinnatti, Colorado…you get the picture].
