What if it’s not about the Jimmies and Joes OR the Xs and Os?

I’m coming around to the position that whichever coach is better able to get his team motivated to play in the Cap One Bowl is going to come out on top.

    This is a pretty big game for us. Win looking good and we will be back in the elite of college football next year with some measure of national respect we have not had since the blackout game in ’08.

    Win ugly or lose and we will be right back where we have been – not able to beat quality teams.

    I think program perceptions matter for a number of reasons and would really like to see curb stomp nebraska to show our performance against ‘bama was not a fluke and we can and should in fact be considered one of the “big boys” instead of one of the “wannabes”.

        Its all about taking a step forward vs. side-ways or back.

          If Nebraska’s a quality team and we beat them, how would that damage the perception that we can’t beat a quality team?

          This narrative or perceptioexists because our own fans keep pushing it.

            But you see, Nebraska is only a quality team of they beat UGA. If UGA beats them there is no way they are a quality team.

          That is a fair observation because perception is so out of proportion to records in CFB, and is usually based on the most recent outings. We have been one of the top programs in CFB for the past decade and that shouldn’t change because an exhibition game played a month after the end of the season. Many fans believe the SECCG proved that UGA was one of the top teams in the nation for the first time in 5 years so a loss, or close game, will set us back going into next season. A decisive win by Georgia and a solid win by Alabama will put us in the top 5 and give us a pretty high ranking for pre-season 2013. Combine that with a good performance against September’s schedule and Georgia will be in the conversation of top programs again. I am concerned about the amount of energy Nebraska will bring to Orlando after getting embarrassed in thier title game, we need to weather a determined Cornhusker team in the 1st half.

    We need to win…period. If we win big that’s better but the Dawgs have been having a problem winning close games. If it’s close I’ll be worried. Just win the game.
