“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

I love this comment:
“No great coach is willing to work under Jimmy Cheek’s ridiculous academic standards”.
Pure comedy gold right there.

And here I thought it was SOD’s hygiene standards that were hampering their recruiting efforts. It’s okay to kick a supine cop in the head, but make sure you’re fresh and clean.

How long until the FIREMARKRICHT crowd also recommends we hire James Franklin…what with Mullen being out of favor now and all?

It’s obvious that there are worse choices. When you get down to it Vanderbilt has more potential for long-term success because most of the HS talent in Tn is over in Memphis…UTK has never had an easy row to hoe in getting recruits to come to East Tennessee.

Meh …. uT has 3 instate kids 1 of them from Memphis. Vandy has 4 all from Memphis. What is interesting is that Vandy has 6 Georgia boys on their commit list. Given the disparity in HS talent between Georgia and Tennessee that is far more telling . imho.

Okay Rip Van Winkle, the fire mark richt meme is outdated. As is the blame it on bobo meme. Can we please develop a new meme?

It isn’t as outdated as you think. If they get off to a slow start against Clemmins, SC, and LSU next year, that meme will be tanned, rested, and ready.

Will anyone look back and realize how silly it was to think that Vandy would actually surpass Tennessee for more than a year or two? Once Tennessee hires a good coach, they’ll be back to being a solid program. They may not reach the heights of the mid-to-late ’90s, but they’ll certainly be better than Vandy. And that’s regardless of what Franklin does. If Franklin jumps to greener pastures, Vandy goes right back to being a bottom-feeder.

Yeah I don’t think the new regime gets it done. They can hang for 3 years and make book on those contracts. I really don’t think anyone has taken a serious look at how uT crafts those documents. I have said it for a while: are there no lawyers/accountants in Knoxvegas. At the end of the day I don’t see uT much different in 2016 than 2009. Imho.

I don’t know about that. UT has to recruit out of state, as AthensHomerDawg pointed in response to my post about Memphis up thread, and Knoxville is not the place out of state recruits are likely to flock to when the competition is so stiff in neighboring states. Vandy may not become a kingpin, but I am skeptical that UT returns to consistent prominence unless they get exactly the right coach– and he stays for quite some time.

When I read that, this came to mind. Mark Fox and the men’s basketball program. Easy to see in Franklin’s first season where he could possibly take Vandy’s program. Vandy and Tennessee passed each this past season going in opposite directions. Thus, UT made a quick change rather than wasting more time. UT is a good school and they have one big stadium. Think I would rather play there than on the Vandy campus. And the rest of the tradition and the facilities.
And Georgia’s basketball program. Is there one in the future? This program maybe like UT under DD. Gone as far as it is going to go. But the AD can ride it out, hope, waste more time, and etc. His former UF employer and mentor probably would not have run the string out this long.
Base rule for me re coaches in D1 programs…three years…they will show you where they are and will be in that time frame. That 3 year record is what they will probably alwasy have on average.
As for Dawgs football…gettem in because the SEC, SEC East, and 2013 schedule is brutal. Get as many top recruits as possible because the SEC East is getting more difficult each year.

Mark Fox won’t play the Atlanta AAU pay for play garbage.
If that’s reason to fire him than let’s go “all in” for college hoops and hire Bruce Pearl or Dave Bliss, no?

From the title of this post, I expected a headline like “Nick Marshall to transfer to Auburn as a QB” or something else crazy like that.
