It’s funny, but I met Kyle King in a professional context within a day or two of reading his blog for the first time. At some point while we were working on a transaction, the subject of Georgia football came up (that’s not nearly as unusual as you might think in my work) and Kyle let on that he was a blogger. I told him that I’d read his work and enjoyed it; he seemed pleased by that and in fact mentioned it on his blog a couple of days later.
It turned out that he was one of the inspirations I had in starting a blog of my own. I figured that if one married, practicing lawyer could start a fan blog centered on Georgia athletics, so could I. I was right, luckily.
It’s a lot of fun getting a blog like this, or one that’s turned into Dawg Sports, going. It’s also a lot of hard work. That’s not what makes fan blogging tough, though. It’s when what you’re doing feels like hard work that you’ve got a problem. So even though I’m not there, I certainly understand where Kyle is coming from with his announcement that he intends to withdraw from blogging in the next few weeks.
I just want to take a moment to thank him for what he’s done and wish him the best on where he’s going.

I don’t know if I’ve ever read a more eloquent writer ever. Dawg Sports is on another level of sports blogging and Kyle King will most definitely be missed. DGD.

I couldn’t stand KK’s writing style. It also doesn’t help the flow of your writing when every 3rd word is a link to another article (who’s every 3rd word is also a link). Senator, please don’t hang up the cleats. After David Hale left, you’re the only decent blogger left. But that’s just my opinion.

FWIW, I don’t feel burnt out. I suspect it’s going to be more a matter of the suits changing the sport so much that I lose my enthusiasm for it. Your guess is as good as mine as to when that happens.

Senator, I cannot fathom how much you put into this….your dedication and regularity are two of the compelling things about this blog.
And I’d like to second that GTP offers insightful, analytical commentary rather than game recaps and updated victory watches. I love you for that distinction. 🙂

If you think all that Kyle King has contributed to Georgia blogging is game recaps and updated victory watches, I think you’re being grossly naive.
Ultimately, I think it’s hard to compare the two sites, and I don’t see any reason to compare them. I appreciate GTP just as much as the next guy, but DawgSports provides a lot that GTP doesn’t (commentary on sports other than football, namely, but also a myriad of other topics), while GTP is often commentary on college football in general, as opposed to just a Bulldogs blog.

Sorry, but naivete is not the issue. Content is. I’ll give on DS covering more sports, but I’ve been there far too often to buy into the claim that what they offer is deep or uniquely insightful.

Well, some folks aren’t fans of Fat Matt’s in Atlanta, but they’ve been in business for years. You don’t run a blog that continues to grow in success for seven years without good content. If it doesn’t fit your liking, though, so be it.

I’m in Hong Kong, so I didn’t get to watch it, but a friend’s status on Facebook referencing being disappointed in his choice of BBQ restaurant to visit lead to a discussion of them, so yes, I was referencing it. Hope to watch it online soon, though I imagine I’ll quarrel with a few of his choices as well (though Fat Matt’s ain’t one of ’em).

Bluto is a DGD that runs a fan friendly site where fans of rival teams feel comfortable enough to drop by and visit. I like the palate cleansers and the mostly mild mannered and quick witted posters that are regulars on GTP. One thing that has always impressed me is how Bluto runs this show by himself. It is part of my routine just like my coffee and checking my inbox in the AM.

After having been a daily reader of both GTP and Dawgsports for years, I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that, for the most part, most folks were either primarily GTP readers who checked out Dawgsports not quite as much, or vice versa. There is, I think, a smaller group of folks, myself included, who check out both equally often and appreciate them both at about the same level. As some have mentioned, they are very different, but they both bring about as much to the table. Regardless, they are, in my opinion, undoubtedly the best two UGA blogs out there. I would venture to guess that a lot of people feel the same way.

Agreed and well said. I also think Mr. Garber provides valuable service, am really starting to like what the Lady is reporting, and do like to check in with Bernie’s and LHB as well, but GTP and Dawgsports are almost daily must reads for me, time willing.

Me too……for almost all statements above. Between now and NSD, there will be a lot to hold Dawg fan’s intrest…but in the bleak days of the offseason, Bluto somehow manages to keep us fed. Thanks for the ticket Phil. “Coach Philly coached at Northside WRHS at the same time Coach Orgel was coaching at Warner Robins. He would later coach wr/special teams at UGa. for “Jimbob (cash only pleez) Donnan”

That is just a great Munson call, thanks. Unfortunately, it brings up the identical mirror image of us against Auburn in 2001. This was CMR’s first year so we all forgave it but I will never forget trying to expain that to my brother-in-law over the phone. He was attending a game on the West Coast and had called to check on the UGA score. It was just about the last 45 seconds so he stayed on the line while I waited to give him the good news. Even as a first year coach it was hard to understand how you would put all your chips on one play when you could have had 3 by throwing first.
is why I laugh at those who think Richt didn’t know what he was doing at the end of the SECCG, he is light years ahead of his ability to manage the clock. You can argue that the games had the same result but the staff evaluated options and a made a deliberate choice for valid reasons this time. I can live with a loss trying to do what you think gives you the best chance to win. We would have a 2 game lead in the Auburn series if we had been thinking at all.

I was glad CSS picked up T. Kyle and Travis’ old Dawg Show for a couple of seasons ..2002-03 or thereabouts. Tip of the hat to T. Kyle for his efforts, and to you for what you do here, Senator. I can actually appreciate what y’all and others put into this after that decade or so doing call-in show reports. 🙂

I like Kyle’s conversational, Grizzardian tone. Shoot, he even looks like Lewis. It is nice to have people blogging about Bulldogs football who are serious about loving it but who do not forget that, at the end of the day, it is only football after all. Kyle and The Senator both are excellent at keeping an even-tempered perspective.
