If Tavarres King were a poll…

Georgia could claim a national title… or something.

“I think we were No. 1,” King said. “Georgia was about to win the SEC championship. The clock just ran out on us.

“I think we were the No. 1 team in the nation. I feel like we could play with anybody on any day at any time, and I feel like we showed that.

“Hats off to Alabama for winning the national title, but I feel like Georgia was right there. I feel like in the years to come, Georgia will be back in that position to win that game.”

The least they could do is display that crystal football in a couple of Georgia Walmarts.

  1. Go Dawgs!

And Alabama was the only game we lost all year!

I swear, our guys don’t realize how stupid they sound when they say stuff like this.

  2. TennesseeDawg

I could see the argument for #2 team but we had 2 losses. This team would have dispatched Notre Dame in the NC as well if we had the chance though.

  3. Debby Balcer

I think the fact the would have beat ND is what he is focusing on.

    • Go Dawgs!

But they didn’t beat Alabama. This is football, not horseshoes or hand grenades.

And they didn’t get close to SC. I have no problem with him thinking this… He needs to be smart enough not to say it to a reporter.

  4. collegeparkdawg

I understand what he is saying and basically agree.

    • Nate Dawg

Well I understand & basically agree we beat ND too, but you can’t say that w/o opening yourself up to huge ridicule. How is it I see that and he doesn’t?

Gee… I am guessing… but don’t quote me. SOMEHOW .. SOMEWAY…. your life experiences ( you have been in the arena) outweighs Mr. King’s. My money is on King but I don’t know why.
        Do you?

Well goodness gracias Hijo de Sancho…. has it come full circle? So the crayon meme is shot and your hue and cry about the big hole that Garner is gonna leave is what???? Not so much? How many recruits did Mr. Thanksgiving Dinner cost us anyway? Still wanna talk about soccer? Start a soccer blog … call it what Jorts and Hominy.

  5. Always Someone Else's Fault

It’s a think line sometimes between positive thinking and delusional thinking – and it varies for all us. I see what he’s saying.

  6. I agree with y’all. Ya can’t blame an athlete for believing in their team and season though. If only they had the perspective of us outsiders that still see a gamecock fan and cringe….

Love our team and would never be a Bammer, but we lost. Period.
I hate it but it’s true. The winning team is the one with the most points AFTER time has run out. Always has been and let’s Keep On Truckin’.
    Go Dawgs!

But the best team DOESN’T always win. Last year’s NC replay should be proof, for starters. Tavarres, a DGD, has expressed what many of us expressed after the Hawaii game. It happens every year and the hot team at the end isn’t always in the NC game although the hot team may be able to whip both. There is certainly no doubt that one of the teams was wrong to be in the NC this year and that we could have possibly embarrassed them further than Bama did.

An 8-team Playoff would certainly encompass all teams capable of being NC. It’s not as easy for the media to shut out a good team they don’t like if a playoff involved only 8 teams.

I thought Alabama was better than LSU long before they dominated them in the national title game last year. As for Georgia this year, Alabama was better. They ran it down Georgia’s throat for much of the game, and if not for a blocked field goal return for a TD, it probably doesn’t come down to the final play. I’m proud of the way they played after those midseason doldrums, and they probably were one of the top three teams in the country this year, but I don’t know how you can compare the situation in 2007 to this year. Georgia lost to Alabama in the final regular season game (or first postseason game, depending on how you look at it).

        • Cosmic Dawg

Yup. Bama was the better team…we could not stop the run – to the point that you wanted Burgess Meredith to jump in and stop the fight.

  8. US Eagle

He only said it because it’s true!

Don’t see what the problem is with this. He didn’t say that UGA deserved to be the national champ. He said he thinks UGA is the best team in the country. It’s clear that they’re right there with Bama and if they played 10 times, UGA would probably win 4 or 5 .

This argument can, and has been, held every single season. Sometimes the arguments are more heated, and involve several teams, but being “the best” is different from being the NC, earned or otherwise. Anyone who thinks this type discussion will disappear once we have a playoff, regardless of size, is fooling themselves. But, we can agree on who the “champ” is. We accept that every March in basketball, and through out the year in other NCAA and professional sports. Few think the Giants the best because of their last Super Bowl win, but they have the title, and the respect that goes with it. It isn’t unanimous but it wa earned according to the rules that prevailed. Then there is the “who was best on that one night” argument that means you can challenge anyone’s legiimacy about who was “the best”, and you can do so every year.

For my money, Alabama was the better team this year compared to UGA, but it doesn’t mean we couldn’t have beat them six times out of ten. Anything can happen in a specific game, and it doesn’t necessarily repeat itself in any sequence. The finish on Dec 1 in Atlanta had to be frustrating for the team, who came so close to achieving their dream, so you can understand where TK is coming from but Bama was better. Give me two chances with Murray and his receiving corps from the eight yard line and we will win 7-8 times out of ten, imo. Bama may have been the better team, but that last 15 seconds was very lucky for them…and they know it. The upset was there for the taking. Their LB made a big play and they got a very fortunate deflection.

  13. Uglydawg

    TK’s dillusion isn’t as remarkable as Granny’s and Corso’s…were.

  14. Gravidy

The “number one” team in the country does not get the HELL beaten out of it by South Effin Carolina. I love you, TK. You’re a DGD, and I’ll cut you some slack because you’re young and were just sticking up for your team. But that just sounded silly. If a Texas A&M player said this, we would all be howling about how silly it was. The fact that it was one of our guys who said it doesn’t make it any less silly.
