Envy and jealousy: meet the NCAA, “the baggy-pants clowns of Inner Authoritarian Dinner Theater”

I’m not sure you’ll read a better one-sentence summary of the NCAA’s debacle concerning the Miami investigation than this one from Mr. Pierce“In the course of investigating Nevin Shapiro, the NCAA indicted itself.”

True ‘dat.

College athletics as an institution needs to rid rid itself of the NCAA, a morally bankrupt entity with the sole purpose of justifying its own existence permeating everything it does, and which debases everything it touches. Be gone Mark Emmert and all your worthless minions. We have seen what is wrong with collegiate sports and it is—YOU.

Miami should give the self-indicting NCAA a lip-dub divorce proposal

How did you make it past the first paragraph of that Grantland POS? Grantland is absolutely horrible, and that article is one of the worst I’ve seen. It’s Malcolm Gladwell’esque truisms passed off as brilliant social meta-commentary, usually lacking in any original details or data. Entire paragraphs are in parentheses, just to make sure that you, the reader, slash audience member at snake oil sales show, know just how truly privileged you are to be privy to Esquire’s politics blogger’s (?) smarmy thoughts on the NCAA.

For some reason, it reminded me of Billy Madison.

I award [Grantland] no points. And may God have mercy on [Bill Simmons’] soul.

He does have a talent (however) for recognizing irony

“Joseph Wilson, the diplomat who’d fashioned his own hangman’s noose back in 1991 to defy Saddam Hussein, was sent to Niger to check out the story. He came back and reported that it was all moonshine. It got thrown into the case for war anyway and Wilson wrote an op-ed in the New York Times. The second Bush administration responded by outing Wilson’s wife, a veteran CIA operative named Valerie Plame. History, as I said, has an underappreciated gift for irony.”
