I see the good senator is an A&M grad. You’d think with their record against Texas, they’d be happy to let the game go. They join the SEC and get a great QB and they’re cocky all of a sudden, ready to take on the world. hilarious.

Until this last year, the eyes of Texas were truly on that game. Texas was cut a lucky break this last year and I hope they resurrect the game soon so that the Horns play Manziel. Right now Texas could use the publicity boost because that game’s tradition is not the only thing they lost with last year’s omission. Texas is the one looking for prestige now, not A&M.

Yeah, well, the assumption is only valid from this here side of the Mississippi….I spec if you a A&M-type person, deep in your Aggie soul, you still think Texas is the great Satan….and thus the converse.
Course if by playing Texas, A&M would not be on Georgia’s radar while Johnny is there it would be fine with me.

TAMU has momentum, SEC $$$, expanding stadium to over 100k capacity, Kevin Sumlin….don’t think I’d chalk this up as temporary.

Political Wankery aside, the people that live in that region deserve this game. I’d be pissed if I was an alum of one of these schools and A&M’s bolt to the SEC messed up a longstanding rivalry. Georgia, Florida and USC all play non-conference rivalry games\and none of us would give up their respective rivalry game, playoff implications aside.

I’ll bet if Alabama created their own tv network that screwed all over you, you would have a differing opinion. Texas/ESPN created that problem, not A&M. I think you are missing a little relevant history that led up to A&M’s admission to the SEC.

My wife is a Texas grad and even she can see it’s just the Longhorns being petty. There’s no good reason the game can’t still be played. Just stupid pride on UT’s side.
As a college football fan, I hate to lose these games. These are the games that separate CFB from the NFL (in a good way).

Or, UT is angling for the money. UT’s AD is a bottom-line operation. They may just be obstinate so it’s more than worth their while.

I’m not sure how I would feel if conference realignment took away the annual Tech game for us.
I’m also not sure how I would feel if a couple of years later, a Tech alum proposed legislation that forced Georgia and Tech to play annually, particularly if it was in a brief moment when Tech was stronger than UGA (I know, it’s hard to imagine that).

Not everything a politician does is bad. I doubt this sort of measure will pass into law, but good for this guy for trying. There is no reason at all that Texas and the Aggies shouldn’t play every year. Panties got in a bunch on both sides, but it’s time to put that garbage aside and play the damn game.
And if it costs either team a shot at a playoff, then that team likely would have lost in the playoff anyway. I have zero respect for McGarity-style cowardice in scheduling.

I hate to say this, but I think this sort of thing will actually HELP playoff expansion in the future. There is no place for government to intervene in football schedules, but that won’t stop them. The truth of the matter is, the fan bases for both schools are overwhelmingly in favor of restoring the rivalry, so it may have more support in the end than anticipated. When the specter of losing a potential playoff berth to one or both of these teams does become an issue, the answer will be an outcry for an expanded playoff that would not “punish” the loser in this storied rivalry. This will lead to playoff creep.

We didn’t even have playoff this year, and I read countless articles about how unfair the 4 team playoff would have been. There is often no difference between 4 and 5; 8 and 9; or 16 and 17. Except the team that gets left out gets to complain.
Since everyone wants a 7 game home schedule, will the money from an expanded playoff-I think it will get to 16 teams eventually-be enough to make up for any loss in revenue? And Once it goes to 8 teams, they’ll have play at teams’ stadiums, right? We can’t play that many neutral site games, can we?

O fcourse there is a difference between 4 and 5, and 8 and nine, it is a matter of representation of the major conference champs instead of some drunken hack, or computer nerd telling them they are not worthy. Big difference, if they are not worthy, they will be dismissed. A four team playoff does not include all contenders with a legit complaint, an 8 team playoff does. The four team is just a little better than what we have, but it doesn’t solve the base issue. When we get expansion it will not be because expansion is inevitable, it will be because the decision was half assed. Only one delusional fanbase cares about 8 or 9, and 16 or 17, but anyone who sa real National Champ wants the major conferences to be represented, that takes away their right to bitch. Sure some still will, but they are barking at the moon. Eight is enough, then we can all fight to oppose expansion and have a strong case.
Thta isn’t the real issue here though, A&M should have left the Big 12, the blame for this was all on Texas and the other wimpy scholls who let them walk all over them. Texas is a lot like tosu and Meechigan, all hat, no cattle. A&M is every bit the school Texas is, with grand football traditions. Texas is just a bully that needed their nose blooded and A&M did it. Good for them. I know many of their fans still want to play, and they should have in this year’s Cotten Bowl, but over time like UGA and GT they should only play every few years. At least A&M left for a good reason, GT just left because they were greedy…and stupid. Dodd made a huge mistake ans ruined GT football. What a tool he has been shown to be. UGA should only play them at our place, maybe every four years, just like Ga Southern.
