Admittedly, it’s a long way from Miami to Fayetteville. But I guess he can always wait her out until his 18th birthday.
The sad part is that evidently he hasn’t lived with the woman for a while.

NCAA rules require signature of parent or guardian of anyone under 21 to make it legally binding.

Otherwise, a player must go through an approval process and get permission from the National Letter of Intent office before signing without a parent or guardian.

Can he be emancipated since he does not live with her? I don’t understand how it is 21 when the schools can’t even share their grades with you without the student’s permission.

It’s my understanding that the coach is his legal guardian.
If that’s true, couldn’t the coach sign the LOI and stop all the silliness?

He is living with his HS coach, and my guess is the coaches signature would probably suffice. The AD of the HS just announced that the family needed more time to resolve the situation.

The story said he is living with his coach. It didn’t say the coach is his guardian. I would be surprised if he was.

Btw, a guardian who signs in replace of a parent cannot be a coach or athletics administrator. There is a rule prohibiting that. So even if his coach was his legal guardian, the coach would be unable to sign. Just read this on NLI website.

21 is age requirement. They upped the age requirement a few years back due to parent complaints about pressure on h.s. kids.

What’s interesting is that a player is not required to even sign a LOI. Collins could simply enroll and that would be the end of it. Collins could still be given the same full scholarship. One option for Collins is just to skip the LOI process and go to ARK anyway. A LOI is just to make the one year scholarship binding on the school and binding on the player and also stop recruitment by other schools. As long as player is not enrolled and has not signed LOI, he can be recruited by other schools.

Where is the young man’s father? Why has mother, son, and coach / recruiting rep not already resolved this prior to today? Make a decision. Generally your first, is the best. But national signing day has become a joke. Think not then go to some of the sites and see the postings. It is all about the number of stars, flipping, why did they not sign him rather than them, and etc.
Bet everybody is a little shocked by Ole Miss. But not if you had been watching their staff and season. But they had better recruit better, because they are in a division where you ass can get chewed up in 2 – 3 games…out of the SECGC and the BCS. Wonder how many of those moms and sons look a little further down the road. Which brings me to this.
UGA position coaches. If I had a talented son on the D side. Well Todd Grantham is going to get a long look. Like the hedges but I like the “coach” and where he can put my son on the “money” side. Think Grantham can do that. Has a history in D1 and the NFL. Some of the things he does in a college game is right there with all these offensive guru’s.
Will Friend. Has the D1experience as a player and as a coach. Knows what a lineman should do. Has brought the one of the biggest missing puzzles in the Dawgs program back. A damn SEC champion caliber O line.
Those guys in state who did not see that and went elsewhere. Best to you. But a lot of time moms and sons do not see what they think they see…or hear.
Now CMR is getting his numbers up. You have to have a ROSTER!!!! About damn time…and lost and wasted.

I don’t know about anybody else but I for one am getting a little tired of seeing Matt Stewart on CSS interviewing a top player from the State of Georgia who has just signed with an out of state SEC school. What happened to the vaunted “fence” that was being built around this state where all the best players from here were going to stay in-state and play at UGA?

We lost out on so many 4 star players that live close to Athens: Players from Norcross, Grayson, Central Gwinnett, Snellville, Mill Creek, South Gwinnett and Tucker. If we could just build a fence around Gwinnett County… just give me that I would not even care about losing the half dozen or so 4 star players from Alpharetta, Walton, and Milton and Marietta.

Could be a lot of these kids want to put some distance between school and home. That would be a big goal of mine at 18.
I heard a statistic on the radio yesterday…60% of the people living in the ATL area are from other places…they didn’t grow up with allegiances to UGA (and GT) that most of us did. They are not going to be loyal to the old state school. ATL…and especially Gwinnett..is a phenom that is unique in the Deep South.
.Also, these 5 star kids get so much attention that they become addicted to it. That is why NSD has become a big game for attention seeking 5 stars. “Flipping” and holding out until the last minute is a guise to get attention.
It’s not that way at LSU, and at ‘Bama. Birmingham is in the center of the State, right up against Tuscaloosa..and they play in both places. They get who they want in their states.
In Georgia, the ATL area has no “fence”…Columbus is close to Auburn, August is on the SC line, and Valdosta/Lowndes/Camden lie on the Florida border. So while being rich in talent, this state is unique in it’s geography and demographics, setting things up for outside raiding.
But Georgia still got an excellent recruiting class.
