Mark Richt has lost control of Mark Bradley.

Shorter Mark Bradley:  Although Alec Ogletree left for the NFL draft over a month ago and was arrested for driving under the influence hundreds of miles away from Athens, Georgia, it’s clear that the fault for this lies with his college program.

Verbatim Mark Bradley:  “Welcome to UGA, home of the football program in which apparently nobody pays attention.”

I think Bradley and his ilk are doing this because they love to get us riled up, because there is no way a guy like Bradley can be THAT stupid……. Right?

Next in his continuing series of writings that brighten each day for Mark Richt, Bark Madly will ask Junior Pat Dye whether Ogletree is now or ever has been Driving Mudcat’s Car

  5. We, as a fan base, need to stop giving Bradley and Carvell extra exposure. Stop paying attention to them.

I don’t think Mark Bradley was trying to lay blame with UGA’s coaches; I think instead he was pointing out that, given the abundance of disciplinary issues, especially with those about to enter the NFL Draft, many players appear not to learn from those who have gone before them. I don’t believe he was trying to single out Richt or any other person/institution at UGA.

Can someone please show me in the annals of human history where any group of humans has learned from those that have gone before them…? Why, again, do we expect more from 21 year olds that play football?

Oh right…we don’t. But it sure is fun to write and talk about! Yay tabloids!

Because AO is a football player who’s college career was at Georgia? Listen I like to hate on the AJC as much as the next guy but I don’t see here where Bradley’s blaming Richt, the coaches, or the program. The message seems to be: you kids need to pay attention and learn from the mistakes of your previous teammates who cost themselves $$$, don’t do stupid shit before the draft! The “nobody” in his quote is UGA players preparing for the NFL, not the coaches.

A fair point. Bradley and all the other writers at the Ajc are no doubt tasked with generating page views. To that end, he definitely was stirring the pot by referring to “yet another uga product.”

A more sensible article (that would generate fewer page views, no doubt) would be to say yet another athlete failed to learn from athletes at any school whose off the field issues potentially cost them thousands of dollars based on their draft position. But again, it does always go back to page views.

    • I read it that way too, Tyler. Because he used those words in the context of the fact that he “had been confronted with two clanging examples of what can happen if you besmirch your resume before the draft.”

Don’t brand me a Mark Bradley apologist, please.

Bradley is an idiot on multiple counts.

First, implying that the DUI is somehow linked to the school is dumb.
Second, implying that Houston and Charles slid because of a drug test or a DUI test instead of a poor showing at the combine is even dumber.

I guess you could go the Tech route, right? I mean you have a WRs that fails a drug test at the combine (Calvin Johnson) and then you stop recruiting good wide receivers…

Let’s see…Ohio State, Va Tech, GA Tech, Arizona State, Southern Cal, Florida (Percy Harvin), UNC, Iowa…all had players that failed drug tests at the combine. And I seem to remember Justin Blackmon getting pinched for DUI in 2010 and doing ok in the draft.

    Owner: You’re fired, coach.
Coach: But at least we didn’t draft the pot smoker or the guy with the DUI.
Owner: (who probably smoked in college and has gotten pinched for multiple DUI’s or worse…)….crickets….

Bradley is a journalism major. That says it all. I disliked those guys when I was on campus. The AJC stopped being a paper in the southern part of the state of Georgia a long time ago. I do not even know of anyone who gets.

Of more interest to me at this time of the season are the Diamond Dawgs. In their season opener they dropped 2 out of 3 in Statesboro to Georgia Southern. Not good. For some reason I am getting that feeling again that mayber Perno is no longer the guy to be the coach. His program has struggled a lot since they left Omaha a few years back. All the while Vandy, Kentucky, Florida, and South Carolina are solid teams with solid records over that time. They have moved forward while Perno has regressed.

So what in the hell has happened? Players? Coach? Staff? AD not interested? For sure they let the facility do. The talent of players in this state should make UGA a top 10 – 15 every year.

Early in the season, but this was not a good start, and not the start you want to make if you are trying to turn things around.

I heard Perno had some personel issues that may have been a distraction last year, and the AD was aware of those and willing to give him one more year. I think he should have been canned last year for several questionable line-ups he fielded on multiple occassions. Dropping two to GSU was not good.

      Will dislikes journalism majors
Perno “dropped 2 out of 3 in Statesboro” giving Will the blues
Therefore Perno must be a journalism major.

On the other hand, it wasn’t too long ago that he was getting us to Omaha every even or odd numbered year

    • Hey, hey, EASY on the journalism-major stuff. I was a journalism major before I went to law school – also at Georgia. The law school easily beats the J-school for assholery. You know, since we’re casting aspersions, and all.

And at least mine are self-depricating, WT.

I guess we should have been recruiting more solid citizens like Tech does. Like, say, Reuben Houston.

The AJC is full of mensas who couldn’t jump the gun faster on supporting Urban Meyer’s decision to do nothing about Young Master Christopher Rainey’s antics. Thankfully, Rainey reformed himself.

Haha oh wait, he did nothing of the sort: http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/2013/1/10/3862100/chris-rainey-arrested-waived-pittsburgh-steelers
