Remember when it was a sign that Georgia’s coaching staff was mediocre because none of the assistants received job offers from other programs/teams?  Good times.

    I like em fine. But I would like em better if it had been Bama that interviewed Ball. Hell, I am afraid to go to the post office, I might have a letter from Butch Jones. 🙂

      UGA surely did score a lot of TDs and rolled up tons and tons of yards to have an OC that sucked. What OC out there, who doesn’t suck (in your opinion), had better results?

        Not being Juan to jump into the middle of the ring for the start of a Saturday morning firefight involving steel metal chairs may I recommend a couple of pieces of lite reading that may or may not provide the names of a plethora of OC’s who don’t suck (in someone’s opinion), had better results, and who deserve less blame than Bobo who is too busy being fabulous and therefore like Nick does not have time to read the internets

    I’d say the jury is still out on this one. I’d be interested in reading who the Senator and my fellow blog commenters consider the most successful since leaving? The two probable best, BVG and Belin, haven’t set the world on fire since leaving. It seems most have had some extra money, but their ‘coaching’ success seems limited.

      Unless of course, you consider that ‘Dead to Us’ Kirby Smart guy who was a UGA RB coach & has a couple three crystal footballs to his name and makes more than Grantham…

          RBs are born, not really coached. You can teach them schemes, and some technique, but most of it is natural. But he’s a helluva recruiter, and that works at RB coach. The sad thing is, if I’m not mistaken, we went with Jancek as the defensive hire instead of him.

            Great running-backs are born and not made. There is that cliche again. And you are probably right. A natural running back can transfer it from college to the NFL ….. game day on time on delivery. You got to have the look and the instincts. College running backs may have the athleticism and rough skill set to separate themselves from herd but the NFL will decide if you are Terrell Davis or Knowshon Moreno. And that is what a good college RB coach can bring out in a player. Can he max you out in college and get the most for his team and let the natural ability test settle once a RB is in the NFL? Do we agree that Terrell Davis never got the attention support he deserved at Georgia. Mike Bobo said as much. Point being is Smart is a born D coach. Why were we messing with that at Georgia with his hire?

    Also isn’t the rb coach usually the “lowest” position on most staffs? I thought they usually got paid the least. Not to day that a rb coach at ut would or would not be paid more then the wr coach at UGA, but it would be starting all over again with a new coaching staff on an at best lateral move. Unless he was unhappy here, then I don’t see much reason why he would leave UGA.

    How much was UT offering? Because positional coach there vs. positional coach here, is a lateral move at best, and that’s before considering how much better and successful our program is vs. theirs.

    Kind of off topic but why have rb coaching recievers and wr coaching rbs? Not saying McClendon isn’t doing a great job but shouldn’t Ball and McClendon switch positions. I admit i don’t know enough to pass judgement but from the outside it looks odd.
