Your glass half-empty/half-full post of the day

This is sort of a follow-up to a post of mine from yesterday:

Now contrast that with something Matt Hayes writes:

Mark Richt, Georgia: A measly tipped ball. That’s how close Georgia was to beating Alabama in last year’s SEC Championship Game and playing Notre Dame for the national title (I think we all know what would’ve happened there). For the third time in his coaching career (2002, 2007, 2012), Richt had a team that was playing as well or better than anyone in the nation, and had no national title to show for it.

Manti Teo would’ve been abused by Todd Gurley instead of Eddy Lacy.

Well, according to the data we are on a five year cycle for being close to a MNC. So here’s to 2017 being our year!

The worst part is that in two of those years (2007 and 2012) we would have easily hammered the team we would have faced in the NCG. Oh well. We still would’ve had to beat LSU in the SECCG in 2007 though, which I don’t think would have been an easy task. Possible and maybe even probable, but by no means a guarantee.

I think we would have beaten LSU. At that time, Dorsey was out or severely hobbled due to some leg injury.

If only we scored a TD against SCAR…

Keep in mind that LSU was playing pretty crummy ball at that point in the season and had to start Perrrilllouxx under center.

Moreno had 6.0 ypc vs. the Cocks that year, and only 12 or so carries.

Yep. Those who long for the days of cmr calling plays should go back and look at that game. Stafford was 19 of 45 that night if I recall correctly.

That was Bobo calling plays, albeit in his 4th game as OC. If I recall correctly, he admitted after the game that he stuck with the off-tackle run for far too long.

If I recall correctly, Ainge making 2 HORRIBLE throws was the only thing keeping THEM from beating LSU that day.

Judging by how we were playing and how well UT stayed in the game… I’d given us good odds.

In 2002 and 2007, I’d say those years were bad luck b/c we were good enough to play for the BCSCG, but we weren’t in control of our own destiny.

In 2012, we just got outplayed (barely) by Bama, and there’s no shame in that. If anything, we were really lucky last season w/ the meltdowns by higher-ranked teams in the final weeks of the season.

Absolutely, fans that are unhappy with UGA football this century are just looking for something to be miserable about. And honestly, that is true for many people. Read once about a guy who hit a lottery over $100MM and his comment (after quitting his job and finding out he his family had grown exponentially) was to mention he had to split it with another winning ticket holder. Bottomline is some folks just want to bitch their entire lives, that’s how they approach and view life.

The last thing I want you guys to do is fire Richt. Quality guy, guality coach. If he never ever goes undefeated / wins BCS / wins other MNC / etc. that won’t diminish what he has done at UGA in my eyes.

In the eyes of fools, the only measure of success for a school, program, coach is binary in football championships.

Even worse is the application of the same measure to other individuals according to only whether they cheer for same.

2013…barring injury, Gurley is going to be the best back we’ve seen since HW. Murray, as an already accomplished senior, is going to be the best QB we’ve seen at Georgia….maybe ever…I would not like to be a defensive coordinator facing this offense. If the defense can be, as I believe Mac says it will…a C+ ..(I think it will be at least a solid B) anything is possible…but so many, many things have to go right.. Special teams and injuries come to mind…but Georgia actually has some depth, even at QB and RB to make this a great, great, great year! If we come out of death valley with a win, these Dawgs will be barkin’. UGA…get to lickin’ those nuts!

When I say AM may be the best QB ever at Georgia.I realize it’s a very arguable statement. But consider that I’m talking the whole package. There have been stronger arms (Zier, Stafford) and more mobile guys (Tarkenton, Jackson…yes I’m that old, but I mostly remember FT as a pro) and guys who could inspire (Belue,Greene), but none I can think of that were as polished and rounded as I believe (and pray) Aaron Murray will be this year. Plus, AM has been right to the very edge of accomplishing everything and he knows what it’s going to take.

Everybody needs to read the linked article by Matt Hayes. The quality of HCs in the SEC-top to bottom-is amazing.

The great thing about college football is that every year is a blank slate. Last year was great for the fans, with the “What Could Have Been…” ending. Murray and the offense should make for a good to great season in 2013. But it’s a little early to anoint him as king and UGA as BCS champs. Just being in the hunt again, beating Florida and, damn it, Spurrier, is enough to keep me going.

Agreed, but from what I’m reading on this blog, if UGA looses a game, it will have a more understanding fan base this year that seems to be up on what it takes in the CFB world, moreso than in the last couple of years. That alone is worthwhile for what we have differed here concerning coaches.
