Get The Picture 
J.J. Green’s size (5′ 8″ 170) makes him a tough fit at any position. It would scare me to see him at corner even if he is a “tough nut”. He’s not going to get many jump balls at wide reciever. I think he falls into the tailback position by default..and he might be a pretty good one in some situations. Maybe he can return punts and kickoffs…I wonder how he is in an open field situation. It will be interesting and fun to see how and where he develops and I’m hoping for the best for him.

Seriously though, if he’s quick enough he can work pretty well in a specific role until he gets thicker, stronger. And that size wouldn’t hurt at CB either. College QBs aren’t exactly perfect at pinpointing jump balls, and how big of a problem was that with less than 5’10 guys like Tim Wansley, Tim Jennings, Bruce Thornton, Asher Allen, etc.

UC offense scores too fast…..
The last thing University of Cincinnati football coach Brian Kelly wants to do is put the brakes on quarterback Tony Pike and his powerful offense.
But Kelly has a quandary on his hands. For the past two weeks, the UC defense has spent an inordinate amount of time on the field, not because of the offense’s ineptitude but because of its efficiency.
The Bearcats rank third in the nation with an average of 42.0 points per game, but there are times when they score too fast for their own good. They’ve averaged only 6.8 plays and 2:25 per scoring drive.
“We want to score quickly,” Kelly said, “but we also have to be cognizant of the fact that playing 86, 87 plays on defense is probably not the best thing.”

Being cognizant of how many plays your D has on the field from a coach who is worried that his D is so bad that it can be outscored and lose a game is not an answer to the question. It is specious at best.
When a team has scored enough to win the game, how do they drag out their possession times to benefit their own D? Running plays only? and tell the RBs not to run hard? Don’t think so. If the opposing D gives up and lets you score then you don’t control how long your O is on the field before the D has to come back in unless you ask your O players to drag around and have NFL-desiring players look like crap.
How exactly would you script an offense to prevent your sorry D from being on the field? You have D players who are not in good enough condition to weather 4 qtrs? Where exactly does the offense take responsibility for that?
So far no one has looked at game stats to confirm that the D loses many yards during qtrs when they should be rested enough to make it to halftime. Other teams don’t suddenly pile up points enough to win games in the 4th qtr when the D is supposedly tired. Our 4th qtr D stats are probably better than the 2nd and 3rd qtrs. You should look into it. The stats pretty much dumb down the specious argument that the O is responsible for the D’s downfall.
Since you aren’t smoking a spleef, what the hell are you on? Bipolar medication doesn’t count since you would be responsible for the dosage. But with your thinking, you probably blame it on my pot smoking.

I think UGA’s doing a good job of using tempo, not just increasing it. Speeding up at times (ie. the beginning of the game and when they smell blood in the water) and slowing it down at others (ie. when they have a big lead). When you manage to score from 50+ yards out or in 3-5 play drives, increasing tempo just means your defense never catches a break.

Why is everyone trying to speed up the tempo when the team and conference winning the most lately is the slowest? Like the article mentioned, “last in tempo and last in losing.” That applies to both Bama and the SEC.

I like the aerial attack approach supplemented by a strong ground game. If we were built for grinding it out, like Alabama, LSU and Florida, sure do it that way and have good defensive stats. But CMR does not build a team that way either here or when he was a bombs-away OC at FSU. What made me see the light was that we gave up 350 on the ground but were one play away. I am aboard the quick-strike magical bus.

Long slow drives let your defense catch their breath. It’s really hard to imagine that sometimes it’s better to grind it out even if the easy score is out there begging to be had. But a score with a rested defense will hold up better than a score with a still winded defense going right back onto the field. That was at least some of the reason the defense was weary in the fourth qtr. in some games.

But , by far, not the main reason. Look at 4th qtr yards gained against our D on the ground vs other qtrs. It gets to be an eyeopener, especially in the SECCG where it was used as an excuse. Not! Most yds were gained prior to halftime or immediately afterwards when they shouldn’t have been “tired”.

I like the vegetable names and what they bring to the table. Ex: The Carrots – “our team plays like red-headed stepchildren except we do the beating” . How about the Beet-O’Brady Bowl? “A spare the grass team” could apply to a coonass coach we know . JJ Green would play for the “Turnips” because he has the mustard. “Okra and tomatoes” could represent both team and cheerleaders. “Our Beans will cut YOU” for Paul’s team slogan. “Our Jalapenos will burn your ass”….
