If you’re wondering how FSU, which supposedly looked for a way out of the ACC for a while, signed on to that shiny new grant of media rights, remember that it always takes two to tango:
Since that time, Barron and FSU officials apparently have done just that, including exploring the possibility of joining the likes of Florida, Alabama and LSU in the SEC.
While it’s difficult to confirm how far those talks advanced, FSU officials came away with the understanding that the SEC saw little financial incentive to adding the Seminoles. Bringing on FSU would neither expand television markets nor open recruiting territories.
Just because you’re willing to go to bed with somebody doesn’t mean your partner will accept. At least not if he or she is sober. Or, if you prefer it stated in more commercial terms, you’re not offering enough to make it worth somebody’s while.
Get The Picture 
It would also give FSU an SEC label that would hurt SEC recruiting further down the road. FSU doesn’t need anymore help in recruiting in So Georgia where we now are making inroads into their recruiting base.

I never understood why so many fans kept calling Clemson and FSU as natural fits for expansion. They bring absolutely nothing to the table, and neither adds anything to the pie. If expansion ever happens, it’s either up the east coast (an NC school or VA school) or towards the west (Oklahoma).

Miami is practically in a different time zone, how far down it is in FL and it being an entirely different media market.
The Hurricanes would definitely lead a race to the bottom versus the Auburns of the world too… not sure why they haven’t been more of a leading contender!

I will always gladly put the F in FSU. They had their opportunity years ago and ditched to go play in the ACC because Bobbah was afraid to run with the big dogs. The majority of SEC fans I knew wanted them in the SEC.

Bobby and FSU did not turn down the SEC, it was the other way around. The SEC was loaded at the time with Florida, Bama and Tennessee. The SEC coaches voted against the ‘Noles entering the conference.

While Mr. SEC is filled with knowledge, my info comes from Bobby Bowden. I have heard him state that FSU was rejected by the SEC on multiple occassions. I think I will go with Bowden over Mr. SEC on this on.

BB is covering the yellow on his arse, he didn’t want any part of taking the tough road. And he was right, made a great living winning all ACC contests in the beginning. Easy money if you can get it. Now he pretends he really wanted to play with the Big Dawgs, smells to me. I like Bobby as a character and a personality but he isn’t above fibbing to protect his legacy.

Here’s what I don’t get, and this is coming from a UF alumnus:
As little as I’d want to see them in the SEC from a selfish standpoint, from the conference’s standpoint, aren’t they more valuable than they get credit for? I get the whole “new territory/new tv market” thing to a point, but that’s overrated. The SEC Network is only part of the deal. CBS and ESPN are national networks, and FSU in the SEC makes SEC football more appealing. All those games against teams like Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn aren’t needle-movers, really?
Someone actually thinks Missouri is better for the SEC than FSU or Clemson just because they are in a place the SEC wasn’t before? That’s asinine.
