Dawg porn for the recruiting trail

Jeez, somebody get this guy on tape, fast:

Here’s what Bengals defensive backs coach Mark Carrier told reporters after Cincinnati took Shawn Williams in the third round: “One thing you like about this kid is he played in a NFL-style defense with Todd Grantham, the defensive coordinator down there at Georgia and he barked out a lot of signals, they give you a lot of different looks and obviously had a lot of guys in this draft and one I think I like and fits right in with our room is that he’s not afraid to stick his face in the fire. That’s a big deal for me and a big deal for our room. You come play for us, you better be ready to go hit somebody.”

They ought to hand that out to every defensive recruit they’re chasing.

I thought the 2012 WLOCP game really was won when FU went for it of 4th down by running wide left and Shawn Williams not only stopped the runner from making it but also KNOCKED THE RUNNER OUT OF THE GAME! Look for Shawn Williams to play a long time in the NFL and be an All-Pro.

That play is one of the greatest in the history of Georgia football history. I still get excited about it…it was a “statement” play and the attitude stood for the whole game.

This recruiting year is the first time we can claim individuals in a good D program that, hopefully, becomes great. We can thank Jarvis for a good bit of that since he stayed beyond his 3 yrs out of HS.

Grantham has now established what he came here for; a team with his brand to sell to the recruits. I look forward to the team improving more and hopefully, some day, becoming the D machine similar to what Bobo has given us on O. By getting the added emphasis from fellow NFLers, Grantham can (this year) become the D guru he pictures himself to be along with assembling a heart and guts D that will return old pride to the unit as a whole. I’m looking especially hard at D linemen of the future being ferocious such that we watch only that part of the game for big thrills..

Agree completely. Whether or not you think Grantham has earned his paycheck after last year, it’s great to see that the defense has a specific identity of being attacking and aggressive.

The entire time that CMR has been HC at UGA we always have had great Os with the exception being that the O-line hasn’t been strong enough to really push people around in short yardage situations because of bad S&C. The S&C issue has been fixed now so the O-line S&C is rapidly getting there, plus we’re building O-line depth. The O is going to be terrific next year. If the D could get to what you described above Ballsy there is no limit to what Georgia football can accomplish going forward. I’m stoked. It really is a terrific time to be a UGA alum/fan.

Do you get the feeling that many of us are holding back on our positive enthusiasm? Yep, if that dam breaks open near the end of Fall practice there will be hoards of Bulldog Puppies running around barking loudly and proudly until the day many of us die.

Cheez! Can’t we get a film crew into skeleton drills run by the players during the summer to furnish to us the fresh soul milk aching to flow from that tit? Just to watch the early signees become more proficient than they were in the Spring Game would be spirit-serving until fall kickoff. Or a sound track of Matthews hitting tackling dummies…..or ________(insert your favorite candy). This time last year we were watching Marshall race Mitchell.

Those are great comments. Hope UGA continues to build on that.

semi-related, seems like the knock on Bama players this draft was that they had been rode hard and put up wet during their time @ Bama.

He means Lacy played (and probably practiced) hurt all year and may have damaged his pro career because some of those injuries became chronic. That’s why he dropped in the draft. Others, too.

It looks like St Louis & Linebacker Coach Paul Ferraro must like the job that Coach Kirk Olivadotti is doing at UGA also..

. St. Louis drafted and/or signed as FA’s THREE UGA Inside Linebackers: Alec Ogletree, Christian Robinson and Mike Gilliard…

I could see Gilliard blossoming in the pros, at least as a reliable back-up that has a decent carrier being traded around from team to team. Robinson on the other hand . . .
