ACC coaches are in favor of having the coaches’ poll be a part of the criteria used by the selection committee to determine the four teams in the College Football Playoff.
I can’t think of any single step the BCS poobahs could take that would more effectively undermine the new playoffs than to let the Coaches Poll back in the door. And, yes, I say that recognizing that a few changes are being proposed.
Duke coach David Cutcliffe, serving as league coaches’ chair, told ESPN.com on Wednesday during the league’s spring meetings that his group also is in favor of having every single coach have a vote in the poll and complete transparency in the voting. They also favor doing away with a preseason poll and releasing their first poll at some point during the season — much in the way the BCS standings are released.
Whoop-dee-do. The conflicts of interest and bias will still be there. And giving every single coach a vote means there will be that many more coaches handing off the job to somebody else to complete.
It’s a bad idea. I just hope it’s a nonstarter, too.

I’d be angry if I didn’t already know that whoever they get to pick the teams is full of shit. You may argue about degrees of bias and degrees of stupidity but there will be dumbasses with agendas involved. I guarantee it.

If the Coaches Poll was administered like the Mumme Poll it would be ok in my opinion, but realistically if the coaches are doing their job they do not have time for this $hit.

The reason the ACC coaches want the Coaches Poll involved is they do NOT want the best 4 teams to be in the playoff. That would mean that no ACC team will be in the playoff. Better for them for the absolutely most subjective method be used for the 4 picks.

Several years ago there was a poll which consisted of former coaches from across the nation. Representing all geographic areas and conferences. Coach Vince Dooley was a member of this group as well as many names you would all recognize and respect.
This group would, in my opinion, be the way to decide the playoff teams. Their poll results were more consistent than any I have seen. Alas, due to the unbiased nature of the results, this poll is no longer active.

True, Mayor and true, Tom. Does anyone remember how absurdly the Big 10 coaches as a group voted against UGA? Especially Barry Alvarez (Richt kicked his ass twice in Cap One Bowl) and our favorite buddy, tOsu. UGA would have most votes back then placing us at 5-6th in the country while the Big 10 would have us at 11-12 including those two coaches (Tressel and Alvarez) as outliars at 18-20th place. They were thick as thieves with the PAC 10-12 and some of their coaches would wallop us also.
Prediction: No one will allow that much bias into future polls of any type. The SEC can ill afford that crap to happen again. You better bet they want that bias in the ACC, along with their buddies in the Big-PAC. Fuck’em.

Huevos,you figured out their plan. The PAC 12, Big 10, ACC and Big 12 coaches will all purposely block vote SEC teams lower than they really are in the Coaches Poll to knock at minimum the second SEC team (and maybe the highest SEC team, too) out of the playoff.

I know talking about Paterno is loaded, but for a second (from some espn article):
Paterno has not voted in the coaches’ poll since 2004, when he wanted to vote for undefeated Auburn but was forced to vote for Southern California after it won the BCS title game.
“They said, ‘Well, you’ve got to vote or else you can’t participate.’ So I will not participate in the voting,” Paterno said. “Not that I’m against what other people want to do, it’s just that philosophically I think you ought to win it on the field. If I have to vote for somebody only because people have said these are the two teams that ought to be in the BCS championship game and I think they left somebody out that probably ought to be in it, that’s when I’ll feel a playoff ought to be appropriate. I’ve always been for a playoff.”

The poll is so fair that if you don’t vote for who they want you to vote you can’t vote. Good poll.

There is no group LESS qualified to vote on relative strength of teams than the coaches in CFB. I don’t know any “elite” level fan who sees as few teams play as a HC would. It was always a joke, a laugher, why would anyone want to bring that back? It seems the people running college football aren’t as serious about it’s image as the dedicated fans.

Even if the
assistant SIDs’coaches’ poll did implement division-wide voting and full transparency, such “reforms” would be purely cosmetic without provisions for determining whether coaches were gaming the system and then somehow disciplining them for it. And we all know THAT’S not gonna happen in a million years.LikeLike
