Sure do like the tone of this paragraph in Chris Low’s review of Florida’s 2013 schedule:
Gut-check time: It’s the date that jumps out there for all Florida players, coaches and fans — Nov. 2. The annual showdown with Georgia in Jacksonville might as well be circled in blood this season. Georgia has won the past two in the series, and that’s after Florida dominated this rivalry for much of the past two decades. The Gators had won 18 of 21 prior to losing the past two. Florida also hasn’t played in the SEC championship game since 2009, and losing a third straight to Georgia would make getting back to Atlanta a long shot.
It wasn’t too long ago when all the angst was on the red and black side. If Georgia can pull off a third straight win in Jax, there will be some serious sphincter tightening going on in Gainesville.
Mark Richt may not have won a national title, but if he’s truly able to recast this series as a balanced rivalry, that’s a helluva legacy in my book.

You know, it’s funny. I’m reading your post, particularly the last part about “…recast(ing) this series as a balanced rivalry…” and I’m thinking to myself: “Hell, we’ve won 2 in a row, 3 of the last 6 and 4 of the last 9. That’s pretty damn balanced.” And then it dawns on me that if a third party (Low) guy is still referening the ever hand picked “18 of 21,” we’ve still got work to do on the national perception front with this series. Good point, Bluto.

By anyone’s definition of balanced rivalry, except those with intent to distort, UGA/UF meets the definition. Low is reaching to find a way to present it otherwise. Sadly, there are UGA fans who have fallen into this same mindset by letting the FU fans define the rivalry with selective parameters. UGA leads the overall, has won the most recent, and is even for the length of time most all of the current players have been paying attention. I cannot think of a time when fans of either side didn’t sweat the outcome of this game regardless of their bravado on message boards or call-in shows. Was Florida in the nineties dominant? Yes, and so? Most of our rivals were beating us regularly, but only FU is deliberately distorted by fans and media. Admittedly, that was a rough patch for UGA football for the most part, let’s move on….oh, my bad, the rest of us already have.

Mac, you done done it again! UGA fans have to sew their lacerated pride back to where it was long before the FU run. Those lizards are just another team and right now aren’t as good as the Dawgs. How long that goes without a return win on their part is the least of our considerations. These guys are good and can take the game to anyone. Also, the article a couple of weeks aggo,”100 things about FU”, were tongue in cheek to me. Some of the statements were meant for humor, especially when the author began talking about second stringers before he got to the 10th “thing”. LMAO during the entire article, but bet that some took those remarks asw gospel. Not on your life. The lizards are ready bto be had again this year. They are running out of their Coach’s “guarantees”.

CMR is 4-8 in the WLOCP. If he’s “truly able to recast this series as a balanced rivalry” he’s going to have to win 4 more games to do it whether it is by going 4-0, 5-1, 6-2, 7-3, etc. or more the rest of the way while he is HC. I, for one, think he can do that. That said, a good argument can be made that the rivalry is already back to parity (3-3 over the last 6 games) and if CMR can win at the level I described above the rest of his career that the Dawgs will have become dominate in the WLOCP once again. This is, after all, a series that has gone in streaks.

If Georgia wins this year, it would make the Dawgs 5-5 over the last decade of games played. That’s balanced enough in my book.

I am just glad that we seem to be at the point where we don’t automatically crap our pants at the mere mention of Jacksonville. The kids that are RSoph and Juniors have never lost to Florida and the RJR and Seniors have never lost in regulation. I like that trend

Have to keep up the physical play against Florida. These last 2 victories against them were some of the most hard hitting games I have seen. I hope the younger dawgs can bring that same type of fire in Jax.
