With the news of Bobby “Blue” Bland’s passing, I thought I’d share my favorite song of his, “I Pity The Fool”.
The man had some serious vocal chops. (And judging from the last time I saw him live, an ego to match.) Rest in peace, man.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
There are definite echoes of some Buddy Guy in there what the falsetto action. He’s A-OK despite my lean toward the traditional 4-piece bluesband arrangement. Sho ’nuff, the cat had the throat power. RIP, big fella.

I used to listen to Bobby Blue Bland on WLAC out of Nashville. I went to see Him and B B King and Jimmy Reed in Atlanta, in the sixties, had to sneak around my parents to swing that. Reed was drunk and could’nt perform so B B and Bobby did his set. Nobody in the crowd minded too much!
