A three-year guaranteed contract worth a million and a half? For a position coach? No way McGarity could have allowed that to be matched. And Garner would have been crazy to turn it down.

See….what I’d like is for UGA to be somewhere between where it is and where the Barn is when it comes to spending. Barn just throws tons of money into and at people and/or things trying to keep up…mostly irrationally. On the other hand, Georgia is like flip this house when it comes to spending on coaches and facilities. Throw a couple coats of paint on this turd facility, hire that unknown coach, on the cheap…hoping it’ll work out.
Now, I don’t want us to end up with massive debt like UT, not do I want to make moves of desperation like the Barn, but I believe the steady decline in UGA athletics is partly due to the do more with less mentality. Maybe we’re more proud of all that money the AD brings in. Maybe they think they get to take it with them when they die. Just seems like athletics have reaches a plateau doing it the way we have been.

We’ve finished inside the top 50 of the Director’s Cup twice over the last 6 years. 49th and 35th. That’s terrible! We’ve been one of the top 5 programs when it comes to making money, yet, we have mostly middle of the SEC facilities and results. Georgia could and should be so much better but most seem just fine with the way things are.

Suppose what the response will be from true supporters when the thriftiness genuinely causes a departure that is harmful to the program.
And, does anyone agree that the incestuous hiring for more than 30 years – hiring “one of us” rather than the best available – is in part responsible for reaching said plateau? Not convinced either way but it sure seems there are more “Georgia” people on staff in Athens than “fill in the blank” staff in most anywhere else.

Part of the half mil will keep a good recruiter alum (for them) on board for several years. Nothing wrong with that.
Say, did someone kick Hines Ward in the scrotum when he was here months ago? He should accidentally visit our campus and football facilities whenever we have recruits around. Only coaches can recruit, but an All Pro, SuperBowl MVP as a hangeron never hurt anything.

Then what about some of our top 100 NFL players working out during the summer during camps? Since UGA has the most players in the top 100 of any college, would think that may help swing a few recruit’s heads as well.

the Barners are so desperate to stem the domination they’ve been experiencing at the hands of Saban and Mark Richt that Gus Malzahn could be performing human sacrifice with 2 year olds at Toomers Corner at noon every day, and as long as he gives them some hope of beating Alabama or Georgia, they’ll all look the other way. Trying to cash whip good players is an AU tradition that predates Malzahn by decades; they surely aren’t going to complain about spending whatever it takes to get back in the W column. They’ll all bleat about what a fine leader, teacher of young men, and all around Christian he is….right up to the point where he gets housed by Alabama and UGA a couple of years in a row, in which case they’ll shriek in panic, demand that his losing ass be fired, and begin the process for the NEXT ultimate savior of AU football. Just like they did with Chin Gizik, actually.
Me, I can’t wait for Mrs. Malzahn’s next press conference, especially if AU struggles again this year.

Rumors are that Kristi has been in the Lee County Re-Education Camp (conveniently located in the stockade behind where the Vet School holds its Alpha Psi Rodeo) enjoying 24/7 subliminal messages from Hooker and Heat. Analysis of pupil-size in Twitter surveillance image may possibly indicate some type of med normally used to sedate small to medium-sized animals. All future pressers, if any, for Kristi will be tightly scripted with Jay Jacobs personally handling the cue cards
