Things change.

A year ago, I was fretting over the state of Georgia’s running game after Crowell’s dismissal.

… The reality is that Mark Richt now turns to a group composed of one tailback who quit the team for a few days last year (you think Carlton Thomas wishes he could have a mulligan?), two true freshmen (only one of whom enrolled early) and this year’s early leader for the Kiante Tripp Award (not to mention that a good part of the fan base never wants to see him take another snap at tailback).

Put it another way, Dawg fans – your leading returning rusher now is Brandon Harton.  Combine that with an offensive line that’s not exactly expected to be a rock when things get underway and it should be hard to escape that nervous feeling.

Now?  ESPN’s Chris Low, on ranking Georgia with two of the top three backs in the conference:

It’s almost unfair that Georgia would have both Gurley and Marshall on the same roster.

If only the Dawgs could be in the same place with the secondary this season.

Talk on the radio on the drive in was that Chubb is about to get bumped to 5 starts after the Nike camp and Sony is the talk of south florida. UGA could have a read stable of horses next season…not that the cupboard is bare now.

That article points one one crazy fact, Marshall had 9 TDs….4 were of 50+ yards. That is crazy

As Dawg fans I don’t think we’re comfortable without worry.

Of course ESPN did rank our RBs at 1 & 3, but ranked Murray as the 3rd best QB in the SEC.

I thought that was a fair position in a year of unusually amazing QB talent. I think the SC backup has a bigger gripe.

I thought that referred to most valuable player and that’s why SC QB was second. That is different from ranking according to ability.

I think we’re talking about two different articles. this one rank the 10 best quarterbacks in the SEC and Dylan what’s his face, the backup at SC was number 10 and from what he did last season I think he be starting for most teams in the league

Maybe at the end of the year we can, I really think Shaq wiggins and Brendan Langley both have premier talent to contribute good snaps in the defensive backfield. I certainly hope they’re ready by the 31st.

Numbers-wise the secondary isn’t in such bad shape. Swann, Dawson, Bowman, Moore, JHC, and Norman return. Throw in the JUCOs, early enrollees, and the summer enrollees, and we’ve got plenty of candidates. Just gotta get that talent to bubble to the surface.

I thought Marshall had a really good year for a freshman. Very similar to Isaiah except not a prima Donna and a hell of a lot more speed and big play ability. If you’d have told me before the season how good gurley would end up being I would’ve called you optimistic to the point of delusion. freshman are just rarely that good. So considering our running game was so good precisely because two freshman obliterated some pretty high preseason expectations, I’d say any reasonable fan probably would’ve been concerned about our running game headed into the 2012 season.

Unless TG or KM go down and AJ/JJ/BD are downright dreadful, Michel and Chubb RS, right? How do you take snaps away from TG/KM in their (almost certainly) last season between the hedges?

You don’t. Michel and Chub spend one year learning and 2 or 3 years playing hard. Save the licks for the NFL.

At least one of them will play next season.

You can NEVER have too many good RBs.

You forget next year we will be breaking in a new QB….I am sure that QB will not bitch about having 4 5 star RBs ready to go ever game.

Chris Low thinks Gurley and Marshall constitute an “almost unfair” backfield? Wonder what anyone will think if Chubb goes to 5 stars and Michel remains as such and they all are on the same team ready to play? Alright, there’s your elephant in the room that no one wants to place in the same sentence.

Jehoshaphat! Bobo’s Offensive Machine keeps getting larger as well as new cogs.
