South Carolina was recruiting me hard until last year when I guess they thought they had their quarterback. Neither one of them threw an offer at me, but it didn’t really bother me. I mean, I feel like Georgia is a way better school than South Carolina or Clemson would be any day, so I’m not really worried about that.”

I’d say he’s a good guy for watching out for the kid’s best interests. He probably knew that he’d be able to reel the kid in if the staff managed to survive.

It’s a rare instance where both can be true. If the kid had committed to Auburn, he still could have tried to poach him at his next job. Either way, he did the kid a favor.

He didn’t say not to sign with Auburn, he simply said wait to sign with Auburn. Whether it was motivated by his own self intrest or not, he still did the kid a favor.

I think this is a bigger question….Why would the kid even consider Auburn at that time? Maybe the distance from South Carolina confused him but man, Auburn was a mess last October.

I was thinking the very same thing, as an up and coming QB what would be attractive about that Auburn staff’s ability to develop a pro-style QB? Must have been the glitter from the 2010 quarterback, who was a pro the entire time he was at AU since the family had been paid. I see no similarity in Park and Cammy, and AU isn’t exactly convenient to the Charleston area.
Don’t get me wrong, this is my favorite UGA QB recruit in years based on what I have read and seen of him but man, those HS juniors need someone helping them through the process. Sounds like his coach is very involved now, I wonder if he was at that time last fall? Unless there were AU ties in the family, he could have not made a much worse decision than the one he almost made (I don’t count GT as a real option.) Going to be very interesting on how the Ramsey/Park battle goes the next few years. We are blessed with QB and RB talent at UGA, now we just need to fill in some OL and defensive gaps.

Are you kidding me? Cecil Newton is a Christian pastor. The guy broke NCAA rules by trying to solicit money in exchange for a recruiting commitment but that doesn’t make him a pagan. That’s out of bounds, crass, and lacking in class. I don’t like Cam Newton or Auburn but that’s just not right.

Joy, I was raised a Christian and understand how it is an integral part of many people’s every thought but comments that are solely based on religion should be on a different forum, imo. Certainly there are many times where we all get dragged into, or feel it necessary to get away from football for a few posts to defend something that means a lot to us and we feel it necessary to correct the record. In this case, my post had nothing to do with religion but your response yanked it in that direction. Politics and religion are flashpoints in any conversation these days and we will never avoid them totally but I really feel there are better places for these topics than the good Senator’s blog. That said, I am grateful for whatever guidance moved Mr. Park to Athens.

Anyone heard from AHD lately? Haven’t seen much from him since he had an argument about another site’s “philosophy” and was asked to take the argument elsewhere. I’m sure he understood that only meant for that subject and the blog’s owner he was arguing with. At least, that’s the way I viewed it.

OK, I know he didn’t have a UGA offer but what is the hurry to commit as a Junior? I understand if you feel you have to make that call or lose your chance but if he had an offer to an SEC school as a Junior, he certainly had to know he was capable of having other offers coming his way. Committing before you are truly committed leads to a lot of disappointed people when you change your mind later. I am all for letting them sign when they commit, at least for the first 50%+ of the class, and then holding them to it. The “switch” game is one I hate the most so let’s makie a commitment mean commit. And yes, I think coaches/schools should honor their contracts as well, at least the HC. If you want Charlie Weiss for a 10 year contract, you got him. Breaking contracts/promises is a bad thing, imo, just not brought up that way and I ain’t changing personally, or in my expectations. Man’s word oughta stand for something.

Good post. Can’t say I didn’t consider the length of time from the cup-to-the lips for these recruits to sign up while we consider that their commitment is carved in stone. However, it appears that Jacob’s words are being etched a little deeper than the blogosphere what with his quotes about several schools. His statements are ingratiating him to us faster than than we can chisel in our minds. While we should be careful about assuming either way, he was keen on representing the Dawgs at the Elit 11 competrition.
