I wonder if that would mean PAWWWLLL! would have to take a pay cut.

OK, I’ve seen the lot of you throw around “WWL” since I got here a while back, but it’s not in the lexicon and I’ve never bothered to ask. What does it stand for?

isnt that something they kind of took over from ABC’s intro to Wide World of Sports with Jim McKay? ABC Sports, back when it was the network of the Olympics, used to describe itself under Roone Arledge, as “the worldwide leader in sports.” Which, in fact, I think it is safe to say they were in the 70s and 80s. Once Cap Cities took over ABC and ESPN, and kind of farmed out the sports department to ESPN from ABC (for the most part), ESPN suits must have felt like the inheritors of the mantle, so to speak, and started using the tagline.
At least, that’s how I remember it. Plus, I guess they all feel like it ain’t braggin’ if you can do it.

i would LOVE for the un-bundling to happen. i so hate charter cable, my corporate cable overlord. if i could buy channels a la carte, and screw espn at the same time, all the better.

I think you would still have to buy your a la carte through Charter or whoever owns the wire in the ground. I blame Al Gore.

Why? Satellite options are comparable, or better, no wire is required. I would like the bundle options, particularly if I could buy ESPN monthly. I only need them for college football season and Masters week, never tune them in for anything but CFB and the few events they are involved in (like today.)

Yep, without cfb, espn is just a bunch of talking heads, poker tourneys, and soccer games. Really a pathetic waste of broadcast signal space once the football games end.

I’m all for bundling cable.. but having to pay $30 so i could watch sports is not something I’d be looking forward to. Is everyone here just saying they wouldn’t buy and miss UGA games?

I cut the cable cord 2 years ago. I watch the CBS games over the air with an antennae. Picture is great, but I miss the DVR. ESPN games I stream over the internet and the picture quality varies or I show up at my sister’s house with a 12 pack, my 2 kids, and a seven layer dip from publix. My brother inlaw is a Tech grad so it’s a win win.

$30/month for ESPN isn’t too rough considering it’s the only thing that would actually make me pay the hefty cable fees anyway. ESPN, Netflix, and over the air HD news channels would run less than $40/month.
