In case you need a little mid-July juice, the AB-H has a nice video rewind of last season’s highlights for you here. There’s a lot of great stuff there, but check out Murray’s mechanics at the 2:47 mark in the first clip – they’re beautiful. That’s how things go when you’ve got time and a great pocket to throw from.
Also, that comparison of his play fake against Ole Miss and Greene’s against Vandy is a fun one. Aaron does a fine job, but nobody sells that play like Greene could.

Agree Senator, AM is pretty decent with that play but I don’t think the play can ever be run as well as David did it. He totally sold his back out with no hint of fear, or what he was up to. Of course, Clowney wasn’t playing in those days.

Is it possible that we have become so spoiled with good QB play since 2001 that we actually have difficulty recognizing good QB play anymore?

If not spoiled, we should be. Except for 2006 we have been blessed with very capable qb play. And the next 5 or 6 years look solid. At both qb and rb, I don’t know another team I would trade with considering current talent, and verbal commits. When you add the staff we have to coach that talent, our offenseive production only needs some big uglies to get on board….and that seems to be trending up.

Enjoyed the clips. Didn’t realize that was Todd’s first touch.
Nobody did that fake better than Greene, but Murray’s is still fun to watch.
I could watch that clip of Jarvis stripping the ball another hundred times, and the shot of those Gator fans in the stands is priceless. Warmed my heart.

It wasn’t Gurley’s first touch. His first touch came on the first drive. He scored his first TD on his 3rd(?) carry. The ABH made a mistake there. It was on his first kick return.

Greene had the benefit of being the first to run the play at UGA. Richt had run it at FSU (I remember Chris Weinke running it in his own endzone against Clemson for a 90+ yd TD), but that Vandy game was the 1st time he ran it in Athens I believe. It took JP Sports about 2 minutes to find a replay that kept Greene in the shot. On Murray’s play, however, Brown was so alone it was comical.

Agree. It was so wonderful in so many ways, topped off with the stunned GatorOswald peering from the stands in disappointment and dejection. Man, I love that clip.

Minor quibbles, but the composite video needs to include Gurley’s stiff-arm TD against Vandy, Samuel’s tackle on the fake punt against Mizzou, and the Conley TD against Nebraska. While we’re at it, Marshall’s TD catch against Nebraska deserves a spot, too. Now I realize I’m asking for a longer video.
On a different note, some enterprising commenter needs to come up with a catalog of times we’ve run that hidden ball play during the Richt era. Extra appreciation if you can give us a success ratio on it. I’m guessing 80%+ off the top of my head.
