Sympathy for the devil

I’m not wishing for this to happen, because except for one game a season I enjoy watching someone as talented as Clowney play, but I gotta say as a fan of a program that saw its superstar take a four-game hit from the NCAA over the sale of a game jersey that if this story has legs, I won’t shed any tears if there’s a suspension.

Oh, and if that happens and Mark Richt wants to take a shot at Spurrier with a snarky comment about the satisfaction of playing South Carolina early in the season, I’ll be okay with that, too.

Could be a great opportunity for the Redcoats and stadium DJ to step up big. Can I get a ?

You KNOW nothing is going to come of this, there could be a picture of Jay Z handing Clowney a stack of $100 bills and they would find someway to explain it. If he is suspended this year it will be for Wofford, Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky or his suspension will “miraculously” be lifted before the trip to Athens. Rules only apply if you are UGA.

If a picture surfaced of Jay-Z handing Gurley a stack of hundreds, McGarity would record video of himself dropping Gurley off on the LSU/Arkansas/Auburn campus and send the video to Emmert with a note saying “hopefully this and forfeiting 15 scholarships a year for 4 years will be enough”.

Then 8 years later he would try and get whoever the SEC commissioner is at the time to get the other ADs and Presidents to institute the same level of punishment across the conference for similar infractions.

Actually, McGarity has bigger balls than that. Remember, he came from Florida. All the weak-kneed stuff happen on Evans’ watch.

Suspension? If that one sticks, he’s permanently ineligible. Spurrier has mellowed over the years, but can you imagine the squealing if that happens.

HBC’s squeals would shatter records previously set in Audibility of High Frequency Energy in Speech and Voice testing.

It would be ironic if he was suspended. Of course then USC would claim they were robbed again.

Yes, I’d actually prefer to beat them with a full squad so there can be no excuses.

Especially after Clowney’s comments at SEC media days, it may be good for Mr. Murray to face him down and beat him.

Is it just me or is “He’s done a good job of knowing that” and “he’s done a good job of doing that” two different things.

So he knows the rules, he just doesn’t keep them. South Carolina’s dirty, man. Always have been.

  6. Not sure there is anything to this. Gonna be impossible to prove he made an oral agreement.

    • I suspect that if anything does come of it, it’ll be through a rival agent.

      • Oooohh. That would be fantastic. And as for the proud folks who want to beat SoCar at full strength: good for you. That’s great. But if I had the choice, Clowney is riding the bench in a track suit while SoCar players have to talk about how bad it is without him.

Uhh…rival agents don’t squeal because of the attention it brings on their own business. Well, unless they are facing jail time.

Contact isn’t illegal. Neither is expressing an intention to sign with an agent. This story has legs because of the names ‘Clowney’ and ‘Jay-Z’…and all of the clicks that will generate.

          • JayZ has the ability to take a lot of business away from guys. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if a fellow agent is willing to do whatever they can to damage his start in the business.

You know if anything comes of this, and it won’t, Richt will be a perfect gentleman. Just like he always is. And that’s even more awesome than being snarky could ever be.

You are right of course. I did enjoy CMR’s reference to the 2013 schedule and SOS not complaining. And if we meet the oSU for a Natty he would not let anyone call for a time out x3. No he would not but I would enjoy that too. ” … is that wrong?” 😉

if the extent of their contact is phone conversations, I can’t imagine much comes of this. that said, it is not at all unreasonable to think he might have taken a trip that was paid for by jay-z. No whether he can simply pay Jay z back and miss a game a half or a series (which given our luck it will be a game) like marcel darius and move on…who knows

I can tell you this. I normally like to beat teams straight up, but I am fine with clowney not playing against us. get the win and move on.

Whatever fire there is to this smoke, it would take the NCAA longer than the start of football season to get to it conclusively. So any action from Indy is going to come in the form of a suggestion that SC sit Clowney pending the outcome of the investigation. You know, like we did with AJ Green and like Auburn didn’t do with Cam Newton.

If I’m SC, I know which precedent I’d follow.

I tend to agree about the timetable. Probably the best we can hope for is that it’ll be a distraction to SC.

We should start a pool on this blog for the precise date and hour that he will be declared ineligible. Put me down for 8:00 PM on September 7, 2013.

No. With all the commercials ESPN has to run to pay the bills these days the game might not be over by 8:00. I’m thinking 9:00.

Nothing related to the original “Miami Party” investigation was ever found on AJ. But when the NCAA started looking, they found a deposit in his account and he answered the question incorrectly. It’s still pretty unlikely anything comes of this, but I’d be generally nervous as a Gamecock fan if the NCAA is poking around.

Don’t worry. As long as it is “USC Looking into….” and no one else, nothing compromising Clowney’s eligibility will ever be found. USC compliance serves one mission at this point–destroy the evidence.

Nothing to see here. Move along, please.

This is where the Agent that said the college compliance offices should be independent of the school to be effective hit the nail on the head. UGA’s is the only one I know who thinks they should report us for every possible violation. The rest of the SEC has Non-compliance offices whose job it is to write Never Mind letters to the SEC and the NCAA.

Clowney should follow Mrs. Jay-Z’s advice and let her hubby know “If you want it you better put a ring on it”

    Oh oh oh indeed.

If that is all there was to it then why, pray tell, is an internal investigation even necessary?

      • Due diligence. Your staff does the same on a regular basis. You just don’t hear about these kinds of stories unless names like “Clowney” and “Jay-Z” are involved.

If I’m wrong, I’ll come back and eat crow, but there’s nothing to this story other than the media’s fascination with Clowney somehow not playing CFB in 2013.
