A better man than I

Weiszer reports that Mark Richt sat down on radio row with Chuck Oliver at SEC Media Days. Per Weiszer, “(t)he interview was cordial.”

Give Richt credit for being far more generous with his time and spirit than a guy who’s had no problem questioning Richt’s character deserves.

That buffoon still has his radio job? I honestly haven’t missed him one bit.

I haven’t dialed in that station since the Goff days. I thought they went way over the top with Dooley and Barb during his coaching tenure. Most of that crew got canned for being over the top again.

      • Which crew got canned? I know the morning crew at 790 got canned for a tasteless skit, but I don’t know about anyone over at 680.

Haven’t listened to Buck & Kincade in 8 years (horrible talk radio) and stopped listening to that Auburn tool Chuck Oliver since the incident described here. My guilty pleasure is NPR in the Morning and Mike Bell and Dave Archer for the drive home (I can leave John Michaels). I actually like Cowheard too, but only when he is not talking NBA or baseball.

Yet the “King” recently defended his beloved Auburn to the death on Twitter. Check out late June after Oregon’s “Penalty” (forgive the long C & P)
    He’s an 100% Auburn shill and a$$clown.

@ToddPoucher No. The NCAA said they were.

@tyoung594 I’m guessing you heard that somewhere and have repeated it without question. Don’t be a follower.

@kingcfb Lost in all this was the fact #Auburn ceased recruitment of Seastrunk due to recruiting “issues”. Was a HEAVY AU lean. #irony

And then everyone of those players and coaches and teams went on probation . . . and never Auburn. That’s the truth, no escaping it.

Got as silly as SEC Athlete of the Year being handed to a UT tennis player instead of Cam Newton, because Newton was dirty . . . right?

Many folks were wanting Oregon to win the NC game because the Tigers were a bunch of cheaters. Then Oregon went on probation, not Auburn.

@c_trudeau Seriously, one person who attached his name to even an accusation re: Auburn. NCAA set up camp in Auburn, scoured year-and-a-half

@c_trudeau And Auburn paid for him? Give me one person remotely connected in any way to the situation who even accused Auburn of paying.

    • I admire his passionate defense of his alma mater. Like you wouldn’t do the same for UGA. That’s what is great about SEC fans.

Kind of off-topic, but Holly Anderson’s got a good write-up on Richt at Grantland: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9499888/can-mark-richt-help-georgia-rebound.

Oliver and Richt patched things up on the phone days after the SECCG. True to form, Richt was the one that reached out and Oliver expressed great admiration on the air that afternoon for the way Richt handled the entire episode.

As I understand, CMR said something like “I overreacted to that incredibly stupid and ill-timed question you asked, and I’d like to apologize for not cutting you off before you got a word out of your sorry-ass mouth.”

    Auburn shill.

Is anyone shocked Mark Richt took the high road? Seems par for the course with him.

Just another example of how classy Coach Richt is. It’s a great example of humility also for an offended party to reach out to the offender and try to patch things up. It certainly makes Oliver look like even more of a jerk for not reaching out first. All this does make me wonder though, is it really possible for someone to be as nice and classy as Mark Richt. I mean, is he real?

  9. Lay off Chuck Oliver. He is the King. He is sorry for what happened and Richt forgave him. BTW, he has the highest rated radio show in Atlanta by a huge margin. I think Chuck is hilarious and very smart. His Auburn stories crack me up.
