I must say I thoroughly enjoy this possible future:
Worst-case scenario: Florida’s lack of offensive punch finally catches up to it this fall. The Gators escape in the opener against the Toledo Rockets, a tougher-than-their-name-suggests foe from the MAC. Things don’t work out nearly as well in ensuing weeks, as Florida falls to in-state rival Miami and serve as the first signature win of Butch Jones’ tenure at Tennessee in Game 3. The Gators get their record back over .500 (3-2) following victories over Kentucky and Arkansas, but spend the last seven games of the regular season alternating losses (LSU, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida State) and wins (Missouri, Vanderbilt and Georgia Southern). A 6-6 record earns a bowl berth, but the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La., is far from Florida’s idea of a “dream destination” for the postseason. And the Gators’ play bears that out, as they lose to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and their triple-option offense 41-10. People start to question whether Muschamp’s physical, grinding style is fit for a Florida program that was built on the foundation of high-flying offensive attacks. It doesn’t help matters that Meyer makes it to the national title game in his second season at Ohio State, either. The Gators’ sign an underwhelming recruiting class for 2014. And Florida fans have to live through an offseason of taunts from its two most hated rivals in Georgia (which won the national title for the first time since 1980) and Florida State (which won the Orange Bowl for the second straight year).
Damn, I’d pay good money to watch that happen.
Good money? I would sever a few digits.

No need to go that far, man! It’s gonna happen, doncha know? It’s our year. Chinese calendar has this as “Year of the Dawg.”

How much of that rant fits into your assessment of FU this year? Surprisingly, over 50% in my case. I must really be down on their lizard ass.

Florida isn’t going to finish anywhere near 6-6 this year. So not much.

50% would put them 9-3 in my book. Their D may be good against a lot of running teams, but their asses are goin’ to see mucho passes. Hope they play Purifoy both ways and Mitchell again splits his juked face-masking ass.

UF’s pass defense is going to be good.
If the Gators slide, it’ll be because their turnover margin and special teams play decline from last season. That offense will need all the help it can get.

Most likely 2013 FU regular season record: 8-4 with losses to Georgia, LSU, South Carolina and FSU. Things could get worse if they don’t get past Miami, Missouri and/or Vandy. I absolutely do NOT see the Gators losing to UT. The bowl game potential loss is just speculation as it obviously depends on what team the Gators play. I CAN see a 6-6 regular season mark for FU is things go bad, though.

As long as the guy was scripting, couldn’t he make them lose the bowl game to someone other than Tech? That was kinda like Wynona Judd coming in at the end of a Kate Upton dream.

Kinda nitpicking there… if Georgia were to beat Corch to win a national title, I think even the most rabid partisan Dawg fan would forgive Tech a win in Shreveport. 😉

Heck, I’ll go further than that. I am a rabid, partisan Dawg fan and I’d pay to see Georgia Tech beat Florida 42-10. That would be awesome. Florida is a MUCH bigger rival than Tech in my mind. Tech is just pathetic. That’s precisely why it would be so much fun to watch Tech dismantle the gators.

Tech, under the Genius doesn’t win bowl games. Of course they beat Kiffin’s team of spoiled brats, but teams with a month to prepare for his high school offense typically shut them down. There is no way FU would allow 42 points in that game.

The way I see it, if Muschamp parts ways with Florida, the program is a mess and Florida will end up on a merry-go-round of replacement coaches who just don’t have time to right the ship even if they’re decent coaches. If Tech gets rid of Paul Johnson, at the very least they’ll instantly get a better recruiter and they’ll probably end up with a better head coach out of the deal. So if Georgia Tech plays Florida, I’m hoping Tech wins unless them both losing is somehow an option.

I think it would be hilarious if Tech beat the Gators. It’s not just watching the Gator fans cry. No, the best part would be when the Tech players received their rings to commemorate the victory.

It would be great seeing the bugs beat the gayturds on one hand and Paul Johnson keep his job for another ten years and watch tech struggle against everybody including the Middle Tennessee states of the world however on the other hand can you imagine just how instantly arrogant those nerds would get? It would almost be like they won a championship or a game against us.

Ordinarily I’d agree with you — I considered myself the kind of person who’d have to think long and hard about whom to root for even if Tech were playing the Al-Qaeda All-Stars. But I gotta admit, seeing them embarrass Lane Kiffin’s clearly disinterested gang of glamour boys in the Sun Bowl last season was pretty funny. I think I could muster a similar degree of schadenfreude for the Gators.

Honestly, I enjoyed the hell out of Tech beating Kiffin and the Trojans.

I know a lot of dawg fans don’t feel this way but last year’s scenario with the gators suits me just fine: gators beat everyone on their schedule except Georgia in Jacksonville which gives UGA the eastern division. Sure would help ease the sting of a few of the games in the aughts where the shoe was on the other foot like 02 & 05.

Can’t say as I would like them representin’ for the Sugar Bowl like last year. Hell, even Saban thought that was unfair. How does the team that lost it’s div able to leapfrog the Div Champ because the Champs lost the SECCG to the NC?

An interesting read. I went through and read the rest of the analyses. Clearly an auburn person wrote it, as every team’s best case scenario includes beating the dawgs, including Vanderbilt.

I’ve got a left nut I’d be willing to trade in for that whole block of text to play out. Florida sucks? Check. Tech sucks but beats Florida, thus keeping CPJ around? Check. UGA wins a national title? Check. UGA does so while stepping on the neck of Urban Meyer and tOSU? Well, this really was worth the wait, wasn’t it?

We jumped East Division winner Tenn in ’07 to play Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. We SHOULD have played USC in the Rose at least or tOSU in the BCS Game at best. Remember LSU lost twice that year and still played in the BCS game after winning the SECCG.

Thought the tie with Tenn was settled. Certainly do agree that we should have played USC because we both were the best teams in football at the end of that schedule year.
